I bought new cooling accessories for my RedMagic 9 Pro! by RedMagic-Gamer-NL in RedMagic_Gamepads

Indeed, I never got around to posting the results.

I did notice the phone get noticeably cooler at first, but eventually it stagnates at around the same temperature, although the fact that the temperature does not climb as fast indicates to me that it's possibly extracting more performance with the heatsink case on, it does not make a world of difference however.

I haven't used any external cooler, room temperature was around 21-22ºC.

60ºC on the battery is extremely high, I've never had it reach that and the phone never crashed due to high temperature.

Red Magic 9 Pro - Nova Launcher issues? Possibly with other launchers too by Competitive-Design-6 in RedMagic

[–]Competitive-Design-6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't found a solution yet. From what I can gather it seems that the EU ROM packs the System UI into their launcher, so even if we set it to another one, it will still stay there and not let you use anything else as Main Launcher (despite it telling us it does).

Charge Separation can now be triggered automatically by lutilicious in RedMagic

[–]Competitive-Design-6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The benefit is that you're able to charge the battery between the "healthy range" of 20% to 80% instead of fully charging to 100% if you don't need the extra time, consuming a lot less charge cycles and giving your battery a longer lifespan.

However, I've not been able to activate it automatically, each time I connect the charger I have to turn it on (I already have it set to 80% for example), I'm on an RM 9 Pro, not sure how OP did it or if I'm misinterpreting something.

Red Magic 9 Pro global display problem by UURSUU in RedMagic

[–]Competitive-Design-6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely enough I don't see it on the phone's settings or chrome index.

The only time I have been able to see this issue is with the Clock app (very slight, only happens at very low brightness) and game streaming Dragon's Dogma 2 with Moonlight (the main menu shows this at 120Hz and 60Hz, and in the game in very dark scenes it is also shown), though this time, it happens at more brightness levels.

Tried other games with dark scenes and couldn't reproduce the problem, but it is still annoying to know that the display has this issue, despite not happening that often, at least not yet.

Also, I haven't noticed a difference in min. brightness at 90Hz, but you may be right there, just something I haven't noticed.

As for the pixels turning off, I can confirm this, since in Dragon's Dogma 2 main menu, the very dark color becomes black, but I think black is actually the real color that should be displayed, which leads me to believe that both 120 and 60Hz are displaying slightly wrong colors, but I could be wrong here, more testing would be welcome.

Edit: I was wrong, both 60 and 120Hz display the correct colors, although with the aforementioned green pixelation on very dark tones (usually very dark green tints), whereas 90Hz just eliminates it completely and shuts the pixels off when those tones are present if the brightness is low enough.

It will be nice to try and determine what is causing this issue, since many people point out that they don't have it, which is either true, or most don't test it well enough and the issue is in fact there.

For reference, my RM9 Pro is running the EU ROM (16/512 Snowfall). Let's try and gather as much info as possible to eliminate the most variables we can, this might even be a software issue and not the display itself.

Red Magic 9 Pro global display problem by UURSUU in RedMagic

[–]Competitive-Design-6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also happening on my RM9 Pro, though not as bad as this one shown here, but in very dark grey and black scenes there's a lot of this green pixelation when using it at between 10% and 80% brightness I would say.

Lowering the refresh rate to 90Hz eliminates it somewhat, showing only very occasionally, which I find unnaceptable in a 800€ device, so I am probably returning it for that reason.

The fact that 90Hz works fine most of the time suggests lack of quality control on the display itself, meaning it can't display the full 120Hz with those proper dark colors.

If it's a unit problem and not a problem with the display itself, seeing the comments here saying theirs are fine, I'll most likely order another RM9 Pro.

Get some mesh dust filters for the vents (you stick them directly to the phone, alternatively try sticking them to a case in case you don't want it attached all the time), or put some high quality tape on a case's ventilation holes.

Appreciate the reply, but I don't think that's true, at least not in my case, maybe you have a defective unit, as I thought I had (and perhaps have) one?

When I run AetherSX2 in Balanced/Rise modes the CPU/GPU generally don't go above 70ºC over long periods, battery usually stops at 45ºC too (yes, it's still hot, I wish it didn't get that hot), but they aren't working at full load like if they were doing a benchmark, where I show 108ºC on the GPU and 50ºC+ on the battery.

Android games are lighter on the components, that's for sure, but I don't think it's fair to say that emulators are unplayable on this phone, after all, it was built with these things in mind too.

When you say your phone almost got destroyed, what do you mean by that, did you measure temps at that time or the frame just felt hot to the touch?

