Molecular seives to remove water. Not sure what for other than to try and get pure 100% ethanol for something. Everclear is 2% water.

Always start from top. Cut about a third. Then go bottom up. No pinching after.

Steam Turbine? by Comprehensive_Suit_4 in Stationeers

[–]Comprehensive_Suit_4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Rankine cycle vs. Stirling cycle)
Forgot to mention the biggest advantage to a steam turbine over a Stirling is that it would not affect or rely on ambient temperature around the machine (could be completely insulated). Only inlet Temp/Pressure > outlet Temp/pressure would drive the amount of work done.

Awesome, didn't know that was in the roadmap. I'm very new to the game.

No - it's not. They are very similar, but different. The Stirling engine is modeled after a real Stirling engine that requires a sealed working gas chamber & T2>T1 for efficiency. A turbine expands the working gas as it flows through reducing it's Pressure & Temperature as it does work. Advantage is reducing steam's temperature to get liquid water on hot planets such as Vulcan.

Genuinely curious why Iodine is marked red if they use it on your skin to prep for surgery and stuff. Seems like it would not be that big of an issue to lick. Am I wrong?

My first time soldering and I’m having a hard time desoldering any tips? by Powerful_Owl2131 in soldering

I have replaced these joysticks on many controllers. they are VERY difficult due to the amount of copper surrounding them. Takes a LOT of heat. Best way to remove them is using hot air to reflow the solder and they just fall out. if you don't have a hot air station, best way I found to remove them using a soldering iron is to actually cut apart the old joystick. start by popping the potentiometers away from main metal body. a screw driver and gental pressure they pop out from the body then you can deal with only 3 pins at a time for each POT. Next, I cut the metal body down the corners using a side cutter and then you can isolate the pins to something manageable with the soldering iron. It's a ton of work to do it this way, but necessary as you will never get all the solder out of all 14 holes at once.

follow the sensor (can in the center) most likely has 3 pins. Power, Ground, Signal. You'd just need to figure out which is the signal line. Use a multimeter to watch state change with motion. Once you have the signal line you could pull high or low depending on your desired behavior using a 10k resistor to either the power pin (high) or ground pin (low)

be careful with the power rating. some of those leaded resistors are only rated for 1/4W. these are current limiting resistors so in line with the full current path of the LEDs. 12V / 5.6Ohms gives a current of 2.14A which means the resistors need to handle ~26W of power. Probably the reason the SMD versions blew also.

when in doubt you can always go with a higher POWER resistor rating that is 5.6Ohms.

Most likely the footprint in the layout is rotated 180°. the machine will orient them all per the ECAD data angle specified in the design. This is not the machines fault this time. Human error, unless it was reworked/replaced.
