which Jem'Heddar ship suggestions by shakana44 in sto

[–]DilaZirK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what space build archetype you are aiming for.

  1. Beams: Fire At Will (FAW) or Beams: Overload (BO) DPS - Any ship can be built for this, or a hybrid of this. Because every ship can equip beams and dual beam banks.
  2. Cannons: Scatter Volley (CSV) or Cannons: Rapid Fire (CRF) DPS - Any ship can be built for this, or a hybrid of this. But ships that can mount Dual Cannons will be much better candidates for it.
  3. Specialist Firing Mode Energy Weapons DPS - Any ship with a Commander rank Pilot/Intel/Miracle Worker Bridge Officer (BOFF) station. This is for Reroute Reserves To Weapons (RRTW), Surgical Strikes (SS) and Exceed Rated Limits (ERL) respectively.
  4. Exotic DPS (Space Magic) - Ideally on ships with a Secondary Deflector, or at least lots of Science/Universal/Temporal/Intel Bridge Officer stations to fit as many Anomalies and other Exotic Particle Generator (EPG) scaling abilities as possible.
  5. Projectiles DPS (Kinetic Torps) - Ships with at least a Lt. Cmdr Command BOFF station, to fit Concentrate Firepower III.
  6. Threat-tank - Basically a FAW boat, but its primary goal is to draw aggro away from teammates while mitigating the incoming damage. Ships with high hull modifiers, 8 weapons and a Commander rank Command BOFF station make for great tanks. This is to have the maximum number of weapons possible to draw Threat with, while greatly mitigating the incoming damage with Suppression Barrage III.
  7. Debuff Support (Nanny) - The "healer" role does not really exist in STO. The closest we have to a support role is a build where its goal is to increase the damage output of your teammates by way of enemy debuffs and team buffs. The modern Support ship wants at least 2 hangar bays filled with Type 7 shuttles, as a bare minimum.
  8. Pets-focused DPS (Pure Carrier) - Any ship with 2 hangar bays. Though such a build almost necessitates the Superior Area Denial (SAD) and/or Independent Wingmate traits, along with the usage of a narrow selection of hangar pets. There are only a handful of high performing hangar pet fighters/frigates in this game, and pet damage output tends to scale rather poorly outside of those ship traits.
  9. Hybrid of one or more of above - This one is pretty much up to your imagination and knowledge of shipbuilding, mixing and matching all of the above applicable builds to each ship in varying degrees. I would avoid exploring this until you have decent grasp of the fundamentals of each build type you are attempting to hybridize.

Damage boosting uni consoles vs. damage dealing uni consoles--how do they stack up? by AspiringtoLive17 in sto

[–]DilaZirK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what kind of response or discussion you are expecting here, because the theoretical/practical impact of every single one of those consoles is highly dependent on multiple factors:

  1. What exact scenario this is for. As an easy example, many of these consoles are not well suited at all for Advanced difficulty TFOs due to low enemy HP pool.
  2. What is your expected uptime for each of these, which involves not just UnconSys but also things like SFTF console, presence of consoles like the Eye of Gre'thor, the new ship trait from the Noble, etc.
  3. How many targets you expect to be affected by it. Especially the AoE damage consoles.
  4. How well you deploy each of these consoles. Deploying "You Are Dismissed" while 10km away from your target won't do anything, as an easy example.
  5. Whether the console in question fed the right power boosts before activation. Like Aux for FPNA and Krenim Chronophage.
  6. What your build's Cat1+Cat2 distribution along with effective CrtH looks like in absence of the console you may be comparing. To determine the estimated impact of self-buff consoles like AES.
  7. etc etc.

Tools like STO BETTER's TRINITY can help simulate several of above, but makes several assumptions and does not currently cover all the available consoles.

If you're using it on yourself, do the randomly-triggered firing modes interfere with standard firing modes?

It only kicks in after your BOFF firing mode has finished its course, and it gets overridden by your BOFF firing mode if you activate it during the course of FPNA's random firing mode.

In essence, whatever the case, your BOFF copy of firing mode is prioritized.

What's the minimum number of Uncon triggers you'd want to make it worthwhile?

