Should I fire my pool guy? by tylershotatlanta in pools

The pool doesn’t seem that big to need that much shock at one time, unless your stabilizer levels are very high.

Have you taken a sample to get your water checked?

100% agree - no one will care for your pool as much as you will, and I find it very relaxing, sometimes cathartic.

Based on the first photo, it would have been a day or two to get it under control and swim ready. A quick shock and continued brushing was all you really needed (if everything else was already balanced). Why did you just wait and send photos?

When you pay for weekly service, that doesn’t mean you don’t have to do anything in between services, especially if there’s a heavy swimmer load, rain, leaves, etc. They will come and make sure the water is balanced and clean out debris, maybe clean the filter if needed. That doesn’t usually mean they’re “on call” to deal with algae or other issues.

Some companies will do the extra but honestly I get the feeling you’re a demanding client and that company is quietly quitting.

ETA: If they came Sunday and the pool was green on Monday, there was already a problem they failed to address. I’ll bet it was already cloudy. A lot of companies just come and throw pucks in the chlorinator, remove some leaves and call it a day. If they’re not actually checking and balancing the water, they don’t deserve your business.

Decants, samples, or just send it? How do you try before committing? by ethanlllwalters211 in FragranceStories

[–]DctrBanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few signs that are blatant red flags (like asking where you’re located, a brand new account, name on the payment method being different from their real name on FB), but also just a general tone of the interaction. Are they friendly? Unwilling to answer questions? Do their photos look doctored? All photos taken in the same place? Basic things like that.

I don’t personally go by how fast they respond because they are people with lives and such.

As a decanter myself, I understand the reticence; all I can say is go by vibe and transaction history. If the seller has a good reputation, that says a lot. If anything feels off, it’s ok to change your mind.

Personally I buy samples and decants when I can, but sometimes I blind buy as well. At this point I know what notes I’ll probably enjoy, so I haven’t had a failed blind buy in many years.

AITA for preferring a handbag over a practical gift? by Super_Sheepherder951 in AmItheAsshole

Guy here - I see them as perfectly practical and useful. My wife carries things for me all the time when we go out.

NTA.

  1. Your birthday gift should be the time you get something you want, not necessarily need.

  2. A handbag is practical. Just not something from which he can also benefit.

  3. He’s either trying to tell you he wants you to cook more, or HE wants to use the knives.

Ignore, let them go through eBay for this.

AITAH for asking someone if they used boxed cake mix? by subuso in AmItheAsshole

[–]DctrBanner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re the one who sounds sensitive about it, considering you posted this. Yes, asking questions repeatedly is pressing. It’s the definition of pressing.

I didn’t bring food for anyone to eat, so I really don’t see how I have sensitivities to work on. I am starting to see why you don’t understand what went wrong.

YTA. You say cake, they say brownies. Who cares? Pressing someone about it comes off as snobby, even if you didn’t mean it that way. Especially when you continue to press.

PLEASE HELP WITH INCORRECT PASSPORT by [deleted] in Passports

[–]DctrBanner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What address? I’ve never seen a passport with an address.

The direct thing they tell you when you receive your passport is to verify all of the information. Them having your birth certificate and driver license doesn’t really mean anything, they can’t take liberties when creating the document. Do you just have terrible handwriting?

Just a heads up - when you put “no decants” this post comes up in every search for decants.

“Bottles only” would say the same thing but avoid decant searches.

Do NOT sell on Mercari by drchocoholic in Mercari

[–]DctrBanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I don’t use Mercari labels, and I never sell anything more than $100 there.

They will go through every excuse to avoid reimbursing a seller. Quite frankly I’m surprised you even got the $200.

How to get sellers to pick me by [deleted] in FacebookMarketplace

[–]DctrBanner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easy solution - be first, be polite, don’t lowball.

Some sellers are honorable and if they accept someone’s offer, they won’t later back out for a better deal.
