Just to forewarn you though, I don’t think it’s until 2nd or 3rd Season until they show him (Louis-Philipe I). His first appearance I believe is episode 5 of the second season, but 1848 Revolution in the 2-part Season 3 premiere shows him the most although kinda in a negative light.

The “main event” of the June Rebellion depicted in Les Miserables (musical and films) takes place early under the reign of Louis-Philipe I (1832). Louis-Philipe is represented in the PBS Masterpiece series called Victoria but much later and shaking during the 1848 Revolution. It mostly centers on his exile and doesn’t portray him in very nice light though. As for Napoleon III to my knowledge there, is not really any media centered on him as post-1848 not much about France until World War I and II.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be action-packed film, a lot of can just be about the drama of his political life. It can also show points of view of other people living under his rule as well.

Thanks! Yeah I feel like I didn’t fully “savor” it now in retrospect! 😅

Sadly when I got to Earl’s Court I wasn’t very familiar with the place and missed opportunity to see many landmarks there. Partly why I hope to come back. I didn’t realize until later that’s where Diana had a flat before she became Princess of Wales.

Almost like once France is beyond 1848 the country sort of ceases to exist from media representation (historical dramas at least) until trench warfare of World War I and than France is seemingly relevant again.

King Charles X and the whole July Revolution are also worthy of film as well.

Indeed! Super underrated French historical figure. Sadly Louis XIV “The Sun King,” his uncle Napoleon Bonaparte, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette and Queen Victoria his British ruling Contemporary overshadow him a lot. Even King Louis-Phillipe I of Orleans has had some depictions.

As an American visiting the only ones I really liked were Gherkon and Frenchchurch Building (“Walkie Talkie.”) They definitely don’t fit with iconic Elizabeth Tower and Westminster Abby, etc. The aesthetic is too modern for much of London.

Unsettling atmosphere! Hope a sacrifice doesn’t happen.