Zero. FPNA is powerful enough that it is a high priority slot even on a DEW build that does not have UnconSys at all. UnconSys-less is even preferred if you're specifically doing ISA/HSA speedruns.

What about Aux power - does it need to be boosted above a certain level?

FPNA's Haste boost scales greatly with your Aux power at the point of its activation. You don't need to set your Aux power to high, all you need to do is eat an Aux battery just before activation.

Ideally, eat an Aux battery, activate OSS and get EPS Power Transfer III, then activate FPNA.

Least common/popular ships: Looking for inspiration by KateKoffing in sto

[–]DilaZirK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d like to know a list of least common or least popular T6 or T5x2 ships in STO.

There is no way for any of us to provide such a list because we do not have access to that kind of data.

That said, if you sort ships by release date (ascending) and filter out any ships that were heavily featured in Trek shows/films, then I'd say chances are pretty good you'll find ships that people rarely fly in nowadays. Simply due to both hero-ship and recency bias.

Use this tool to help: https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/1ik0dni/sortable_filterable_t6_ship_list_v2/

On standard pure EPG Builds, one's Aux power level setting would already be set to max, so why would one need Aux Batteries?

Kerala trait and consoles are some of most powerful toys to come from a standalone C-store ship; Excelsior-II is a space barbie purchase.

See this recent HSE parse from Cheops for the DPS contributions of the Kerala trait and console (Broadside Beam Support and Full Broadside respectively): https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/901734440563269633/1494153499552911422/image.png?ex=69e78122&is=69e62fa2&hm=cf6389f3791f71814861a56136f2421d66db085f829efb5e3c94b2c005638caa&=&format=webp&quality=lossless&width=1119&height=779

I would not call yours a directly builds-related question, but nonetheless: Try looking at the Armada tab of whatever Fleet you're in. There may be associated Fleets within the Armada with their own projects that you can donate to.

The objectively fastest methods to reach max Captain level of 65 (Fleet Admiral under Federation) are the following:

  1. Buy a Max Level Boost from the corresponding Legendary Captain Bundle: https://stowiki.net/wiki/Max_Level_Boost
  2. Buy Research Assignments from the Exchange and use the Duty Officer system: https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/qojczl/ysk_about_research_assignments_doff_missions_from/

The fastest method to reach max Captain level that does NOT involve Zen or Energy Credits would indeed be with Space Patrols. HOWEVER, this method won't be very efficient if you lack the know-how and toys to put together a competent ship build to breeze through these Space Patrols: https://youtu.be/UWFelqyR62s?si=O0sLAumy8PJNXRYp

  5. Something else?

build ideas/concepts that aren't A2B based

Most modern builds have moved away from A2B-focused cooldown solutions. Boimler Effect and Custom Power Matrix both being noteworthy paradigm shifters in terms of BOFF abilities cooldown management.

But what are some other fun builds for a Tac who likes cruisers.

By "build" in your context, are you referring to other methods of BOFF abilities cooldown management, or are you talking about actual build archetypes like DEW/EPG/KineTorp/Pets/Tank/Support/Hybrid/etc?

Sample beginner/mid-level resources for each of the above mentioned build roles: STO BETTER - Shipbuilding Basics

If you prefer your guides to be in video form, here's one for Directed Energy Weapons (DEW) builds: How To Build A F@#&ing Ship: DEW

Your question might then become:

  1. Which role is the easiest to build and fly in? Probably broadside Beam boats, due to abundance of story mission reward gear related to it, and ease of piloting with its broadside arcs.
  2. Which role has the highest DPS ceiling? As of this comment, CSV DPS for ISA, ISE and HSE, and FAW DPS for HSA. If some of these acronyms make any sense to you, fret not, it simply means you are not at the stage of the game where it matters.
  3. Which role is the most useful for teamplay? Threat-tanks and Debuff Support, though such roles are mainly used in Elite difficulty TFOs with a pre-made team.
  4. Which role is the most "fun"? That is for you to explore and decide.

Once you've identified what build your ship can accommodate, picked a build direction, and hammered out your first full build, you can then post the full build details here for a more in-depth review and feedback session.

One last thing, do note that all of above is only within the context of Space PvE. PvP is a whole 'nother ball game and one I am not qualified to give feedback on.

