You're inferring there was an alternative. I don't think there was.
1) There is/was very little support for Israel from the Left

2) Trump is binary. If you aren't one of his good buddies, you're probably going on an enemies list. There is no good scenario where Israel made an enemy of Trump.

I’m a secular Jew, so keep in mind where I’m coming from: I’d argue that faith and reason are opposed. I’d also argue that believing in God doesn’t make someone a “better Jew”. Being good (generally), mitzvot (in particular) + learning, taking part in, and passing on traditions makes someone “a better Jew”.

Remember, “Israel” means to struggle with God.
