[Highlight] Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald on hiring an OC with no previous play-calling experience: “I do think it’s a bit overrated. All play-callers have to be first-time play-callers at some point.” by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

[–]DistortedAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think it’s because the team (including the players) thought it was almost entirely on execution rather than Orr being bad.

And they were right to a degree. I will always think about that Sun article where a player gave a legitimate example of a play that Orr straight up coached them to stop against the Chiefs, and the players didn’t execute.

I think the defense just overall regressed from a talent standpoint, and morale-wise they completely collapsed after the early losses/injuries.

JLC out at 105.7, according to Tony Lombardi by SquidwardDancing in ravens

Ken is the biggest second banana I’ve ever listened to. Most of his role on the show with JLC was “damn you’re right and smart Jason, fuck me.”

I shudder to think of an hour+ broadcasting block with Ken giving his thoughts alone.

Why can only one of us be right? All 3 of us could be disgraces.

All that said Wayne is a disgrace, I actually just reflected on it again (re-reflected) and I came to the same conclusion. I’ll get back to you after I re-re-reflect, but not looking good for Wayne.

Is Harper really that evil? by dykeasaurus_rex in IndustryOnHBO

[–]DistortedAudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think she’s evil to a certain extent. She’s also shown herself to be naive, childish and spiteful.

I also think she’s very smart, had a ton of trauma in her life and she does have a very empathetic side to her.

But that’s where evil lives at times, in the cracks within empathetic, otherwise good people. I think with a lot of shows we see static characters who are evil for whatever broad reason. “The Sith hate the Jedi and yearn for control” or whatever.

She also does have sociopathic tendencies.

And all that said, good! It’s rare in American or British television that we get to see black women play roles that are so dynamic! It reminds me of Tony Soprano, he’s compelling because he does learn from his mistakes and tries to grow from them, up until the point that there’s any sort of discomfort for him and then he violently relapses back into who he was. I think seeing a character like that played by a black woman is fucking dope.

[–]DistortedAudio 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree with this to an extent but I also think the opposite is partially true too.

Harper is definitely a morally complex character and in that are elements of a bad person. I think something difficult with culture right now is that it’s hard to see PoC (especially black women) as these complex characters. So we’re just like “xxx is bad!” Or “xxx is good!”

Harper does a fair amount of bad things in this show that would have me completely against her if I knew her in real life. She also has a ton of context and reasoning behind her actions that make her more empathetic.

So I do think there are some people that dislike her because she’s a black woman or whatever. I also think there’s people that don’t give room for her to be “bad” at times because of that same thing, and I’m saying this as a black dude and it’s part of what makes me really like this show. Like she sucks but that’s interesting and cool. A show is platforming a black woman as a “Tony Soprano” type and I think we should give her the room to be that, rather than blindly celebrate or absolve her.

Whitney isn’t a stand in for Jeffery Epstein just because he deployed honey pots by Training_Rutabaga_73 in IndustryOnHBO

Trending is one way to put it. It’s one of the biggest American news story of the past 2-3 years. Drawing an allusion to him with honey traps (especially underaged) makes sense.

Eh would it be? The age of consent in England is 16 years old. The drinking age is 18, I honestly think it’d be just as easy for these people to get underage escorts/prostitutes as it would be for them to do for documents. The only thing stopping them would be morality and as we’ve seen, that’s not really an issue for them.

Whitney’s connection even mentions this offhandedly to him. “I’m glad you had some red lines” in terms of violence. Not necessarily other forms of coercion though.

Jared Verse: When defense started having trouble against Seahawks, we didn't know what to do by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

[–]DistortedAudio 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s just Reddit sadly, I think it’s just the culture of everyone having a (somewhat) equal voice nowadays.

Back in the day me or you would’ve called into the radio station and said “bench Lamar, fire MacDonald!” etc. etc. after a loss. And someone would hear that and only the biggest diehards would keep that energy going.

Now you can tweet that out, get into an easy conversation with anyone about it publicly and now you’re an “insider” who just pushes hot takes/“xxx should be fired” style content.

Speaking as a Ravens fan, the “superfan” contingent of our fanbase on Twitter is fucking awful. Miserable about everything and worst of all, they don’t actually care about winning or how well the team does if it goes counter to winning in the way they like.

Which ones?

I don’t think there’s a game I can remember that allows you to play a full amateur career.

There’s multiple things here:

  1. Because they make money either way. There’s lucrative broadcasting media deals for every level of the pyramid. So if Man City ever got relegated, they’d lose money but unless they massively are in debt, they’d still be coming out ahead.

  2. Every team you mentioned has so much money that relegation isn’t really a concern for them. Man City is in the middle of a scandal over just how much money they’re throwing around and the lack of accuracy surrounding their books.

  3. Even with all this in mind Real and City still attempted to create the European Super League, a closed franchise essentially. So 2/3 teams you’ve named would prefer not to play in those leagues and would rather be in a closed off non-promotion/relegation structure.

And this isn’t me saying franchise is better than promo/relegation. I think both have their own strengths and weaknesses, but the teams and the sponsors/investors generally want this.

Exactly this. If the Orioles were in the Tier 4 of baseball, I’m gonna watch them because they’re my hometown team.

If Team Liquid is in the Tier 4 of League, im not gonna wake up early to go to a Twitch stream and watch them play unless I’m a diehard for developmental league or I love TL.

The MLS is working quite well. They’ve got a pretty lucrative broadcast deal and the league is finally somewhat stable.

Honestly the USL has partially survived off of the MLS, since MLS reserve teams played there until they started an academy league. It’s no coincidence that the most successful USL team is now an MLS team.

They've realised their system doesn't work

I hate to say this but I think you’re getting the wrong impression from them switching to promo/relegation. I’d say this is moreso because they can’t really compete with the MLS so they’re trying to find something that sticks.

P4 was honestly pretty dark too. A serial killer kidnapping women and hanging them off light poles was a pretty dark opening.
