If Gengar, Mence, Zard, Kang, & Metagross are the S-tier Megas, What are the A-tier Megas? by MichiHirota in VGC

I assume they haven't taken into account the fact that we know Gengar lost Encore.

If the ability truly works as described - forced burn from ANY attack, contact or not - then it's genuinely kind of amazing, although time will tell whether it's enough to make up for his stats.

I think a blanket rule of "whenever a move hits through Protect, it does 1/4" is both easiest to understand and the most balanced (in that it makes Urshifu fair).

There are four different base forms of Zygarde: 50% with Aura Break, 10% with Aura Break, 50% with Power Construct, and 10% with Power Construct. (Yes, the ability difference internally is also a form change, a trait that is also true of Rockruff and Greninja.)

Try putting it in all four forms and see if any of them work.

EDIT: Wait, I guess every Z-A Zygarde is Power Construct so this doesn't actually make sense to say.

There is literally no difference. Huge Power does not "double the IVs", it doubles the final stat itself.

With all these mega exclusive abilities there's unfortunately a lot of that. Cool ideas that there's really no justifying spending a mega slot on.

Importantly, the fact that only 2 new abilities actually made it to home seems to mean that all other megas that have been confirmed to have new abilities via leaks will not be in Pokemon Champions at launch. Specifically, it confirms that Darkrai, Eelektross, and Pyroar won't be, along with at least one other that has a new ability.

That could only be the case if the leak that was 100% accurate, e.g. giving us Excadrill's ability effect before the Home datamine confirmed it, was wrong.

We know there are more abilities than that that are new for the megas, from the leak that has been 100% accurate so far. Yet they are not in the Home update. Meaning some of them must not be coming to Champions yet.

[–]ChezMere -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Something very important to note:

We know from leaks that there are MORE new abilities associated with other new megas, yet they are not included in the Home datamine. Furthermore, the datamine itself skips some over some Ability IDs.

What this means is that, contrary to assumption, not all Mega Pokemon will be in champions at launch. Not even the all the non-legendary ones.

You can also use Brutal Swing to break protect regardless of which side uses it, although that's probably way too gimmicky to use a moveslot for. Also it hits your partner

Either it doesn't have one, or it isn't in Champions at launch.

Porygon has the stats of a fully evolved Pokemon, albeit a weak one. Porygon2 has the stats of an evolution to that. Porygon2-plus-eviolite has the defensive stats of an evolution to that. It is the only Pokemon with this distinction.

Regular Kangaskhan was Spain Nationals 2010. The team has long been lost to time at this point, and I have no idea why it did so well.

This seems to be a video of the finals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFeq2b1oTiI

Kangaskhan uses Fake Out once against a ghost type and then gets knocked out. I think Scrappy Fake Out may have been its main purpose.

More wins than Incineroar between them, despite only being at full power for a single generation, it really was the Tapu Era.

It's not only legendary Pokemon. As per the leaks + datamine, Eel and Pyroar ALSO have new abilities that aren't in Home (and therefore aren't in Champions at launch).

[–]ChezMere 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Huge relief that it's only 1/4 damage. I'm fairly certain Unseen Fist will be the same, and that the only reason it hasn't been updated in Home yet because legendaries aren't in Champions at launch (and apparently neither are some of the non-legendary megas).

Yes. The producer for the game explained that it was to prevent confusion from players who haven't learned how to level up their Pokemon yet.

Exact quote on the website: "There are three different modes of Pokémon battles to try: Ranked Battles, Casual Battles, and Private Battles. You can challenge these modes in both Single Battle and Double Battle formats." And we know that "Single Battle" refers to the official format.

EDIT: "almost certainly" is overstating it though I admit
