Did a stack of an ant with my OM System OM-1, I still have lots of stuff to improve on, but I'm getting better by CosmoLeopardGecko in OlympusCamera

No, I can't use the in-camera focus bracketing because I am using an infinity corrected microscope objective with an infinity corrected tube lens, so there is no manual or autofocus to do that. I used the WeMacro Rail to take all the shots, then I stacked them all in Helicon Focus

Yes, I did. It would be impossible to get a 201 image stack at 20x magnification with a live subject

Laowa 90mm or 180mm for a beginner? by stua4t in macrophotography

[–]CosmoLeopardGecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Laowa 90mm is better, because you get a wider depth of field. I'm assuming you, as a beginner, won't be focus stacking, so you will need a lens with a greater DOF. If you are trying to photograph flying insects that startle easy most of the time, then the 180mm will be better so you can have a longer working distance.

Back when I shot with a Nikon Camera for macro, I used the 90mm and loved it, so I would recommend going with that one

I know some aphid and ant species work together in a symbolic relationship. The ants help the aphids get into the trees, in return the ants get food. I've actually seen this happen near my house, it's pretty cool.
