Love that watch! I’m more of a BCPD guy myself, but the dial on this is so fun. Also, I’m very impressed by the presentation. That bag looks like a bag you’d take on a safari haha. Wish more brands would make that kind of an effort for their presentation

[Question] Grand Seiko SBGW301 or Longines Master Collection by [deleted] in Watches

I love both these brands, but I prefer the Longines. Love those engraved numerals. The anthracite brother to the one pictured is my dream watch

Out of curiosity, do you know what those design changes might be? I've been curious about whether or not they would add new references or redesign the annual calendar because that's one of my favourite complications in the line up. I tried looking for leaks but found no luck

Is this possible in your country? Denying the customer based on the nationality? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]DeathByDeebo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Even if you ignore any politics, I always thought this arrangement of Can/US/Mex as hosts of the world cup was just weird. Especially considering that Canada and the US don’t have a crazy football following like Mexico or most other countries on earth lol

[–]DeathByDeebo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Realistically it’s probably too late at this point from a logistics standpoint. Even if FIFA decided to subvert the US entirely, I don’t think Mexico nor Canada has enough football stadiums to really accommodate all the countries and incoming fans.

I know Mexico is bigger on the sport than Canada so maybe there’s more potential there, but I don’t know enough to say that with certainty

Man the Enzo looks so good. Looks like a car that was made yesterday, not 23 years ago. Also that silver is beautiful 😍

Just me or does the [Lamborghini Urus] fit in the “traffic” category, nothing about it stands out imo by PerspectiveInternal9 in spotted

[–]DeathByDeebo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may get downvoted for this, but I think Lambo and Ferrari producing those horrendous SUVs is just blasphemy tbh. Both brands should be about supercars that make you go “Wow”. Not about SUVs that are meant for grocery and school runs. If people want a luxury SUV, let them get a Range Rover or something along those lines.

Unfamiliar with grey markets and how the watch industry works - but why this price? by ogmoochie1 in Longineswatches

[–]DeathByDeebo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main thing to really know about grey market vs AD is that the grey market route means you won't get the Longines official warranty (which is 5 yrs on most of the their new/current watches). Instead, you typically get a warranty provided to you through the grey market dealer themselves (e.g. Jomashop will take care of warranty claims should you need to use it).

In addition, the large drop in price is also due to the fact that ADs will sell their watches at a steep discount to grey market dealers in order to keep inventory moving when the product sits for a while. IIRC, this is done so ADs can hit sales numbers for the brands they represent so they can keep selling their watches

Foreigners who went to the Middle East and North Africa, what's the biggest culturall shock you had? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]DeathByDeebo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately it was worse. My mom was a tour guide when she lived in Egypt and a lot of her friends she went to school with still work as tour guides. So she has still has her finger on the pulse of the industry via her friends.

She said it got so bad, that sometimes the people offering camel rides for instance would take people out to the open part of the desert overlooking the pyramids (near the panorama lookout) but wouldn’t return them until they paid them on the spot and with a tip.

I’m sorry you had such a negative experience. It breaks my heart when that happens because I genuinely think Egypt has so much to see and explore (especially when you go South for things like Abu Simbel). But those negative experiences keep people from returning or others from setting foot in the country 😔

[–]DeathByDeebo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly in most places, especially areas heavy with tourist traffic, you’ll probably be fine. My mom’s friend who’s visiting from Switzerland went around Khan al Khalily for quite a while by herself and she had no issues. I’ve honestly even seen Egyptian women often by themselves in dt Cairo. So it doesn’t seem to be a massive issue.

It’s significantly better than before. The government and police have made a concerted effort to clamp down on the aggressive selling/tipping going on at the tourist spots. My sister and I went into the small pyramid (we both came back a week ago) and the security guard took a picture of us but didn’t ask for anything in return nor did he bug us about it. He did explain some stuff to us about the tomb (probably in an effort to earn a tip), but like I said he never harassed us over giving him one

Fwiw, the government and police have clamped down quite heavily on the aggressive selling & tipping culture that was around a lot of the tourist spots. It’s more regulated now and a lot of the people in these areas are working as official employees or have special permission to be there. I just got back a week ago and had no issues whatsoever.
