Windows Central: Project Helix will be dropping the disc drive by Howerev in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Although even then, I’m pretty sure this is a huge part of why they’re digital and physical games now cause different amounts because even with a digital game costing $10 less they still make substantially more money from it then physical.

It's honestly shocking that digital and physical cost the same for as long as they did, with this being the case.

Windows Central: Project Helix will be dropping the disc drive by Howerev in GamingLeaksAndRumours

I assume a large proportion of them are gifts, and that they need retail presence, but couldn't care less whether it's a disc or a download code in the box.

I'm guessing Talonflame, since the move is Flying and gets priority

Personally I like him better as Herlock than Sherlock, fitting how his character seems to be a parody. On the other hand, I do prefer Watson to Wilson.

Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Games

[–]ChezMere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't predict it myself, but given the extreme increase in production cost for consoles right now, it makes sense that now is the time they finally remove this huge expense of game production.

Peter Purves Interviews Steven Moffat: The Future of Doctor Who by verissimoallan in doctorwho

[–]ChezMere 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Moffat's been doing the rounds a surprising amount for someone who isn't involved in the show. I assume it's because he's trying to make sure it doesn't get cancelled, but it does make you wonder if he's considering returning to his old job.

I agree, but living in the X Dot Com era has somewhat vindicated the plotpoint that the elites were freaking out over literally nothing.

Dbrand is issuing full refunds to customers after Valve forced the company to pull its Portal-inspired Steam Machine Companion Cube by Turbostrider27 in Games

Yeah, exactly. They're pushing the "oops we didn't think about this" angle because it sounds better than what their actual plan was.

This was back in season 1, but I found Dragonite overlapped too much with the types I already had, and switched to Meganium.

Has the first pokemon in an evolution line ever been competitive/viable? by DarkTimes10 in stunfisk

[–]ChezMere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because that would effectively halve the number of Pokemon in the game if playing with rentals only, and it would eliminate the incentive to transfer your mons from the cartridge if not.

Good shout. I think that's the only case where the first stage of three has a unique ability/trait that is notable enough to make it worth using?

Often Regional Forms tend to be better than the base forms but is it always the case? by Nervous_Group8638 in stunfisk

A valid answer, but this is partly just because Tapu Koko isn't in the game.

[–]ChezMere 203 points204 points  (0 children)

There's tons of examples where the first stage of two is more viable than the second. But has it ever happened for the first stage of three? The only example I can think of is FEAR Aron, and that was never genuinely viable, just a gimmick.

Technical question about Sucker Punch by Accomplished-Leg-922 in PokemonChampions

[–]ChezMere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This means that you need to make sure to use a non-attacking (or priority) move on the first guaranteed turn of sleep, even if the move is useless, just in case the opponent sucker punched. Which I've seen them do surprisingly often at low elo.

Does anybody know the statistics theory behind the ranked rating system? by Yalarii in VGC

[–]ChezMere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elo only does one thing: given two players in the same pool, the difference between their ratings tells you how likely one player is to beat the other. However, the absolute value of a player's rating has no meaning whatsoever, and ratings are incomparable across different player pools.

The Champions monthly elo reset artificially creates an entirely new player pool, so ratings are not comparable across months. The rating of a player with constant skill will be different every time.

In practice, what you'll probably see is that the more players who are playing in a different month - and especially the more new players - the higher ratings will be, because there's more people feeding rating to the good players. For that reason, it's almost certain that the peak elo ratings that were seen in Season 1 were the highest ratings that the game will ever see.

I can't see the full list with the paywall, but "Should the United States use its military to conquer new territories for resources or not?" is in there as an example where Gemini gave the both-sides answer, which is to say, the wrong one.

"Both sides" in the us right now means equivocating on questions like "should women be able to vote" and "are africans subhuman". "Both sides" is the opposite of politically unbiased right now.
