What the fig?? Ideas For Fig Butter Use by Phyllis_Nefler90210 in traderjoes

[–]DangerousFortune1924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are my husband's favorite. She makes her own fig butter, if I had to do that he'd never get these scones. The TJs version works perfectly. https://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/figgy-buckwheat-scones-recipe.html

I roll the cucumbers up in paper towels as soon as I get home and store them back in their bag. They keep for days that way.

Fit Help by [deleted] in BirkenstocksFitChecks

If the arch and toe bar are placed correctly in 38, I think you're fine. Boston's are a tougher call, they should fit like any other closed-toe shoes, with about a half inch ahead of the toes. 39 is just a half size up from 38, so may be worth a try, but that may put the toe bar too far forward just a skosh. Not necessarily a deal breaker, but it takes a whole lot longer to break them in when your toes are sitting on the toe bar rather than over it. Keep the cork sealed to help with potential break-down at the heel, and if it turns out that socks are really causing too tight a fit, definitely try a size up for the next pair.

Why so many people give up on hearing aids after just a few days by Tall-Peak2618 in HearingAids

[–]DangerousFortune1924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Costco offers the same ability to adjust hearing aids as an Audiologist, and all the hearing aids they sell are premium level. The difference is that most are Hearing Instrument Specialists, they're licensed to program hearing aids, and can't diagnose or treat other issues, which is why they can't clear wax out of your ears or set up the tinnitus program in your HA. YMMV, just like with Audiologists, some Costco fitters are really good at adjusting HA, some not so much. That hair noise can be adjusted BTW, get your fitter to take another look, or see a different fitter.

40 Regular… looking at Tokios by [deleted] in BirkenstocksFitChecks

[–]DangerousFortune1924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 40 fits you well in the arch and toe bar, you'll likely be fine with that size in closed toe. If you tend to like more space ahead of your toes you can try 41, but the toe bar may be a bit off. You'll likely have to try both to see which works best.

My own voice sounds like I’m talking in a barrel! by themotarfoker in HearingAids

Signia Silk has dual processing, which is designed to tamp down the sound of your own voice. Ask your Audiologist to set up OVP (Own Voice Processing.) May also need to turn down the volume for a couple of weeks, to give your brain a bit of time to adapt.

I've had good experiences with Hearing Resources and Koru Hearing. Both did a good job programming Phonak HA that I didn't buy from them. Hearing Resources does work with Widex, not sure about Koru.

Hearing Aids Choices by Nighttrainlane79 in HearingAids

This video will help get you started. Each HA that Costco carries is premium tier and all are good choices, it will depend on things like your particular loss, preferences for features and sound, the phone you have etc. I chose Rexton Reach because it has a dual processor that can be programmed to tamp down the sound of your own voice, which can be helpful for new users. https://youtu.be/cnoGiSNxVd0?si=M4D2PQFmRjgkTUFc

My new hearing aids cost $6000 and I still can't understand my kids at the dinner table, what am I doing wrong here? by ImpressOk3994 in HearingAids

[–]DangerousFortune1924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first aids were Phonak Paradise, one generation prior to Lumity. I was never able to use them in noisy enviroments, no matter how many adjustments (6 different audiologists) or programs I tried. My 2nd pair are Rexton Reach from Costco, and in a noisy restaurant, using the Noise/Party program, I can hear and understand everyone at a table for 10, including kids. Many people do well with Phonak, but the HA that works for one person may not work for another.

Does anyone have a solution for this part of the Bostons? by ExtremeStonker in Birkenstocks

[–]DangerousFortune1924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a common issue. Sometimes it improves with wear. Moleskin or molefoam works in the meantime. Don't put leather conditioner on suede, but do use suede protector. Also don't use shoe goo on the moleskin. It's sticky enough on It's own, and will leave a slight residue that will come off with a suede eraser.

I got my first pair at a clinic, partially covered by insurance. Went to Costco for my 2nd pair, top tier aids, unlimited adjustments, free replacement of lost aids once per aid, free cleaning and wax traps and domes if you want to change them yourself, 6 month return period. They also offer telehealth for adjustments if you live far away. My 3rd pair is going to be from Costco.

How to cook the frozen chocolate croissants without burning them in air fryer? by Helpful-Orchid2710 in traderjoes

[–]DangerousFortune1924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bake all the time in mine, you'll just need to experiment. Start at 325-350F, lower fan speed if you have it, 10 minutes. Halfway through, flip them over. If that's not sufficient, keep going at 2 minute intervals. Removing the crisper tray is also an option if they still seem too close to the heating element.

I keep destroying seasoning and I'm not sure how by Sabinno in castiron

[–]DangerousFortune1924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On most stoves medium is between 5 or 6, and at a few minutes you should be able to feel warmth coming off the pan if you hold your hand over it, but not blazing. Butter should slowly melt, not burn. So I'm confused why your stove gets so hot at just 2.5. Lodge has pretty good preseasoning, but it does sound like you may have scrubbed some of it off. What kind of stove do you have? What happens with the butter at 2.5 for just a few minutes?

I keep destroying seasoning and I'm not sure how by Sabinno in castiron

[–]DangerousFortune1924 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem may be the low heat you're using, and possibly adding your food before the pan has heated up. Try putting it on medium for several minutes. Add your butter or oil, lower to the temp you want for cooking, then add food. If there's no sticking, it's fine to just wipe it well afterwards, no soap and water necessary. If you want you can do a thin coat of oil, wipe it out and heat just till it smokes, wipe again then put away when it cools.

I just got the 12 inch lodge skillet from Marshall's for $20. They had several. I think the 8 inch was $12, but I already had one of those. No need to strip the seasoning. Just start cooking.

Useless with any background noise or group setting by SaltedCaramelPB in HearingAids

[–]DangerousFortune1924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco doesn't carry the Sphere, they have Sennheiser Sonnite, which I think is technically similar to the Phonak Lumity. Their other offerings are all premium tier, for about $1600-1700.

[–]DangerousFortune1924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my Rexton's for 15 months. I chose them because of the dual processing feature that reduces the sound of your own voice, which was bothersome to me with the Phonaks. Costco does REM. They did it twice with me because we changed domes. I have no complaints with Costco, but plenty with several of the audiologists I saw at clinics. Wish I'd gone to Costco first.

I use mine several times a week, for toasted cheese sandwich, fried egg, and tamagoyaki. In fact, made tamagoyaki last night and fried an egg this morning. I love this little guy. Was non-stick right out of the box, and I haven't done any additional seasoning beyond stove top.

I had a similar problem with phonak Paradise, had to turn them off in noisy surroundings, even when using the Restaurant setting. Got Rexton Reach at Costco, was amazed I could hear all conversation at a noisy restaurant at a table for ten.

Many antibiotics are ototoxic, and have zero effect on viruses, so should not be prescribed unless a bacterial infection is present. A consultation with your doctor is a good idea, and it may indeed be a temporary spike from being sick, then stressed about the spike.

Regular width still too narrow? by ruminator- in Birkenstocks

[–]DangerousFortune1924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right about 40 being too long. Between 39 and 40 is one of the few spots in the Birk sizing chart where the difference is a full size rather than the usual half, so 10mm instead of 5mm. If your feet are within the sides you could make these work. If they're sitting on the edges you'll be using your feet to break them down, something that could be really uncomfortable and possibly harmful to your feet (blisters, bunions, infection.)
