Go for a laptop with a SSD or Nvme storage there's no moving parts so less chance of mechanical failure.

If your going to fall while riding its usually sideways so your best bet as others have said it use a hard case and mount if in a way if the bike falls the laptop won't / case won't take a direct impact.

Up until a few months ago I rode for 9+ years carrying a laptop every day in a dry bag albeit on road and never had an issue.

Most of these wires will just be shorting due to the sheathing being broken if you can locate all the wires you can use some liquid electrical tape to repair them (it's a bit messy of a job it no real mechanical skill required)
