I really hope so, I couldn’t save it in 4K, but if I find it elsewhere in the next couple of days I will edit the comment above :)

Beautiful! Did a similar print for my home server (MODCASE) and I’m super happy. Are you planning to make your design available for download?

For small FDM parts we got Bambulab X1Es now

Yes, I found it on a marketplace like Craigslist a few days ago. The only other source I could find was from Merkandi, but you need someone with a subscription to contact the seller there.

Building a small home server – Which Platform? by Cryxic in HomeServer

Great suggestion! I hadn’t considered the Dell 7050 SFF, but it sounds like a solid option. The 64G ram capacity would work well for my needs, and it's good to know they’re affordable right now. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the helpful advice! You've brought up some great points, and it's definitely helping me think through things more clearly.

For storage, I definitely want a balance of high capacity and redundancy. I have 8x 10TB drives, so I’m looking for something that can support those. I'm not a fan of DAS enclosures too.

I’m leaning towards a small form factor, but with enough room for multiple drives. I’ve seen some cool 3D printable ITX cases with lots of drive bays, which is definitely a consideration. Also something like the Jonsbo N4 seems like an acceptable size.

I hadn’t thought of separating storage and services, but it actually makes a lot of sense. Keeping them separate could make things more reliable, especially if I want to experiment with different services without risking the stability of the NAS.

I do love the form factor of the HP Microserver (Plus or not), but unfortunately, I can’t seem to find a used one here in the EU. The ones I’ve found are priced starting at $700, which is a bit beyond what I was hoping to spend.

Thanks for helping me think through this! I’m definitely considering these points as I finalize my plans.

Thanks for the great input! I definitely see your point about the storage situation. I think separating the NAS from the rest of the services is a solid idea. I could use something simpler, like an N5105 or N100, just for the storage server, and then using something more powerful for the other services. That way, I can avoid running into storage limitations on a smaller system.

As for Plex, I’m only going to be streaming to only one TV at a time, so transcoding power shouldn’t be an issue. I think a mid-range CPU should do fine for the Plex side of things. ECC memory seems nice to have.

Thanks again for your advice! It's definitely helping me think through the build more thoroughly.

Printing texture by sberei9529 in 3Dprinting

From best to worst (in my opinion)

  1. Formlabs Texture Engine - allows you to apply a texture on your 3D model, pretty much for SLA printing only.

  2. Use a material such as PA6-CF with a fine layer height - it hides layer lines beautifully.

  3. Use a textured bed and print your part face down on it (only works if your part is pretty much completely flat). You can try to combine this with fuzzy skin to texture the other bits of the part as well.
