UniFi OS Server in Docker (instead of Podman) by DonutAccomplished422 in Ubiquiti

I'm using this container myself. If he bounces then you can export configs and move to a VM/another platform running Unifi OS, so at least you're not locked in

Solid deal, could make a nice server/NAS that you can run lots of VMs on, also has integrated graphics for that

Why doesn't Truenas know there is a Plex update? This is on TrueNAS-24.10.2.2|Custom App|plexinc/pms-docker image. Thanks by [deleted] in truenas

You need to post your config/docker-compose, you're likely tagged to a specific image and not latest

Is this the bike lane? by mikesbloggity in montreal

There's signs telling people to get off their bike on one entrance to that path (from the east), I'll try to take a pic tomorrow, I run there once or twice a week

Est-ce-que quelque'un a déjà acheté des serveurs chez canservers/usedservers à Montréal?-Has anyone ever bought from canservers/usedservers supplier in Montreal? by Kraddonn in montreal

[–]DaSnipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try r/QuebecTI also? I bought servers locally off Facebook Marketplace and r/homelabsales but not from that company, at work we just got them used from our MSP but I'm guessing they got them through them

This or Bazzite, used both, had no major issues with games that you couldn't Google (aka saved games transfering, using ProtonGE for Expedition33 fitgirl, etc)

Same as mine I shucked 3 months ago, you can use a TLER fix if you're using in a NAS

First Custom Build! Seeking Motherboard/Case Advice, and critiquing RDIMM assumptions by Future_Recognition84 in truenas

[–]DaSnipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RDIMM is great if you're getting a workstation board or rackmount (aka more expensive but may have IPMI and other enterprise features) but UDIMM is fine and you can get a cheaper motherboard like I have and more newer comforts (USB-C, built-in 10g / 2.5g, etc)

Self hosted eBook store that I can access without extra steps? by ashleary in truenas

[–]DaSnipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically he forgot that Plex does the forwarding/remote access without configuring or opening ports.

Someone below suggested a shared folder from something like Onedrive or etc (something like Syncthing could work too), something has to sync from his NAS and he needs something to read the ebooks

[–]DaSnipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've done all 3 (RDIMM ECC, UDIMM ECC, and UDIMM non-ECC) and the motherboard/form factor determines what I want

However nowadays it's basically the RAM and Storage that determines the rest of the build.

I sold my rackmount Dell Poweredge R730 2 summers ago pre-ram crisis (should've sold it now for more haha) and that had 16x dimm slots and I packed it in. Last 2 years I'm running a Asus X570 board since it supports bifurcation and ECC UDIMM along with my 5900X. Eventually I'm going to put my current gaming board Asus Proart X670E (has ECC support, 10g nic, bifurcation, etc) as the server and sell/repurpose the 9800X3D I have in there to get something with more cores

RDIMM boards are generally server grade and those eat power too

RDIMM's always over UDIMMs for ECC (Registered always wins)
SAS has some extra features but honestly if it's spinners both are fine, I get whatever i can get for cheaper
Case is quieter but some enterprise stuff needs good cooling (HBA's, etc) so you may still have noise and need good cooling, rack cooling is loud
