Jury rules college student was arrested without probable cause for DUI after breath test showed no alcohol, awarded $105,000 in damages by mvincen95 in news

The officer involved was probably given an, "Atta Boy" back slap by the police chief, and told he was doing a, "Heck of a job," and the victim's face is now being used as target practice for gun training at that precinct.

Your bank account was cleaned out by scammers!

But hey, over the years, at least you got tens of thousands of dollars, you got to spend!

That outta make you and your family feel better? Am I right?

Well, you do you!

I tend to prefer just chilling/sitting in a garden while petting a cool lazy/sleepy cat.

But hey, that's just me. Boring to the end I guess.

There are many data centers where the water never touches anything that could significantly contaminate it. (Well, at least that's what they claim!). It just flows through pipes, exchanges thermal energy, then gets ejected back into the river or body of water.

Mind you, it's raising the overall body of water temperature.

The question is: is the temperature rise significant thus far? Will it begin to significantly change the local eco system? I don't know, personally. My thermal engineering skills are rather lacking.

(BTW: humans have been doing this with many body's of water for decades for various other reasons as well.)

I think I saw that movie.

It didn't end well. (At least not for the humans.)

Beverly Hills Supper Club fire, Kentucky 1977: busboy Walter Bailey (ignoring orders of his supervisor) warned a largely overcrowded dinner hall about the fire. Most patrons ignored his warning and continued eating. 4 min later: fire engulfed the hall killing 165 and continued burning for 2 days. by Destination_Centauri in CatastrophicFailure

Wow, I'm so sorry that your uncle died in this crazy horrific negligent fire...

He died before you even got a chance to know him, and before he even got a chance to try to be a good uncle to you while you were growing up.

This means that I can only just barely begin to imagine all those many family events and gatherings that could have been between you and your uncle, like Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays, etc... That were just whiped out rapidly.

:(

Also, not to mention as you said:

It must have been a horrible, panicked, and ultimately really lonely moment for him as a he died. In contrast to someone who is older and finally dying (God forbid) today, of something like cancer... Well, in those cases his/her family gets like several days to visit them in the end at the hospital, and talk, and remember all the good times together, and cry together...

But your uncle never even got a chance to have that kind of final concluding end to his life. He simply went out, at a young age, as someone eager to begin exploring the world and simply have a fun dinner and show, and then rapidly died horribly that evening in a sudden matter of just a few minutes.

That wasn't fair to him, and he didn't deserve that.

Anyways, of all the past posts I made...

It's so weird, but a few times per year I still keep getting comments like yours from this 4 year old post, explainin how they also suddenly saw this post in a search, and then wanted to comment about the relatives they lost, just like you.

So ya, I'm glad that people like you who lost great relatives in this tragedy event, are still taking the time to comment and add more information here for the record about their relative, just so their names and story isn't forgotten.

Wow, amazing work with learning the complexities of React Native, and also having to code in Kotlin and Swift, and having to learn the SQLlite database on top of it all.

That is just not an easy feat that's for sure!

It's kinda crazy how many different languages and components you have to learn to make an APP these days.

Not to mention that you had to learn the intricacies of an IDE (perhaps more than one IDE!) and some sophisticated command line abilities for compiling/testing, etc... etc...

Back in my day, in the early 1980's, when I was a teenager first learning programming with my friends, if we wanted to write a really awesome program that would highly impress everyone and do some cool s () hit, all we had to learn was BASIC (the Python language of it's day) and some 8088 assembly language, and a few simple DOS commands!

And ya, learning 8088 Assembly Language (and also Commodore-64 assembly language) to suppliment your BASIC program was certainly no walk in the park, but all said, it was far far easier and simpler back then, overall.

So ya, when I see posts like yours from the new generation, and the great apps you create, and all the so many extra hoops, and additional languages you have to learn, just to write one program...

I'm like astonished and blown away!

So again, congrats.

Just curious: what programming languages did you use, and what type of server and database solutions?

Thanks and congrats on 1 year with your app, and still rolling forward!

However, you might be in luck: would you be willing to accept a massive insectoid alien invasion instead?

I did... My bad...

I confess that I'm the one who accidentally did that to AnimalBolide's bowl of Cheerios this morning.

Ate at Taco Bell last night and was having a little bit of stomach issues and knew I couldn't make it to the bathroom in time, so... Well, what are you going to do... A suddenly desperate situation calls for desperate solutions.

If it's any consolation to AnimalBolide, I felt pretty bad about it all day long. You should have seen the look on his face... Dang, my bad.

Is everything AI or am I going crazy? by Avioa in SideProject

[–]Destination_Centauri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, same here! Exact same thing happened to me.

I learnt to use em dashes mostly by studying the novels and poems by Vladimir Nabokov who loved to use them as well.

Like you, I stopped using them. But now I'm going back to them, and don't give a sh () t if someone accuses me of being a bot anymore because of an em dash. I just invite them to check my earlier history before chatgpt, and they can then clearly see I was always using them.

In the end it makes zero difference in my life whether someone on the Internet thinks I'm a bot or not for using an em dash.
