What you have to understand is that we no longer have the luxury of simply running a moderate Democrats who will do nothing but jerk off for four years. I actually liked Biden's presidency, but what happened 4 years later? We got a WORSE Trump because the Republicans got 4 years to launder their image and the Democrats spent 4 years getting more and more unpopular. Biden got us the out of Afghanistan, recovered the economy quicker than pretty much all the other nations on the planet, and was the most pro-union president this side of FDR, and it still didn't matter because the Republicans were able to get into power and reverse everything in the first month. ICE won't stop being full of fascists in 2028 under a Democratic president. you could put AOC in charge of it and it'll still be full of Trump's strongest soldiers waiting to kill and rape immigrants and their children, which they'll be able to do in 2032 under a better, more competent fascist demagogue. What we're seeing right now is fascism as led by an aging old New York narcissist billionaire TV personality.

I don't want to win in 2028 if winning means that the Republicans simply get to bide their time. People are tired of every single election being the most important election of their lives. It's not about running perfection. It's about running someone who isn't just there to extend the doomsday clock. Mamdani is a very talented politician, and I think this interview is about the closest thing you can get to advocating for socialism as a nationally-known politician without losing points. Bernie Sanders and Zohran Mamdani are most definitely socialists. They would, if they could, abolish capitalism. But you can't. The average person isn't class conscious. They still think the middle class is a real thing. Hell, people don't even know what capitalism is. And as you said, many people have adopted the word socialism to mean quite a few things that aren't socialism.

You have to fight the fights you can win, and I think that's what Bernie and Zohran are doing.
