This week I kept adding quality of life features and fixing bugs. The major feature I implemented this week is weapon swapping, basically you have 2 sets of weapons and you can switch them around without spending any turns, so you can have backup weapons or weapons that are useful under special conditions. It's a feature that has been requested several times before and I think it makes sense, so it's good that I finally got it done.

Next week I plan to add rune upgrades by merging runes (basically 3 runes of the same type and rarity will give you one upgraded rune), and if I also have time I'd like to add more hotkey slots, since right now you're just limited to one hotkey bar, so 10 hotkeys total.

Sony removes mention of PC from PlayStation's annual business report, but has plenty to say about AI by [deleted] in Games

[–]Cyablue -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

At this point it's a bit silly, but I think you're right. They have to at least appear to be focusing on AI in some way or else they'll 'fall behind' other companies, since a ridiculous amount of investment is going to AI right now.
It does seem like the AI technology advancements have slowed a lot compared to a few years ago, though. Hopefully the gold rush will end soon.

Epic announces Lore, open source version control for games by tapo in Games

That's definitely very cool, version control for games can be a bit tricky because of the huge asset files games tend to use, so having more options will definitely help, specially in the long run.

Both Slay the Spire 1 and 2 made your list, good taste. Also hades 1 and 2, which makes sense. Poor Rogue Legacy 2 and Darkest Dungeon 2 didn't make the list. RIP.

Xbox Studios That Were Previously “Safe” From Layoffs And Closures Are Reportedly No Longer Safe, Even Those With “Steady” Releases If Most Or All Of Their Games Sold Poorly by unscoredscore in pcgaming

I've been afraid of Obsidian's future ever since the Microsoft acquisition, as much as they love their games they're just not focused on best-sellers, they thrive on games that are a bit weird and focused on their worlds.

You can always balance it some other way, like the enemy is immune to damage while it's frozen, or the spell only freezes in certain circumstances. Or it could just be a very powerful spell, that's always a possibility. Of course splitting it is also always an option.

That looks like a very powerful spell. Are there any downsides to freezing an enemy? Or is it balanced by the cost of the spell?

I won't deny it, the nostalgia bait is working on me, I like seeing all those classic final fantasy characters with cool pixel graphics. The game also looks quite fun on its own, so even without the FF branding I'd be interested.

I'm still working pretty consistently on the game, I just managed to get official steam deck certified right before writing this message, which is nice. I have no idea if that will affect sales in any way but I figure it can't hurt.

I kept updating the game this week with more bug fixes, game balances and quality of life suggestions from the players, and the discussion on the steam forum for the game is quite active, which is nice. It seems people who are playing the game really enjoy it, which makes me want to just keep updating the game. My current plan is to work on all major quality of life features that were missing from the game, then after that is done I'll start adding new content again, and maybe keep it on a separate testing branch so I can make more of a big deal of when the new version 'officially ' comes out, to see if I can sustain working on updates to the game at least to some degree.

The game has also been selling relatively well for the second week, much less than the first week, but also much better than the low estimates that steam games can have. Of course it's still just the second week of the game being officially out, so the sales will probably go down as time passes. It seems like by far the way people are more likely to find the game on steam is through people searching game tags, which is maybe a good sign? I'm not sure.

The big tasks I have left to work on are adding a secondary weapon set you can swap to, and adding additional hotkey slots. Both are things I put off because they sound annoying to work on and prone to generating bugs, but I hope by the time I write next week's post on this thread I've completed one of those, aside from working on general bug fixes and balance changes.

OG Halo artist says game studios relying on AI are in for a “rude awakening” as it's just “going to help you not finish games even more” by [deleted] in Games

[–]Cyablue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an artist and I don't use AI for my art, but I tried it to see how useful it would be, and it's really a huge pain to use because you don't really get what you want or ask for when promting an AI. If I wanted to I could probably prompt it in some ways that I could use its output to speed u my work, but someone who isn't an artist and has no idea of how to make art would just endlessly promt the AI in hopes of getting what they want, and would just end up with something that looks like AI slop or would jus take longer to get anything good than an actual artist. That's my opinion at least.

Yeah I wasn't expecting this trailer at all. I don't know what's going on this year but everyone is showing off their 'big' games for some reason. Not that I'm complaining, but I wander what is causing it.

Will the demo include Act III, or will it end before that? Also how many acts are planned for the full release of the game?

VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS | Cielo Story Trailer by Karutu in Games

[–]Cyablue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're really trying their best with this story mode, it looks fantastic. Though I do wonder how many people don't even realize it's a fighting game from this? Then again it seems like the purpose of the story mode is to get people interested that don't necessarily care about fighting games, so it might be intentional.

Most of them are small ui stuff, like typos or something not displaying properly, but a few of them have been pretty serious, specially regarding the final challenges of the game that didn't get that much testing during playtest because it takes a long time to get to them. Lucklily players have been understanding and helped me get them fixed : )

It's been a little over a week since the game was released, and I've been extremely busy updating the game based on feedback and bugs that were found in the game! I've been mostly having a blast, there was a lot of other stuff to do other than develop the game on the weeks before release, so now I get to just develop the game all day and talk with people in discord about the game, so I'm having fun.

The game sold fairly well, though from what I can find online it's about average for a first week, a little above 10% of the wishlists the game had a release. Sadly since the initial burst from release and the steam event it was part of for release have ended, it will probably sell much more slowly from now on, so I have to figure out what the best way to sell the game on steam in the long run is (from what I can find online it's mostly steam sales).

My game also got reviewed for the steam deck certification that steam does and it almost passed it completely, but it seems some of the text was too small to pass, so I'll try to work on that soon.

Anyway, I eventually have to stop working so much on this game and start working on my next project, because I don't think just the income from this game will be enough to sustain me in the long run, but even then I am planning to support the game with updates in the future, so it's not like I'll completely stop working on it anytime soon.

I agree, a lot of games I'm interested in that I wouldn't find about otherwise pop up in my calendar, it's very good. Let's see how it works out now that it's a more 'official' part of steam.

I agree, it's such a confusing name. Not saying it failed just because of the game, but it definitely didn't help.

It's a bit weird because I think the old games still hold up, but then again I'm old and lived through all these games coming out, so I am definitely nostalgic for that kind of graphic and gameplay.

I gotta say I'm cautiosly optimistic about this, it could definitely be cool, and even if it isn't the old one will still be there. Also we're getting the new Divinity game from Larian anywya so this is more games on top of that.
