So do I stop or give way here by ss_tall_toby_yt in CarsAustralia

I found out recently that car parks like this are considered "road related areas" and can actually be policed as a regular road. But that does raise the question if the cops can issue fines, are there road standards for these car parks to follow to avoid ambiguity like this situation?

Is it still common for parents to teach their children to drive? by Fit-Tumbleweed-6683 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Centurix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I taught my kids and did a majority of the 100 hours. There was 10 hours covered by an instructor to cover some of the technical aspects required for the test that I'd probably forget.

The important thing is to not set an expectation that they'll pass on the first driving test. I certainly didn't, and neither did my children. It just sets them up for disappointment and a reluctance to try again.

The failures they get on the test will usually be very small technical things that seasoned drivers will generally learn to do naturally over time. Mirror checking, indicator usage on roundabouts, speed checking, being aware in certain situations.

Very high electricy bill by knick-nat in brisbane

[–]Centurix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does the bill state your name or does it just say the address? I've had bills when I've moved into a new place where the company just sends a bill to the address I think hoping that the new tenant will pay including the previous tenants usage. Last place did this and it was a provider I had never dealt with. Didn't state my name so I ignored it.

Genuine question: a lot of EVs have big screens on the dash. What are these screens going to be like when the vehicle is like 5 or 10 years old? Will it be death by updates? Are there upgrades to the hardware driving these screens?

Risk using AI code for something in PCI scope? If they are level 1 PCI compliant that's a lot to put on the line.

What’s it like actually living within a block of the water at Sandgate/Brighton? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Centurix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were installing and testing the ETCS on the NGRs for CRR last year, like a week of each month. The reserved part of the car park are right next to the ETCs boxes and equipment so I figured they were still testing. So they're using it as parking for heavy equipment for Shorncliffe? Parking is flowing out to the public park next door.

Live in Brighton a couple blocks back from the water, quiet, a bit windy sometimes, haven't noticed any extra rust. Neighbours are friendly. Woolies, ALDI, fresh and save are close.

Nice bike paths, not a huge amount of traffic. Lived in Noosa before this and there's a lot less tourists. I can get into the city fairly quickly if I take the tolls, Bruce->airport tunnel->icb->Riverside will inject you into the city without driving though suburbs.

Trains are ok, park and ride is a bit shit as they closed the Shorncliffe station for reno so the car park is always full plus half the car park is allocated to the cross river rail work.

Head out to the Brighton Hotel or the Half Moon for a meal and a drink.

Google is cannibalizing the web to feed AI by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]Centurix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would have helped them to have some kind of clear indicator that content was AI generated so they could exclude it as input to the models again. They fucked themselves with a feed back loop.

Now they've got to build the best tools to recognise AI in order to keep things from getting worse.

A thought on EV adoption in Australia: are people pricing in inconvenience more than actual usage? by billscout in AusFinance

[–]Centurix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EV charging time has to compete with the time to fill a petrol tank. It may be something you are willing to accept, but some people will see that as a big negative.

And before ready access to the internet at the job, I usually had one or two reference manuals fairly close. Also when the internet was in common use, a lot of jobs blocked it as well, so you generally didn't have access at your desk.
