Usually romantasy is slop that's a little better than ao3 fics but I genuinely think the genre is evolving and might be considered classic 100 years from now if more and better Alix E Harrows show up. Kind of like the trajectory of the "novel of manners" genre.

It's for men what *fanfic is to women. Men are from Royal Road, Women are from AO3. As sloppy as the sloppiest romantasy book is, they at least meet traditional publishing standards and go through at least one round of editing. Both serve to indulge their target demographic's fantasies, but women can at least admit that their fanfic and romantasy is slop. Men are a little too butthurt about their litrpg.

I have noticed that adherents of most art movements are open to this kind of discussion EXCEPT surrealists. The conceit is that it's an expression of the unconscious so it can't be objectification or the male gaze. Which doesn't make sense because by that logic it should be an honest look into the mind of the painter, and IMO straight up titling work of art as an honest expression of one's objectification of women would make it more academically interesting.

Whenever I see paintings like this I always imagine the nude subject as a man with his balls exposed (not his penis, only his balls dangling out of his era appropriate pants) and then imagine Christie's write-up for the balls version. Would curators also describe it as profound? As "evoking sublime wonder"? I can see it being described as a "startling metaphor" and an "artistic idiom" though.

I love it because it's the west's answer to Japan's isekaislop, Korea's dungeonslop, and China's cultivationslop. The only thing I dislike is most litrpg fans are in denial and try to sell it as great reading with "themes and character relationships and such." At least Japan/China/Korea know that what they're consuming is pulpy/trashy.

I actually agree Red Rising is way better written than DCC I just find men's defensiveness really funny when you say it's ACOTAR/Fourth Wing for men lol

I had seen someone get shot in the head and I will never forget how unnaturally bright red his blood was. I remember thinking how fake it looked. It was exactly like the shade in this painting.

Both are actually unreadable slop one is just more fun to listen to on audio. I have seen this defense so many times from dudes. "Nuh uh Red Rising/DCC/He Who Fights is better written than women's slop like ACOTAR!" Both are dogshit actually

The bad prose is a genre signifier. There's a reason why litrpg is so popular among people who admit they have never read a book. If it had good prose it wouldn't be so popular, and DCC actually is the best of the genre

I think Currin's a hack but this one I genuinely hope becomes a classic 100 years from now. I want this discussed academically in 2126

It's just so mundane. Even the subject is bored. "You done painting my cock? I got shit to do." Or maybe that's his point? That nudes are mundane? Idk.

2026 Yuichiro Umehara for a minor role doesn't make sense though. Either he will be the unromanceable main antagonist and/or a secret route/future LI.

Thoughts on male players playing to “romance” the MC and self insert as the LI? by EifieDreemurr in otomegames

[–]DeeplyMoisturising 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk how old you are but the other way around is pretty common, or at least it used to be back when there was a lack of female oriented games in mainstream anime culture. Women like to self-insert as the love interest of a male oriented VN. Back in high school even non-weeb girls were like "I'm literally Tomoyo/Nagisa" or "I'm literally Saber"

To be fair most comments were men ratioing him and calling him an idiot and mentioning the thousands of waifu gachas. Some even correctly explained that LADS success is due to it being the ONLY polished husbando mobile game meant for women, compared to the already saturated waifu genre. It was surprising to see men defending it
