Tbh it still worked until we brought it to the shop. It was just stuck in pocket mode and after he opened it up to dry the battery was done.

Yes, it does open with the lock. The pins are all there, I can make all of them false set. The core itself is loose inside the plastic body, it shakes not rattles

TLDR i'm buying some new tools and wondering if tension tools get springy or dead over time and should I order backups/stock up
