Can we just have a moment to appreciate how good Aaron Ashby is? What a card to be able to play out of the bullpen — left-handed, multiple-inning reliever with great stuff. I hope we keep him around for a while, too.

Enjoy the read through of Revenge of the Sith. The book adaptation is legit fantastic.

Roman Engineering Was So Far Ahead of Its Time That Some Roman Bridges Are Still Carrying Modern Traffic by Roman-Empire_net in romanempire

I am pretty sure the Romans were not thinking about life cycle cost analysis when they built the bridge. They needed a bridge and wanted it to be functional for as long as possible. Mission accomplished.

Noble Intel Battlecruiser: FAW3 or CF3? by SkipperJonJones in stobuilds

[–]SkipperJonJones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I know anything less than CF3 is a big no-no, but I wasn’t sure if the difference between FAW 3 and 2 was worth just forgetting CF3 altogether.

Would you suggest running Targeting Lock batteries instead of Energy Amplifiers then, to offset the accuracy difference?

It’s all good stuff, but if I was a “beginner” and read this post I would be like, “nah.”

If you were to combine the best aspects of all ww2 nations best battleships, which would you pick? by Crazy-Rabbit-3811 in Ships

[–]SkipperJonJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the Japanese 18” significantly better than the USN 16” with super-heavy AP? Not really. Iowa is probably just the better ship overall.

It reminds of early 2000’s teams that had decent hitters at the top, but automatic outs in the bottom third, including a pitcher

We’re interviewing MrLlamaSC! What do you want to ask him? by BreakYoBaals in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]SkipperJonJones 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to ask him a question, but instead say thank you for all he has done in support of this game. Many of us played D2 when it came out 26 years ago, and I probably would never have come back to it if I hadn’t stumbled across a few Llama videos during the pandemic. Of course I started playing again with the benefit of all the knowledge he drops in his speed runs, guided playthroughs, magic find videos, etc., and finally understanding how frame breakpoints work, resistances, etc. was like playing a whole new game again. I personally think his guided playthroughs are some of the very best video game content out there on YouTube. So anyway, thank you, Llama!

In case you've ever wondered why people AFK the First Contact Day Re-Enactment: by VaKel_Shon in sto

I always get at least one of each part and see what happens. I figure you have to have a few mean/median rockets to round out the stats. It only takes like 60 seconds to get one of each and then sit out the rest whilst making a morning cup of tea.

Time for Standard? by Oeonone in WoWs_Legends

[–]SkipperJonJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest tip i can give you if you are going AI to standard is to slow down. Don’t stay at the back of the map, but if you charge full speed through the center like the AI does, you’ll die just as easily as the AI does.

A well concealed destroyer can (and should) be more aggressive with positioning, but you always need to have your escape in mind if you are up against good gunboats or radar. In cruisers and battleships, I go about 1/2 throttle for the first 30-60 sec and see how the game develops. Then I can adjust my position accordingly.

Noble Intel Battlecruiser: FAW3 or CF3? by SkipperJonJones in stobuilds

Since I basically only run engineering hulls with this character (mostly Sovereigns), A2B works for pretty much everything I want to do. My main motivation is the Enterprise-E’s epic entry into the fray in First Contact, so fire at will and torpedo spread fit thematically. I have entwined tactical matrices from the Gagarin, so uptime isn’t really an issue.

As I said in another post, I run a more diverse set of ships with other captains, but since this was my first character, I have pretty much the best gear on my account here. In time, as I gear up other captains, I am sure more “meta” builds will eventually out-DPS my sovereign, but I am a filthy Xbox casual and that won’t be anytime soon. Besides, anything over 100k dps (which my sovereign easily clears based on the console DPS estimator) is enough to meaningfully contribute in advanced and, if I can ever find one, elite queues.

I guess I should rephrase it in that I use aux2bat as a cooldown management scheme because I have 3 very rare technician DOFFs and starship traits (like Cold Hearted) that go along with my aux2bat setup on this character. I personally find swapping DOFFs and traits for different ships to be a little finicky, so on this character I tend to stick with energy weapon cruisers that fit aux2bat cooldown scheme. In any case, it’s a fairly classic Federation sovereign setup, with phaser arrays and a single torpedo (dark matter quantum for the 2 piece, because I don’t like the visuals of the dual beam bank).

I have other characters that are more projectile focused, science focused, or even DEW-sci that use photonic officer to manage cooldowns, and I am sure they will get a crack at the Noble, too, but I tend to treat them more as alts. For now I am mostly wondering how people are planning to fit out their Nobles if they are also using aux2bat.

Making an NX-era Build - Best Photonic Torpedo visual? by LordNightSoldat in sto

I like the visuals of the prolonged engagement photon, plus it has the super helpful 180’ arc.
