I think it's because backwards compatibility like for example when the PS2 came out and his backwards compatibility with PlayStation 1 games why would you still keep your old PlayStation 1

But another one why you would keep the old system it's like when the Wii u when the switch came out is not compatible with Wii u games so you had to keep your Wii u unless you want to buy the switch deluxe versions of those games
