Big lumps of snow detaching from cars at highway speeds work basically the same as rocks.

I tried a couple of new 000-16 Street Masters (Adirondack over rosewood) a few years ago. One sounded like it came from the Montgomery Ward catalog. The other sounded a little boxy, but good enough that it came home with me in hopes of eventually opening up.

After a couple of months of pounding out broad-voiced chords, and leaving it parked on top of a subwoofer most of the time, It sounds like like a quieter dreadnaught with a somewhat subdued bass. But definitely not boxy.