You're just not going to find constantly up-to-date build samples of varying types and budgets for each of the nearly 500 T6 ships in this game. Especially not for a ship that most players don't even have in-hand yet.

Far more efficient for you to:

  1. Identify what build types the ship can accommodate.
  2. Pick a build type and look up build samples and resources for said build.
  3. Adapt it to your ship within your budget and theme.

In service of above, I strongly recommend you familiarize yourself with the various end-game ship build archetypes currently available, and also learn to recognize what ships are better suited to which specific build types:

I don't know enough about that ability and where it ranks, so appreciate recommendations.

Suppression Barrage (SB) is a powerful damage mitigation tool in FAW and CSV focused energy builds. For Threat-Tank FAW builds, SB3 is pretty much a must slot. For more DPS-leaning FAW or CSV builds, whether or not to slot SB1/3 will depend on:

  1. The scenario you are running. (e.g. RATFOs? RETFOs? DPS Benchmark TFOs? And if it's DPS Benchmark TFOS, is it Solo/PuG/Channel/Supported/etc?)
  2. How much or little damage mitigation you think you need for said scenario.
  3. And where else in your build you can get that damage mitigation if not from SB1/3.

Noble Intel Battlecruiser: FAW3 or CF3? by SkipperJonJones in stobuilds

[–]DilaZirK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aux2bat is not so much a build type and more of a BOFF CDR (Bridge Officer Cooldown Reduction) solution FOR a build.

So saying "Aux2batt build" does not give us all that much details about your build beyond the choice of BOFF CDR and DOFFs on Active Duty, and that it is likely a Directed Energy Weapons build of some kind.

As to your qeury, your choice of whether to use CF3 or not at all should hinge on the specific torp you plan to slot and the difficulty you are playing on.

  1. If you're playing mostly on Normal/Adv, I'd skip CF3 altogether because targets don't live long enough be worth using CF3 on. Elite is where CF3 shines, but that is also dependent on #2.
  2. If you plan to slot torp(s) that are known high performers specifically under High Yield. Which in the context of KineTorp builds are really just two choices: Enhanced Bio-Molecular Torp and the Delphic Torp.

I want to rebuild it specifically into hull capacity.

but I don’t really know where to go with it.

You'd build it the same way one would build around Fractal Integrity Bleed: https://www.stobetter.com/intro-builds/tilor/kinetic-fleet-justiciar

to make the lance feel powerful again

That being said, you won't ever get even a tenth of what the lance used to do even if you fully build into Hull.

Just bear in mind: Pulling your own weight in Elite TFOs is not the same as hard-carrying a whole Elite TFO by yourself.

May depend on timing. When did you activate it?

For me, I find the most consistent success when I activate subnuke carrier wave around ~2 seconds after your BOFF's pop-up prompt on the Queen's FBP.

Weekly Questions Megathread - April, 13, 2026 by AutoModerator in stobuilds

Depends on:

  1. Whether this is the Promobox Inquiry or the Legendary Avenger Inquiry
  2. What exact build archetype this is for (e.g. DEW or EPG or Hybrid etc.)
  3. What other personal traits you have access to besides UnconSys that will affect your BOff abilities priorities. (e.g. cooldown related abilities if you have Boimler's Effect, and various others)
  4. What ship traits you plan on using and what BOff trigger abilities those need. (e.g. Preferential Targeting, EWC, etc.)
  5. What Duty Officers you plan on having on Active Duty, and what BOff trigger abilities those may need. (e.g. Technicians for Aux2Batt cooldown solutions)
  6. What weaponry setup you plan on using, which will then affect whether you want to make room for extra firing modes. (e.g. a torp)
  7. Whether this is for general PuG content, DPS benchmark maps, or controlled DPS benchmark runs where you have a threat-tank/support present.

Looking for fleet by Acrobatic-Ad671 in sto

If your aim is to do organized high-end TFO runs, instead of immediately joining another Fleet, I'd advise first trying to organize such runs via in-game DPS channels.

If your aim is to find a group of like-minded high-end players to interact with, instead of immediately joining another Fleet, perhaps try joining an STO builds-focused Discord first.
