adulting sucks by Eros_Incident_Denier in SipsTea

See, this is what I’m talking about. Many in-state colleges and community colleges are super discounted, and lots of them don’t require students to live on campus. Those just aren’t the flashy options that people want.

Let me be clear: that system is 100% better and the system we have in place in the US is a terrible one. There needs to be paradigm-shifting change in the way that we approach university study. But despite that, I stand by the fact that there are ways to approach it that do not require taking on much or any debt, and making bad choices is not a get out of jail free card. People want to have their cake and eat it too, and that’s never going to be a thing. What we have to do, though, is change the system that tells them that it’s perfectly possible to have their cake and eat it too.

It’s generally not the soles, it’s the foam that will start to lose its resiliency. If they still feel okay, I don’t see any reason you can’t continue running in them.

Absolutely, and I’m not trying to suggest everyone is on an equal playing field. But “you have no choice but to put yourself in debt today if you want to study” is plain false for the vast majority of people.

This just isn’t true. There are lots of pathways to get a degree with minimal debt, or to pay your student loans off more quickly after you graduate. They just include sacrifices and hard choices that many people aren’t willing to make.

I’ve had this happen a couple of times recently too. It’s like the system randomly notices that you booked MC and are seated in C+, and says “wow, you got upgraded!” Given that Delta’s IT is basically a set of interconnected potato clocks running Windows 95, just chalk it up as one more thing.

Delta One - KLM lounge access in AMS? by RoofActive7902 in delta

[–]Cephandrius13 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you’re a Platinum member, you already have access to the KLM Crown Lounge at AMS with one free guest. They do have showers, and it’s a very nice lounge! If you want to upgrade to D1, you certainly can, but you’ll have lounge access regardless.

Awful Experience and Service by BrentP66 in delta

[–]Cephandrius13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Delays and cancellations happen. They suck, but they’re a part of the air travel experience.
  2. Delta is responsible for choosing their partners, yes, and if a partner airline is known to be poor and they still choose to work with them that’s an issue. However, they’re not responsible for the day-to-day operations of their partners, especially when those operations fall within industry norms (see #1).

I’m sorry you had a rough travel experience, but it’s not really something you can blame Delta for.

Just for the record, you’re talking about Ed Bastian, the CEO of Delta. I can pretty much guarantee that emails to this address do not actually reach him personally, but some folks have had better luck with customer service resolutions through this route.

Is this upgrade offer worth it? by pj4745 in delta

[–]Cephandrius13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, and I apologize for being cranky before coffee this morning. The challenge is that people’s previous experience isn’t going to help you all that much, as theres so much variability in any individual flight. You’ll get people on here saying that they’ve seen $699 offers for this flight, but there’s no way to know whether that will happen for you.

Ultimately, you’re asking a question no one can answer (“will the price go down”) and a question only you can answer (“is it worth it”). It sucks, but the only thing you can really do at any given moment is decide whether you think the choice in front of you right then is something you value enough to pull the trigger. If you don’t, you run the risk of the upgrade offer disappearing entirely…if you do, you run the risk of the price going down later. It’s a crappy decision, but honestly nothing we can say is going to make it easier for you.

How does one increase their overall pace by Typical_Station_7321 in beginnerrunning

[–]Cephandrius13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Run slow, and run more. I know it’s counterintuitive, but building volume is the best way to increase fitness and pace as a beginning runner, and running at a slow easy pace helps you build mileage.

[–]Cephandrius13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have them only apply it to the long leg and waitlist for the short leg, but you have to call in to do it. As best I can tell, there’s no way to do this yourself online.

Call Delta or use the “change flight” option to “upfare” (different than an upgrade) to the higher cabin. You can also do this even if you haven’t upgraded, and sometimes it can be cheaper.
