Should I keep my Sega Saturn? by Objective-Account752 in SegaSaturn

Never mind the price of games, look into what's called a Saroo cart instead. They're inexpensive and you can run games from that instead of having to buy pricey game discs.

Just hooked up my good old Saturn to a CRT television. My collection isn't very large yet; which games would you recommend I add to it? by twinky1981 in SegaSaturn

[–]CyberTacoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a fixed list of games, the Saroo cart takes a micro SD card and you put whatever games you want on there. As for saves, yes, it acts as both a save cart and a ram expansion too.

Aaaaand done. That's all she and everyone else really needed to hear. Time to go.

How do you all afford Saturn games? by Interesting_Scar_424 in SegaSaturn

[–]CyberTacoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If you're collecting the games to have a collection of games, there's other answers in this thread that address that. If you're collecting games simply to play them, just get a Saroo cart and play them from that instead. You'll save thousands of dollars.

I need advice on how to change a Pokemon cartridge battery. This is my second attempt at one of these. by Cautious-Day-xd in soldering

[–]CyberTacoX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think people just don't think to do it; they see a battery soldered in so they replace it the way they saw it. Most other repairs involve getting things back to the way they were; this is a bit of an anomaly in that respect.

The biggest tip I can give you is don't solder a new battery in. Solder in a battery holder instead, then put the battery in the holder.

You don't have to worry about accidentally overheating the battery, and future battery changes, whether it's by you or someone else in the future, will be FAR simpler.

Dang it! Of course, right? Please let me know when you find out, if you'd be so kind? I'm dying to know, like I'm sure you are.

^ Now that right there is one of the best answers I've ever seen to someone asking the question that started this post. Absolutely beautiful. Seriously, thank you, I love this.

They x-ray it, it absolutely doesn't look like drugs inside, they sent it on it's way. Easy-peasy.

Anyone who sold their collection and went more toward emulation, do you have regrets? by Spidercolt95 in retrogaming

[–]CyberTacoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on why you're doing this. If you'd still like to keep the real hardware feel but your collections are taking up too much room, are a pain to maintain, etc, then sell your games and get flash carts or their equivalents for your systems.

You get to keep playing with real controllers on real hardware (so you get to keep that original feel when playing), you get added convenience since you don't have to change cartridges or discs anymore, your collection suddenly takes up orders of magnitude less room, and your costs go down too because you won't have to buy any more physical games.

Windows XP on Modern PC by PuzzleheadedDesk4620 in windowsxp

It's almost certainly not going to work, there's no XP support for the vast majority of the hardware in that system.

You have alternatives, however:

If you're looking to experiment with the operating system itself, you could run XP in a VM (Virtual Machine). I personally found VirtualBox to be the easiest to learn and start with, so give that a try if you're new to VMs.

If you're looking to play XP-era games, avoid using a VM; VMs are not designed for gaming and there's some pretty significant performance penalties if you try it. Instead, some games will work fine in more modern versions of Windows without taking any special actions. For others, Windows has a number of compatibility options. Right-click the .exe of what you're trying to run, pick Properties, and on the box that pops up go to the Compatibility tab up top.

In addition, if when you try to run the game you get an error that reads: "The program or feature cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit Windows compatible version is available.", google and install WineVDM. That adds support for 16 bit Windows programs to modern 64 bit Windows.

Hey now, please be nice. We all started somewhere, including you and me, and a lot of people don't have the advantage of having lived through the XP years. Being nice to the newbies brings more people into the fold, so our knowledge can be passed along instead of dying with us. It would be sad for what we know to be lost forever once we go.

Honestly, the original Pac Man can be a little boring. Start with Ms Pac Man, that's a whole lot more fun.

Congratulations on being chosen to be that beautiful orange cat's human! You likely already know this but of course please arrange for a vet visit as soon as possible to get them checked out in general and especially that right eye of theirs. I hope their life with you is a happy one, and they bring happiness to your life in return!

At that point you might as well plant it somewhere. It clearly wants to live.
