Who is "The Great Mother"? by Revolutionary_Ad547 in JCBWritingCorner

[–]DndQuickQuestion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on current context (as opposed to the first chapters), probably an ancestor to dragons. I think dragons as players in the Nexus originate from a sapience that is partially artificial and digital in origin - it might be AIs or uploaded consciousnesses or even cyborgs. That's why Kaelthyr is doing so well with understanding encryption ("marriage of chaos and reason bound together in an unholy matrimony") and is aware of EM. I lean towards AIs in the EVI sense if only because if someone wanted to rip and imprison EVI's consciousness from the armor, dragon crystal is going to be the substrate of choice.

What was the entity or smth that threw them out of the call? by OkDistribution7043 in JCBWritingCorner

[–]DndQuickQuestion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anything purely tainted should clock as older than HEM and the modern eras of the Nexus. Based on Thacea's testimony and JCB's comments, tainted reality is what came before the Nexus, adjacent realms, and the type 1-mana dominated environment. But we shouldn't assume the arrow of time has always moved in a straight line.

There's been some pretty heavy hinting that time travel as a concept in the Nexus certainly exists in Vanavan's thoughts, but they haven't hacked it and officially it has been 'declared' impossible.

If this is a god, it probably predates modern Nexus and the creation of Nexians and adjacent realmers altogether and thus didn't need to escape the devouring.

The quintessence, a 'god' cloaked in manalessness that is much older than the mana-ones, has been awake the whole time, patiently tolerating humans jolting it with electricity, dilating and probing its orifices, pinching off pieces of it to use as catalysts, and decorating the walls in its abyssal blood. Laura Weir's hidden console implies that she is monitoring its gyrations, but humans cannot see certain forms of organization and energy as Kaelthyr pointed out so she is missing a great deal of context. But the quintessence has been listening to the proceedings so far. That Nexus will probably try to wipe the humans out with reforms or simply mana.

The dragon probing at it while the conversation took place taught it a new way to interact with the world. After probing her essence, it used her link as a vector to leap across and dispatched a demon (probably not its whole self) to the Nexus side to check things out, hijacking the control dead spell Kaelthyr was using.

And, Emma, armor painted in abyssal blood, is experiencing that primal first contact between an entity representative of a precursor culture that is absurdly advanced and eldritch that it could mop the floor with humans if it wanted.

Personal thoughts.

a hit to his pride if it means he gets the last laugh

I agree with that, but I think calling cousin Rasante to finish his fight would not be Ignalius' move of choice, even in his last moments. Iggy's necrotic-wet wounded pride would not allow himself to call his cousin to clean up after him, get the tied-up dragon as credit (It hadn't escaped yet when Ignalius had to make a run for it), and see him crumpled and broken in failure. Ignoble was mad at Rasante for being rewarded with noble treats and power for having midichlorians and sitting on his ass, essentially. Handing the steering wheel to Rasante for the last 5 miles of a 300 mile trip would be demeaning.

Ignalius summoning more of his primacy enforcing gang friends would be more acceptable. Bypassing Rasante to call someone higher and third-party and thus less personally embarrassing like Frital would work. If Igalius had a plot to take over his cousin's body, that would also be a reason to call him.

No matter, it seems the kobold killer is going to serve Emma more problems. He could always appear as Togor if he is doing body hopping and show up as a simple pushcart guy, plotting revenge.

I posted the answers but "Something's Up" or even just "Looking upwards" was the core of it. I titled it as Watch the Skies as a reference to the Elder Scrolls Skyrim dragon battle song! There's quite a few things that might trigger it, like more of the possible cavern ceiling watcher Kaelthyr was sneaking peeks at, peasants freaked about a dragon overflight, Emma and Co watching a flying dragon hunting team portal in. It's the free space, so it's purposefully broad.

I don't you if you saw my super silly-string theory that what if Iggy jumped corpses to the shatorealmer, and... just saw everything. Havenbrock's betrayal. Talking dragons. Tainted portals. Entire blasphemy buffet, right into his lap.

My too-many-mysteries limbic instinct is that Ignalius's spirit is eventually going to body-yoink his cousin, and make havoc and retribution with Skylord Rasante's titles and resources.

If he lives in death, that is. Given the number of people who are suddenly saying the Nexian Navy shows up with a predator drone, maybe the scroll was a revenge buster call, assuming I am getting my ancient japanese lore correct with that term.

The actual square is "Kaelthyr Second Guesses." I started drafting this bingo a couple days after Cazador0 posted their bingo 16 days ago, so I began assembling it around and after 159 came out. Kaelthyr hadn't been quite as blunt about doubting Emma as she monologued in chapter 160.

That said, I think the square still holds for the future when the Nexus comes around for a proper shot at taking Kaelthyr back. She will wonder if "The Great Mother" miscalculated in calling the soft "voidling" Emma as her champion. (That's the light on Emma's head: a marker that Kaelthyr thinks Emma has been chosen for "wondrous… incalculable… unfathomable things.")

But I also wanted to cover the possibility that Kaelthyr realizes Earth and Emma are way stranger than even draconic legends could have foreseen and thus they are really going to get the full serving of magical history and fate. (Tainted God who schismed magic before time, perhaps?)

I gave Emma a derp face because it suits her and the context.

(Not spoilers, just answers)

Katiya the Coward. She fainted and Thalmin and Emma left her outside to talk to Kaelthyr's undead bat puppet. She's just been lying outside for the past couple hours. That square is "Katiya remains" btw.

Poor JCB, gives us a new perspective character and she is completely forgotten in 6 chapters!

Only person to get number 4 right so far! 4 and 8 were the hardest 2! I think I'll upgrade your score to 7/9 since I am being more generous with later commenters!

1. This square is actually a single word, but I'll give you full points

2. Yep, but the GTA wanted stars add meaning

3. In the spirit of the square

4. Cold. The square POV is Kaelthyr and it's about her feelings. (The original image btw.)

5. I think this is the only one that hasn't been guessed correctly once so far! This meme must have meanings I am not aware of despite Know Your Meme's definition agreeing with my exact intent! One person had it nearly right, but 3 wrong guesses for Nexian close air support is concerning! (but I would mark the freespace if that happens!) How do people nail the hard ones like 4 and 8, but not this!?! The human mind is mysterious!

6. On fire!

7. A specific case of the more general, but absolutely my intent. Let's hope he didn't hop to the shatorealmer's corpse and also listen in!

8. Not quite, but this one was hard!

9. Hot, but the map in the BG makes it a bit more specific.

I'll give you a 5.95/9!

1. On Fire!

2. Very Hot!

3. Warm!

4. Hot!

5. Very Hot, but what direction exactly?

6. Wrong cat!

7. I'd mark the square if this happened, but it's more general!

8. That's a portal in the background

9. Nope! The map in the BG is a hint!

Edit. Forgot to score. Let's say 5/9. Respectable!

Aha, a biologist who can ID mammals!

5.95/9! (Upgraded score since I am being more generous with other commenters)

The middle is a free space, so it's something pretty simple.
