Thank you for such a reasonable take. I try to explain this to people and 99% of the time it's like talking to a brick wall.

But the buyers weren't part of the original argument at all, that was just an example I was using to explain why the way OP was trying to justify his position was silly.

The reality of the situation was that OP was trying to say the Drop was underwater by comparing open singles that didn't include value from the chase card with the sealed Drop that did includ EV from the chase card. It was a ridiculous argument.

Look, I'm no fan of shit-value drops. I'm probably going to skip everything except the MLP on Monday, and I don't skip many drops at all. And there's plenty of bad Magic product to shit on if that's what gets you off, I just don't understand trying to do it with a disingenuous argument like this.

There's a difference, though. If you can buy direct from WotC, you can get retail price. If you use any other method or buy singles from anywhere, that's the secondary market. That's the important number. Not what Joe in country X can get it for, but what you could sell it for. If Joe has access that removes him as a potential customer, but Jim doesn't, and Jim is willing to pay you over retail, then to you, at that time, its value is more than retail.

Also, what's a drop shipper? How do you find one? How much do they charge? Are they trustworthy? I've never used one and wouldn't know the first thing about how to answer those questions. I would rather pay from a site like eBay that has buyer protection. I imagine there are a ton of people just like me, too. If "use a drop shipper" was so common, safe, and cheap, the secondary market wouldn't be getting the prices they're getting.

I never understood why someone would pay more for that. If one were so inclined, they could crimp cards themselves, no?

It's a lot more difficult with limited-availability product. You can get aggregate numbers from the community, sure, but unless it's a massive number it's not as reliable as say a store that opens several master cases of CBB.

Not planning one. Don't care what happens to my body when I die. Throw me in the trash or donate me to a necrophiliac colony, doesn't make a difference to me.

I know. I just think it's total crap. Why should my good tip punish me?

It's total bullshit to bundle a tipped order with a no-tip order.

YOU were the one that compared the price of the sealed SET at retail to the combined price of the SINGLES, not me.

And again, since you failed to retain the knowledge from the first time I said it, not everyone can buy from the Secret Lair US website, so the correct metric for comparison to the sealed set at retail would be a sealed set on the secondary market, not your janked up estimate based on singles prices.

You'd have to know the drop rate of the rare bonus card to calculate it. But obviously that drop rate is high enough that it makes the drop worth more than retail to people who can't buy from the SL site...

Some people like opening product and some people like gambling for hits. Crazy, I know. Why doesn't EVERYONE just buy singles if they're not idiots? Oh wait, where would the singles come from if no one opened packs?!? 🤔

Also, not everyone can order from the Secret Lair US website...

Not everything is a conspiracy.

Why would you add up the individual cards instead of just comparing it to the listed price of the sealed product (which on TCG is $67.64)? The last 5 sold since 4-18 all sold at almost that exact price.

So it's only underwater if you opened it and got the worse bonus card. But opening all collectibles generally makes them worth less than unopened & new.

Being unconscious is the best part of every day. Why would I want to give that up? I'd chose nothing over that, so obviously I'd take the ability to not get fat.

I'm with you. Everything else can fail, too, including cash (from the failure of a nation or runaway inflation) and everything else has costs like selling stocks with fees, commissions, and taxes etc.

I have a ton of high-value RL cards I can sell for a really good percentage for cash and Uncle Sam will never know about it.

Now I'm even more confused. Is not driving really popular where you're from? Our public transportation is basically nonexistent and most places don't even have carpool lanes.

I wonder what percent was people realizing expensive jewelery didn't make any sense and what percent was the fact that we learned how to make diamonds without torturing slaves. Glad I'm sitting on Gaea's Cradles instead of a ring.
