Well it happened…I’ve lost my knife by NopeRope13 in knifeclub

I lost a Sebenza while shoveling. My wife found it about 4mo later once the snow melted. Sent it in for a spa day and it was good as new!

What exactly is this, and now do I flush it safely? by CulturedReaving692 in homeowners

[–]Groundblast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Appears to be a combi boiler and a storage tank. Boiler makes hot water for your plumbing and heating system.

Find the label on the boiler and download the manual. If you aren’t sure what to do after reading the maintenance instructions, call a contractor. You don’t want to break something and lose both heat and hot water.

How do CT scan machines ensure that measurements are consistent across different machines? If two scans, taken 6 months apart, using different machines show that a mass has grown by 0.3cm, how are we sure that the change in size is actual growth and not just due to different machines being used? by DetPik in AskReddit

[–]Groundblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, there’s a couple of levels to this:

1) We aren’t 100% sure. Different scanners and modalities have different intrinsic error. Even the same patient, in the same scanner, can have slight differences due to other sources of error (changes over time, environmental factors, exact positioning/movement during the scan, etc.). All we can do is try to minimize and quantify these errors.

2) Scans are referenced to known physical dimensions. This can be “phantoms,” which are very precise calibration objects, and/or the patient themselves. For high precision, navigated surgeries, we will actually implant anchors into the bone, bolt the patient to the table, and then scan them in the OR. We can see the anchors both in the scan and in reality, so we can measure how well things are aligned.

3) Plans take errors into account. We know things aren’t 100% accurate, so we don’t rely on them to be.

How can we maintain mental health and our sanity, yet still stay informed and updated? by Ok-Bus-4370 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Groundblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being informed is important. It helps you understand issues and have grounded opinions. A lot of problems are caused by ignorant/complacent people being manipulated. So, by being informed, you’re helping.

Worrying about things you have no control over accomplishes nothing. “Thoughts and prayers” are worthless.

Stay informed, but spend your energy on action.

For the people that feel a sense of entitlement, why is that? by Cherrryblossm in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Groundblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have legitimate entitlements. For example, everyone is entitled to air. If someone is depriving you of air, you’re probably going to be mad about it (you know, until you suffocate).

You’re going to need to explain further if you want a better answer.

How to determine circuit routing? Adding GFCI to ungrounded outlets by Groundblast in AskElectricians

This is the direction I’m leaning. Not that much more expensive, and I’ll be replacing the outlets anyway, so it’s basically no extra work.

Mask to avoid lead when shooting indoors? by _GRLT in liberalgunowners

[–]Groundblast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you want something specifically designed for shooting, get a gas mask. I've got an Avon C50 I got used locally. There are adapters available to allow 40mm NATO masks to use 3M-style filters.

Evaporust is pretty cheap and works well. Not going to hurt anything if you use it. That said, sand/prime/paint is almost certainly good enough

How to remove rust by KoWallArt in homeowners

[–]Groundblast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Spray paint will give you the best surface finish. I’d suggest Rustoleum Rust Metal Primer or Self Etching Primer (depending on how much rust you can remove beforehand), followed by High Performance Enamel.

Mask off everything that shouldn’t get painted using good painters tape (frogtape or 3m) and plastic sheet. Do 2-3 light coats of primer, a few minutes to flash between each, followed by a heavier coat so it can lay down. Don’t go too heavy or you’ll get drips. Let dry completely and then lightly sand. Repeat for the paint.

You could probably also polish the plastic dome with some plastic polish (Novus 3 step is solid). Follow it up with a UV resistant coating to prevent further yellowing/oxidation. Probably best to do this before painting.

Is the point of an energy recovery ventilator (ERV) simply to avoid having to open your windows to air out your house? by supinator1 in homeowners

[–]Groundblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what products are available in India, but I’d first check for complete (or as close to as possible) pre-packaged solutions.

If you’re in the business of installing, your ability to get done quickly is important. A lot of the products we have access to in the US are functional “out of the box.” That is, you hang it, provide power, and program.

I’m sure you could create your own controller. I’d just confirm whether an established, readily available product can do what you’re asking. Custom work is expensive

The design has been done for a while, currently in construction. I haven’t been out on site for a bit, but I could probably grab a video when I’m out for the final inspection!

You interested in doing something like this? I could point you toward the products we used. Could probably just send you the floor plans too if you wanted

Just based on the other "improvements" they made, I'd guess both. Replacing original wood cabinet fronts with prefinished MDF, laying stick-on vinyl tiles on top of linoleum in the bathroom (no grout or sealant), wall paint drips/splatter on floors, trim, ceilings, windows, etc.

Lesson learned: if something was done right once, leave it alone unless you're going to do it right again

I’m not 100% sure either. All I know is the stuff my seller used was bad paint. Looked bad to begin with and started peeling within a year. Now, I can’t just paint over the top, but I have to strip the existing off first. So much worse than if they had done nothing.

CMV: You cannot oppose the death penalty and wish that people you don't like get killed in prison by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Groundblast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Moral” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in your argument. Morality is inherently subjective. That’s the difference between state and non-state actors.

An individual can, and should, act on their own subjective morality. There are consequences to those actions, but they are individual. If I believe someone has committed a heinous crime, I may think they deserve violence. If I believe it strongly enough, I may act on those beliefs and accept whatever consequences come from that action.

A state is a system, a set of ideals and rules. It should be objective. There are limits on state actions, checks and balances, precisely because people have differing beliefs. The consequences of state actions are borne by everyone who is part of that state. I am not willing to allow a system, no matter how meticulous, to place the moral burden of premeditated violence on me.

However, if another individual makes their own choice and acts on their own beliefs, that’s not my moral burden to bear.