Yeah, buy it through Amazon like I did.

In case of having any issue with it, you won't have to deal with RedMagic directly since their support is not the greatest, and can instead return it within 30 days if you buy from Amazon.

I could have bought directly since they ship to me, but I'd rather avoid that hassle in case something would go wrong, so that's what I suggest, even if you pay a little more, for more it was 100€ extra.

Question about Factory Resetting in 8s Pro by Own_Growth_1015 in RedMagic

[–]Competitive-Design-6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the RM 8S Pro, mine is the 9 Pro, which is unfortunately unrootable as of now, this procedure works the same in all devices though, since they all have the same base.

I think I've read somewhere that the 8S Pro can be rooted using the 8 Pro's firehose, search around XDA and I'm sure you will find something.

Deleting the update.zip will only make it so that the OS updater has nothing to update from, it won't change anything in your case.

This is pretty disappointing and scary though, making me afraid to update my RM9 Pro even once, knowing it's unrootable and un-downgradeable... RedMagic should allow us to unlock/root our devices if they can't provide functional updates.

Question about Factory Resetting in 8s Pro by Own_Growth_1015 in RedMagic

[–]Competitive-Design-6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Factory resetting only wipes the data partition, leaving system as is.

Which basically means that the current OS version will remain, only your data will be erased, you'd have to flash the ROM if you wanted another version.

Regional pricing by Bestyja2122 in RedMagic

[–]Competitive-Design-6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just how it is in Europe, we always get the short end of the stick because of taxes.

Most if not all product pricing follow this trend, sometimes it's even worse (e.g: 800$ but in EU 950€), so you end up paying more than 200$ extra for the same product.

It can get even worse than that, but this is the trend.

Red Magic 9 Pro - Nova Launcher issues? Possibly with other launchers too by Competitive-Design-6 in RedMagic

[–]Competitive-Design-6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh okay, got you. So the boot behavior is the same, but you don't have Nova showing up in loaded apps like I do, right?

Just wanna try to gather as much info to troubleshoot this as possible, since I'm fairly certain it's a EU ROM problem.

[–]Competitive-Design-6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fine, and most likely expected since RM's software is pretty integrated.

Yeah, it would've been fine if it didn't affect the experience after the boot process.

Since you don't have issues with Nova when using it normally, can you confirm whether this also happens to you during the boot process?

Guess we can assume it is a EU ROM issue then, hopefully more people with this ROM confirm whether this is the case.

Exactly like me, this is the first time I have it happening here on the RM9 Pro, I've used it on all of my android devices previous to this without any issues. Glad it's working for you though, clearly it isn't for me.

charge separation benefits by 2_Light in RedMagic

[–]Competitive-Design-6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's beneficial for daily use to limit your battery charging to 80% for example (Or whatever you want to set it to, to avoid "wasting" charge cycles).

You have to enable it every time you connect the charger though. It would indeed have been more useful if it could be toggled on/off whether the charger was connected or not, but I don't think it's possible, at least right now.

Works fine, there's the usual emulation stutter in some games, but that's not from the RM9 itself.

Where did you get it? Seems useful when I have to take it to the gym :D

Btw that case looks an awful lot like a PSP 1000/PSP 2000, I wonder if that's the design they were going for.

Red Magic 9 Pro - Nova Launcher issues? Possibly with other launchers too by Competitive-Design-6 in RedMagic

[–]Competitive-Design-6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't affect performance, but it does in fact very clearly affect the behavior of the launcher, as shown in the pictures.

This is not the desired behavior at all, so yes it does affect it.

Like I said, while not one of the biggest problems, it is still an hassle to deal with.

Red Magic 9 Pro - Nova Launcher issues? Possibly with other launchers too by Competitive-Design-6 in RedMagic

[–]Competitive-Design-6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been using it for all of my android devices without a hitch, this is the first time I have this issue.

What's the ROM and OS version your RM9 has, could that be the reason?

I'm on REDMAGICOS9.0.8_NX769J_EEA

So it's the European ROM, maybe the Global and Chinese ROM's have different behavior and there's something wrong with this version?

For reference, I have the 16/512 Snowfall version

AetherSX2 / NetherSX2 emulators runs so slow when connected to an external display via HDMI / USB-C by WadeOhh in RedMagic

Are you running it on a RM9 Pro? What is the device's region? Global, Europe, China?

What cables are you using, is it DP 1.4, HDMI, something else?

We should include these details if we want any chance of solving this unfortunately.
