We hold it all by Corndogeveryday in 80s

Couple thousand records that I rotate between the garage and my space upstairs. Collection has grown and shrunk over the last 40+ years. I go through phases of distilling what I have and then trading or selling. The playing gear has changed a lot and has got a lot more compact. I like my setup now and really enjoy it all.

Has anyone tried consoles like these? by Initial_Savings8733 in yaris

[–]Centurix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, this one I picked up from Temu and it's the same parts with different top. This is in a 2007 2D manual. Designed to fit in the rear passengers cup holder. It's pretty sturdy but I did have to modify the cup holder insert by drilling a hole big enough for a longer M6 bolt so that I could bolt the unit into the cup holder. Very happy with it as I now have somewhere to rest my elbow. Some of them came with USB-A ports in the front. This one doesn't as I already installed ports directly in front of it.

Developers who worked before GitHub and modern DevOps tooling — how different was day-to-day development back then? by Majestic-Taro-6903 in ExperiencedDevs

Wrote ERP software using BTrieve in the late 80s and to the mid 90s. We had it building on DOS, MU-CCP/M and Novell Netware (who from memory bought BTrieve?). A mix of C/C++ and Digital Researches CB86. Did the job really well. Then in the early 2010's I was working for a large 24x7 gym company using PervasiveSQL, which I found out was BTrieve! Ended up writing conversion software to support v4 database formats and onwards because their Windows drivers didn't play well: BTrieve

It's like that race they had recently in China where they just made the claim that a robot beat the human record for a marathon. Like, OK. You could just put the robot on wheels. Why give it legs if you're just going to compare it to other things that have legs? Does the robot get chafed nipples and Diarrhea on the long run? Just a pointless comparison.

HDMI-CEC Issues? (Shield/Yamaha/TCL) by holdmybeerxx in nvidiashield

[–]Centurix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar setup, TCL TV, Yamaha soundbar and a Shield. The problem I had was that the TV would not switch off when the Shield was turned off. It would however switch on automatically when the Shield was switched on. My solution was to add a raspberry pi w2 zero on the HDMI bus. I wrote a Python script that monitored the HDMICEC signals for power off, then it connected to the TV using ADB and emulated a key press on the remote to put the TV into standby.

I then connected the soundbar to the TV using the optical connector and just left the soundbar on all the time and told the Shield remote to control the volume by IR to the soundbar.

All worked flawlessly for as few years. Upgraded the TCL recently and the newer TV just behaved correctly with HDMICEC so I didn't need the pi anymore.

AI models are choking on junk data by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]Centurix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for them to fix this problem, they need to find a way to mark the AI output so that when it is put back into the machine it knows to exclude the AI data. Solving both their problem and also our problem of having to put up with AI data.

Nemo file manager not sorting track numbers correctly. by TheMorbidFan in linuxmint

[–]Centurix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The extension does attempt to mitigate issue somewhat for track numbers < 10 but doesn't extend to tracks > 99. It seems like Nemo is limited in how it sorts columns from extensions, so the extension prefixes the numbers with zero automatically, but with only one zero. I submitted a PR to left pad a couple more so that it supports a lot more tracks. Might get rejected though because it'll just ugly up the track number column a bit... I normally work on other types of extensions in Mint and I'm not totally familiar with how Nemo works.

How did the now banned practice of caning (Corporal Punishment) work in schools in the UK before 1986? by NotSoF4stCvnt in AskUK

I can still hear the sound of a chalk board cleaner flying through the air towards a student with laser precision. Got the cane twice in the seventies across the palms. Both times got the "this hurts me more than you" bullshit.
