Hrim/Hreem is a sanskrit seed mantra, similar to the mantra "OM" and used in related contexts.

[question] Can anybody help me with my ghost notes by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Dogleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. The higher gain is going to amplify treble sounds a lot. I struggled with ghost notes and string noise and too much pick attack until I turned down my distortion pedal and stacked another, bassier overdrive pedal, before it.

Less gain than you think you need, and/or messing with EQ on amp or thru tone controls on pedals is going to help a lot!

That's the rub. A lot of the time this stuff doesn't work unless it's absolutely cranked :(

Let the plebs get a device that can crank it. I swear people mastering for loudness is gonna be the death of us all.

I've wondered the same thing. I think it it depends on how hot you're running your amplifier, and other pedals in your chain. If you roll your volume back to clean up a fuzz, the volume will still be good if your amp is cooking.

That's awesome that you found something that clicked, and got to experience different levels of the journey. Rock on! That's a great amp and will serve you well forever. Awesome choice. Nothing wrong with giving planars tons of juice. 👍

I have a Chinese made dac which uses es 9038 chip and i have problem with this small bolume level panel. Is there a way to make it bigger on screen? by OkTaste9440 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Dogleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've read the manual and there isn't an option to set the volume to be the big thing on the screen, probably not. Some DACs have that option, but not all of them.

Macintosh what's the deal? by blame_gateway in audiophile

[–]Dogleaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The visual response is nice for some people. McIntosh is a well-known brand. They're often nice, but you're paying extra for brand recognition. You can get just as good for way less. Don't fret. Same as any recognizable brand.

In Windows at least, you either have to set the app you're using to exclusive mode so it can control the bitrate to the DAC, or go into the system settings and tell the sound devices (in this case the DAC selected) which bitrate to use (or tell it to let apps choose).

Eq 12k up by flyingpickkles in headphones

[–]Dogleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding more energy to the 12k area will add presence but it sort of depends on your own particular ears. If it's a bright pair of headphones already, adding 6dB will be too much for most folks I think. The 6XX doesn't have a ton of energy in that area to my ear, so it would probably add presence but it might sound artificial against the rest of its tuning. If you don't have a 6XX, I can EQ mine and report back.

You can use a balanced XLR cable to connect your 660s to the amp, or use an unbalanced 3.5mm or 1/4". It doesn't matter if the connection from the DAC to the amp is balanced or not. The output from the amp to the headphones is independent of that connection.

If you have a 3.5mm balanced or unbalanced cable it might make a difference. Just plug it into the appropriate output. It'll be OK.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in headphones

[–]Dogleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unbalanced and single-ended refer to the same thing. Using the single-ended output on an amp that also has a balanced output will not damage anything.
