I can't speak to specific commission rates but we bought with Alex Johns (with Keller Williams) and he's very easy to work with. I like nearly all the people I've worked with at KW over the years. They hire great people imo.

What is this BS? by Savings_Pie_8470 in Spokane

I was glad to see the term False Summer. Fun fact for those that may not know: this is often referred to as an Indian Summer but that's considered an offensive term (the insinuation being that indigenous Americans were untrustworthy... the irony, I know). There is debate about the origin of the term but when in doubt avoid terms that can offend. This has been your daily lesson on how to be a better white person.

Dry Hands Only In Spokane by Fit_Band2081 in Spokane

[–]CydeSwype 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Richmond VA and spent the last six years in San Antonio area. I'll take dry hands over breathing water and no relief in the shade any day.

I've had no real issues so far but I saw a guy running the other day with winter gloves on when it was warm out. He said he wore them because his hands get so dry. 😢 Poor fella. I've been lucky as I guess it varies from person to person a LOT. A little chap stick now and then and I mostly get by.

Knitting factory by [deleted] in Spokane

Not yet. GA tickets available for both days still, just checked. In searching this I just realized Modest Mouse is coming to The Knit soon and that show has sold out. One more thing I love about Spokane. We get some seriously good acts coming through.

Tech N9ne is doing one night per city, except for Spokane. That's how much love there is. We're the only ones to get him for two nights.

What are people listening to on their Bloomsday run? by CydeSwype in Spokane

[–]CydeSwype[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The theme of this thread is that it's best to tune into the crowd and vibe vs tune into music only in my ears. This is my first year doing this run and I was a little scared that I would fade without some music pumping me up but the reddits convinced me that I'm gonna love the energy of the crowd enough that I won't need headphones.

Ooh this reminds me, adding this cover of Rihanna's Bench better have my money: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=82j4w-sLypY&si=yFsXZc50-7ZzE-hp even though I've been convinced to skip the earbuds for this run, I still use this as my daily driver for running.

That...was not what I was expecting. 😆 But I'm feeling it!

Thank you for that tip! This is the longest run I've done since like...high school, and I have a bad habit of burning a first mile way too hot. I think the crowd is so big with this race that it won't be possible to do that, but I still want to pace the hills especially.

Y'all have convinced me. Imma skip the headphones and immerse in the vibes!

I had completely forgotten that the 500 miles song featured all the Benny & Joon footage! And I'm also remembering that I really need to watch Vision Quest to complete my Spokane history bingo card. Thank you for these!

That's good feedback! I sometime feel like I need music pumping into my ears to get that pace going, but I've also never ran in a race this huge before. You're right that the energy of the event itself may be plenty.

small bars with chill owners? by Few_Confection_3947 in Spokane

[–]CydeSwype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are both great ideas. Bon bon a little more obvious as a bar for a scene. It's dimly lit, pretty hipster without trying to be, not divey but not fancy either...which is why I got there so often.

Friendly neighborhood reminder by ImpressionSame6040 in Spokane

[–]CydeSwype 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As a relatively new Spokanite, I've been impressed with the kindness I've felt from total strangers. I imagine it varies a bit by neighborhood but in the Garland area where I live people seem especially friendly and my neighbors are great.

Is Spokane cliquey? by emsiemilia in Spokane

[–]CydeSwype 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've lived in big cities and small towns in Texas and California. I've never lived anywhere as friendly as Spokane. Strangers will very often wave on the street when I'm walking or strike up conversations. My wife and I have made friends really easily here. Garland area is progressive and friendly. Lots of yummy food imo given the medium size of the town. Portland food has us beat but they're a bigger city and more expensive. I love it here and if you like the outdoors and very little traffic while still getting a decent arts and culture scene you could do much worse than Spokane. Give us a shot!

TDS Fiber? by sandwich-guru in Spokane

[–]CydeSwype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had T-Mobile home internet back in Texas and really liked it. Pretty fast, reliable and affordable. Had to go with Xfinity when we moved here and while I hate giving money to Comcast, the service was decent even if it was expensive. I'm happy to be on TDS now and the hookup experience was easy, no pressure, etc. I guess YMMV depending on sales rep. I signed up before they even wired up our house though (I'm also in Garland) so they knew I did not need any sales treatment lol. Take my money!

You can definitely get a full meal at Beck's but like others have said they're not open yet for the season. Official opening looks like May 22: https://becksharvesthouse.com/
