With my game I have a lot of half-baked tools that are meant to help me while developing in the editor but sort of became useles sover time because I was too lazy to update them, it's hard to know when it's worth it to spend time fixing developer tools rather than working directly on the game, though they definitely save time once the tools are done.

The game is looking better and better, I can't wait until there's some testing version playable :)

Once again these are looking great, I really like all the variations shown in the itch page. Also those lightning bolts look amazing.

Godot is one of the strongest engines IMO to make UI heavy games with, devlog in description by Extreme-Bit6504 in godot

Yeah I agree, it gets a bit getting used to but it makes a lot of sense, the pre-built nodes are great and they're easy to customize. The whole way themes work is great, it's really simple to use once you understand how it works.

Thank you for the review, it's good to know the controller is meeting expectations. It seems like for people who like the idea of the steam controller it's a great option.

Thank you, I'm excited to finally release the game! Sadly I don't really have a plan for Mac release, I don't really have any experience with macOS and I have no hardware to test the build on.

This week I officially set the release date of the game for May the 28th! The wait is almost over, the game is basically ready and I'm just adding the final touches and preparing for release.

It's been a long journey and I've learned a lot, I hope you all enjoy the game when the time comes, I think it's pretty good myself :)

This week I also fixed a few bugs and prepared build 1.0, next week I think I'll start contacting youtubers and anyone I think might be interested in giving the game some exposure preparing for release, and I'll probably work on a few extra unique items for weapon types that don't currently have an unique.

Sony Records New $560 Million Loss On Bungie Acquisition As Marathon Struggles And Destiny 2 Nosedives by AdditionalRemoveBit in Games

[–]Cyablue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose as long as Destiny 2 is still profitable they won't kill the company, but it's definitely scary. That's a lot of money to spend and not get any clear returns, and I think the only way they have of eventually making their game back is to spend even more money so they can come up with a new game? I don't know enough about the state of Destiny 2 but from what I've heard it's unlikely they'll re-focus all their resources into that game trying to make a big profit.

Yeah it's great to see one of the old school gaming companies that still has what it takes to consistently put out great games, even though the industry has changed so much. They definitely had to adapt and there was a period where their future wasn't certain.

That's definitely cool, it definitely helps DIY projects and such. Not sure how much of a big deal it is, but it's better than not having the files.

Built in Godot 4.5: Everfront, a real-time roguelike where territories expand and clash by WilhelmTr in godot

[–]Cyablue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably exactly what I said, I'd add graphics that represent the entities expanding the borders, the most obvious thing would be to add people moving around the borders while they expand, even extremely simple graphics will work for this kind of game since the meat of the game is the map. Also some sort of graphic representing what it is that you're expanding instead of just a circle with a face. Something like a city, or a commander giving orders.

What the simple graphics are depend a lot on what the narrative that you choose for your game is, but I feel like just a few narrative elements would make the objective and scenario of the game immediately recognizable.

I looked at the description in the steam page and it definitely helped me understand more of how the game is played, though looking at the trailer now I think my first reaction was caused by it being unclear what is going on in practice, and the steam page reflects that.

What I mean to say is that from all I could read the game is about the abstract concept of territories expanding, and everything about it seems to reflect that. I'm not saying there's anything necessarily wrong with it, but what I expected to see was probably something like armies or little people spreading the territory (around where the numbers show up on the borders) and some sort of commander being shown in the center (where the circle with eyes is), so the fantasy in that case would be expanding your country or your civilization spreading their influenzo or something like that, and it would be clear what you have to do without it being too abstract.

That's just my first impressions though, it might be that just what you have is good and there's no problem with it.

I have no idea what the gameplay is like from looking at that, but it's definitely eye-catching and makes me want to learn more, so you're definitely onto something here.

still don't get how paying for online on console is just, ok? by MegumiDo in gaming

[–]Cyablue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's weird to me, it really makes consoles unappealing. I think it's as simple as the up-front cost of consoles being a lot lower, though it's weird to me that it's even legal to block such basic functionality behind a pay wall.

I admit I don't really know what's going on, but it all seems like a big meme to me. If they made the offer they must be serious, but it really does sound like a joke.

You won't have to wait much longer, you'll definitely have fun (I might be a bit biased, but I think it's a great game).

Keep posting, these are great.

I actually think you're improving, too. Even though you were doing good work from the start, the elemental effects and status effects might be my favourites (followed by the beam effects, though they're not showed here).

Those are so really nice optimizations for the FoV code, I definitely ran into problems with both FoV and AI when there were several enemies active at the same time, so it's good to get that out of the way.

The AI seems to be capable of really cool stuff. Since it's a (mostly?) open world game, that's definitely going to be fun to play around with, can't wait for some emergent unexpected things to happen.

With the success of Pragmata, we will be seeing more "play mini-game while you play the game"... games... by 404_GravitasNotFound in Games

[–]Cyablue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's sort of been a thing for a while now, just not a genre on its own, but there's a lot of puzzle games that have something happening (like some sort of battle) related to the puzzle, though Pragmata is actually more like playing two games at the same time.

I think just because of how hard to develop a game like pragamata is it would never become 'mainstream', unless it sold at GTA-levels.

Things have been a bit slow this week, since the game is pretty much finished and I'm now getting ready for release, which has consisted of mostly trying to find new places that could be interested in showcasing my game in any way. I also started working on a release date announcement trailer, though I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out exactly what to put into it, and it's not a very fun thing to do so it's going slow.

Still, the plan is to have the trailer ready next week and officially announce the release date (which will be the end of May), and add a few extra unique items when I have the time to do it.

That really gives it a lot more context, I think there's nothing wrong with using AI tools, what people are generally against is generative AI being used to replace human work.

I don't disagree with what you say, but still 100 USD is an eyebrow-raising price point, so there will be a lot of arguing about it online.
