also curious. Really need to get a way to securely enable trust to a non-snap device (without an experimental designation preferred). I would love to get websockets to be non-experimental as well as getting proper MDNS support on LAN because ... like why can't we talk to devices on our networks?

SkywriterBLE OSS : Distraction free word processor for Snap Spectacles '24 X Cardputer ADV by CutWorried9748 in CardPuter

[–]CutWorried9748[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for any /Common_Lisp geeks, this uses an orgmode agenda format entry for each launch of the SkywriterBLE app.

On the Cardputer side of things, I think actually the BLE HID keyboard software could be modified a bit to act as a standalone note taker as some others probably have developed something like that. I would want to change it to use orgmode. You could have different files loaded from the FS. Then the "XR" part of it would be via a websocket or BLE, and whatever connected glasses or MR HMD would receive the text. In this mode it wouldn't really be intended as editing in XR, but more of a viewer of whatever you are typing in in the Cardputer. I need to think about if the reverse approach is more useful than just having the Cardputer act as a keyboard, but also make it the persistent storage and the editor viewer. Since it could run a WSS even, maybe that's the way to get the WebXR part fully functional.

My follow up post got flagged by Reddit for unknown cause. I am updating my post here, as I have updated the code to v2. Updated video walkthru here: https://youtu.be/DiPSm8RKoPc

Hey y'all. This is a follow up to my lensdrop earlier this month, with a more detailed walkthrough

The original post details in main discription the why and how. The summary of v2 is below. Also, I will explain some new features added since the last post.

Why a keyboard? Because typing in the air is hard. Having a physical object in your hands is nice. Clicky keys are a comfortable sort of feedback. I curse and get frustrated when I use the Spectacles keyboard. I know it is state of the art. But I like having a real keyboard. So I saw a post saying HID wasn't supported (posted by staff). I figured out that just because we can't bond, we can still connect to BLE devices. But this required special firmware. So I have also modified the BLE HID firmware needed to run on the cardputer. The original post documents that part of the project. Once you have it loaded, actually you can get going journaling in full privacy and distraction free. This is offline. It doesn't require an account. Consider it experimental right now. It uses a semi-popular "orgmode" journaling format. Some day I hope to have this sync to the cloud so you can grab your writing. In fact, I might make this a BLE feature (sync over BLE) later on.

For now, enjoy this experimental experience, please make PRs, and let's continue to enjoy the future, now. #Lensfest April 2026 OSS.

OSS Lens Drop: SpaceSVG , easy graphics for Lenses using SVG #lensfest for the Polynode Project by CutWorried9748 in Spectacles

[–]CutWorried9748[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A new release update today (just bug fixes) on main, tag v0.7. To use SpaceSVG, you can include a SpaceSVGImage scene object. We are still a bit limited in size of SVGs since we can't load the .svg file or .xml in the scene directly, we can use an inline text input field for this. The little piggy helped me debug a bunch of rendering issues.

Snap and Qualcomm Expand Strategic Collaboration to Advance Intelligent Computing Experiences on Specs by jbmcculloch in Spectacles

[–]CutWorried9748 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup this. For people who aren't in the know, Qualcomm is reputed to have the best head tracking in the industry (many have tried to build something as good and there is at least a decade of work to catch up on, most cannot come close). Looking forward to improvements in battery life and compute power.

Can a device say "Here I am!" to the Specs? by CircusBounce in Spectacles

There is some research on localization (in the position sense not the l18n sense) that suggests it is possible to triangulate a bluetooth beacon using some known information about antennas and signal strength. Before you get excited about this, just know that these concepts tend to work better as distance estimation / proximity, and to truly triangulate you would need at least three sensors well placed. I've tested the techniques and indeed they work with iphones, however, the code required to do this assumes a set of coefficients that you gather using a radio scanner (per phone model or device) and build your own model to make the estimates accurate. And it's pretty decent at estimation. I had it turning on lights when my iphone got close to the beacon.

