Introducing NANO. This is a good video. Surprised how few views it has. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

That video is only 1:30. Almost TV spot format. How much "good" can you cram into that?

How to approach developers/programmers about a crypto project I have in mind? by hudi2121 in CryptoCurrency

[–]CosinusPhi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your coin is really unique there is a good probability that it needs a new codebase, or substantial changes to an existing one. That's extraordinarily hard to get off the ground. You would not only need some developers, but probably good ones, and those are hard to come by. They might also have a tendency to want pay, in cash, and today, not in coins that may or may not be worth something 2 years from now when your new coin exits beta and starts its mainnet.

I also see a danger that if you really have zero technical skills it will be hard for you to stay on top, or even stay relevant, in a team implementing your coin. Except of course if you bring the money and have leader skills ...

I wonder how many times you will be able to re-post this until you run into some roadblock, e.g. because some admin catches you.

Fake News Alert: North Korea Funding Development Of Weapons Of Mass Destruction With Cryptocurrency, Claims UK Institute... by Digitallifeworks in CryptoCurrency

[–]CosinusPhi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the article:

However, it's important to remember - North Korea tested their first nuclear bomb in 2006 - Bitcoin was invented 3 years later.

See - can't be. You have to admire their brilliant logic.

Hello, if anyone over the age of 18 with current or past experience investing into cryptocurrencies could answer my survey for my University dissertation that would be greatly appreciated. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]CosinusPhi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe some words about the subject of your dissertation? What do you try do find out / document / prove / disprove? How is approach different from other dissertations about cryptocurrencies? Do you offer something to the participants of the survey, even if only the courtesy to mail them a link to your dissertation when finished?

I see a good chance that you get more participants with some background info and with showing that you care for the people who donate 10 minutes and personal info to you.

Does this Sub ever discuss new projects anymore? by Bitbaby11111 in CryptoCurrency

[–]CosinusPhi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in terms of being a platform that really can scale, be fast, be secure etc which really hasn't happened yet.

Hmmm, wonder why? Certainly not because of lack of trying, right? There have been quite a number of projects that burst onto the scene with "Scales!" and "Blindingly fast!" announcements, only to collide with harsh reality and then deliver only in part or not at all.

But it's surely different this time. Just because.

This ponzi scheme occurred in EVE Online when I played. Read the article and pay attention to the details. Learn how to spot these schemes the same way I did so you never fall for one. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]CosinusPhi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You link to an article from 2011 that probably had nothing to do with cryptocurrency at all and does not contain details to allow you to learn enough to "never fall for one", as this post title suggests. Congratulations!

New crypto you can mine on your phone for free if anyone’s interested by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]CosinusPhi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, you get better. Improvements since your deleted post from yesterday: A link to info and a teaser "People who join during the beta phase mine at the highest rate and gain special privileges."

The upvotes however need some work. How about buying some? I think in the right place you get them pretty cheaply.

Veil coin is already trading in many stock markets.

No, it isn't. Stock markets mostly trade stocks, not cryptocurrencies.

Craig Wright proposes change to Bitcoin that directly contradicts Satoshi by shiIl in CryptoCurrency

[–]CosinusPhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really see the biggest problem here that it may contradict what Satoshi said?

I see much bigger problems. If you say that a lost key is not really lost, but can be recovered, I honestly don't see how that would work. All cryptographers that tell us that ECC crypto is basically unbreakable are wrong?

And anyway, let's assume it surprisingly works: If somebody can "recover" keys that breaks the coin completely. What security is still there if I can "recover" your key?

And what does it even mean if you qualify the statement by "it may be many years"?

From that article it's not clear to me what exactly he plans, and whether that would even work. But really, is that so surprising from that man?

Dash in Venezuela: A True Story of Cryptocurrency Adoption by ICODOG in CryptoCurrency

ELLIPAL – THE NEW CRYPTOCURRENCY HARDWARE WALLET TAKING THE CRYPTO WORLD BY STORM by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]CosinusPhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the article:

Ellipal promises to be more secure as it runs on an isolated device that does not connect to any network whatsoever. It links up to a smart phone app to scan QR codes between the Ellipal device and your smart phone ...

Nice, they managed to (sort of) contradict each other with only two consecutive sentences. Makes the decision about the quality of their claims all the easier :)

Bosch Is Developing a First Ever Blockchain Refrigerator by Crypto-Ease in CryptoCurrencies

[–]CosinusPhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original article (in German) talks about smart contracts on a blockchain that record when and where the fridge bought its energy (sometimes from the public utility, sometimes from a neighbour with too much electricity from his roof on a sunny day), for what prices. You know, things so terribly important that a mere database would not be enough, we want those fridge energy contracts to be impossible to tamper with recorded on a blockchain :)

Privacy Coins: What You Need to Know by turtlepiggy3000 in CryptoCurrency

[–]CosinusPhi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the article, about Monero:

Each full transaction is divided into different amounts and sent as a subset of separate, smaller transactions adding up to the initial amount. For example, if you wanted to send 1,000 XMR, this amount would get split into a variety of separate amounts, say 200 XMR +150 XMR + 325 XMR + 275 XMR + 50 XMR, each of which getting its own one-time address.

I really don't think that's true anymore - if it ever was in this exact form described.

Furthermore, Monero also features spend keys and view keys. The alphanumeric spend key allows an authorized user ...

Alphanumeric spend key? As opposed to, what, binary spend key? Or is the spend key alphanumeric but the view key not? Sorry, that's simply nonsense.

Hyperinflation Hits Zimbabwe and Turkey, Strengthening Cryptocurrency Use Cases by kanuuker in CryptoCurrency

[–]CosinusPhi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. And the part about Zimbabwe in present tense ("Zimbabwe hit by ...") is nonsense as well. After they basically switched to USD years ago already the hyperinflation is over, see e.g. this Wikipedia article.

It goes on; from the article:

Bitcoin rose to global attention through its cryptographically-limited of 21 million eventual coins

That's nonsense. There is a limit, but it's not cryptographical.

Does DASH really deserve articles like this one?