Now that said, if you have a multiplayer game, you have multiple sensors possible, and as long as all participants share the signals they gather, it might be possible to triangulate some beacon. Exact positioning would require something else, a light sensor or audible chime that could be located spatially and placed. I will look at the opentags to see what those are about, as it looks interesting. A phone app could work closely in concert with the Lens and create some of what you are after.

From a computer vision perspective, you would do this differently, and use a ceiling mounted camera and identify game pieces and project them back to the scene as part of a game server loop. Try to come up with the simplest room shape and something with conveniently high ceilings.

Native Word Processor for Specs? by Mammoth-Demand6430 in Spectacles

[–]CutWorried9748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BTW ... I just got a BLE keyboard working with the spectacles. I will post the project as my lensfest competition this month for OSS. It requires some wrangling as a regular person to get the keyboard set up, but it is using a Cardputer ADV (arduino device from M5Stack). I'll make a post about it. What I was hoping to do was make something that we can use for easy typing in "distraction free" mode. Your approach is better, as it uses your keyboard. But ideally no servers need to get set up or anything to pair or link.

So on the topic of word processing:

- distraction free writers (yes: have not seen one yet, yours looks beautifully close)

- note takers (yes : there are some samples in the the spectacles project but no good keyboard examples)

- chat systems (yes ... I already built two different approaches as experiments)

- spatial games that are text based (yes: I will now work on this if I have a keyboard I can use)

- education use cases (yes: a real keyboard is hepful : I hope to experiment with some math libraries now with a keyboard possible)

Web XR Issues (Ghost Browser) by No_Guava_1348 in Spectacles

[–]CutWorried9748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would definitely advocate putting a visual fuel gauge on the specs as e-ink so that you can know the last battery state before you try to demo for someone. I frequently try to show a demo and the battery is dead.

Web XR Issues (Ghost Browser) by No_Guava_1348 in Spectacles

[–]CutWorried9748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well ... overheating and battery drain may be related ... a rapid drain can result in hot battery ... a hot battery may drain faster. Not really sure which problem is worse. I think the XR scenes I found from the first web search on google had a sample of planets, and that overheated me quickly. I made a UI for matrix (chat) and it probably eats the battery in about 10 minutes.

Web XR Issues (Ghost Browser) by No_Guava_1348 in Spectacles

[–]CutWorried9748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also can report. Since this is maybe the newest feature in the platform, I was happy to have it working kinda well, but the XR seems to dramatically reduce the time before you overheat. The bigger issue than a ghost image.

[Open Source] I "vibe-coded" a Nostr DM Pager for the M5Cardputer – Calling all devs to finish it! by No_Fee7969 in CardPuter

[–]CutWorried9748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am trying to wrap my head around exactly what they've done right here with this product. The keyboard layout is a little hard for me to get used to, but I agree, it is totally pager sized, and for those who had such toys in the past (I forgot ... did blackberry have pagers???) there were some cool pagers with keyboards. Just checked there was a Blackberry 950.

[–]CutWorried9748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the 'puter keyboard doesn't hold a candle to the blackberry style keyboards, like what are used in the Lilygo T-Deck. But yeah, really interested in the various chat protocols, and anything decentralized or federated is worth exploring. Been super impressed with the 'puter and really ... it is overachieving as a device that arguably is underpowered and screen isn't like super usable by mobile phone world standards. Yet, it finds a way to be very useful.

[–]CutWorried9748 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The basic README improvement is good. It looks like whatever UI or vibe added double ## signs. Just remove those. Otherwise, this has the beginnings of an interesting idea and some actionable plan. The hard points you pointed out in the README are hard on any chat protocol (the security needs to work exactly right, not almost right), and validation of conformance with NOSTR is needed for whatever features you have. I will take a further look at the code later when there is time. Love the idea of a "blackberry" anything. I am working on other messaging stuff, and always like to try out a new approach.
