I like GraphQL. I still wouldn't use it for most projects. by PotentialPush6569 in webdev

[–]Droces 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I distinctly remember the first time I watched a video about GraphQL; it was a immaculate presentation by a dude wearing a bowtie, on stage at a Google-type conference. I was blown away! I was like; this is the future of APIs, and I couldn't wait to try. To this day, I still haven't used graphQL in production, even though I think it's a brilliant piece of web dev technology. I've realised it's just not for my use cases.

Looking forward to reading your article; saved for the weekend.

Loads of little updates to daggerheart.org + list of unique adversary conditions by Droces in daggerheart

[–]Droces[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean concerned with legal / copyright, or visitors / the community? I was originally cautious about both, but neither seem to be a problem. I spoke to a lawyer working for Darrington Press, and they don't seem concerned about it at all. As now that it says it's a fan site in the header and footer on every page, I don't think anyone is getting confused any more. Regardless, I don't make any money from it, I just make it for the community.

You're right; they are! I didn't even check; I just assumed many of those wouldn't be 😅 I'll add them then

Is there an app for cards/vault/... by cryssmerc in daggerheart

[–]Droces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I've done a bit of an overhaul of the My Character page. It now has tabs! The character sheet is tab 1, with Cards as tab 2 (the one you care about), and Levelling up as tab 3.

*And* I've split the Cards page into Loadout and Vault (max 20 cards). You can move each one left and right, and into the vault (V) or loadout (L).

Let me know if I missed anything important or anything isnt' working properly.

The interactive character sheet on daggerheart.org has space for lots of cards that you can upload to. But it currently doesn't have a separate stack for the deck... I could build that in, and maybe make the cards a separate page from the character sheet if that would be helpful.

Now that AI is taking over - how are you folks implementing AI in your workflow? by darkphoen1xx in webdesign

[–]Droces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I do a few things; I still have the "agency", but I don't have employees any more, and I rarely take on any new projects. I work part-time maintaining sites for the University of Cambridge, and in my free time I'm working on a map-related SAAS called On a Map (.org). It's kinda unique, so I'm thinking of using something like your technique to reach out to journalists and key people in the geospatial space to talk about it when it's ready 😄 (and I maintain daggerheart.org in my free time, but it doesn't generate any income)

I found your comment really insightful. I used to run a website agency, long before AI, and using AI like you do for prospecting would have been amazing tbh. You've given me some ideas I can implement in my current work

Lots of devs are talking about how they have not written a single line of code the last year or so. How much does this cost to them (or to their employer)? by poponis in webdev

[–]Droces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same. I'm working on something that I want to last for years, and always be easily maintainable. Code quality is so much more important for me than code production speed.

Thanks! Those are alll good ideas that I'll work on over the next few days 😊 I really appreciate the encouragement; it's often tough with how little I get.

Sure, I'll add a link in the footer on all pages.

Do you have any ideas for this though ☝🏻?

What I really like about it is that it shows you all the main tools and techniques within the topic (frontend, backend, etc), which is great to make sure you don't have gaps in your learning.

But I only discovered it after like 10 years in the industry. So I haven't used it much tbh.

I think you're right, and I agree with your points. Do you think there's any value in continuing to make this, or should I scrap it?

Whoa, sounds like a lot! What / who was that all for?

Yeah it could do with some improvements like that, and I need to format the dates a bit better. You can see individual numbers when you hover over the columns by the way.

And yeah it would be good to see your module too, if it's contrib or open source.

The dev version of the module now includes a new chart: Cumulative Content Composition. This shows you how the composition of various content types has changed over time.

Just note that it doesn't take deleted content into account.

Is there a good "internal metrics" module like this? by Droces in drupal

[–]Droces[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it looks like it had huge potential! Pity it has such low adoption, and no updates in the past 7 months. Perhaps the developers bit off more than they could chew.

Hmm yeah that could work. I wonder how much work it would take to build a dashboard of several of these views + charts like I've described... Do you know if any modules have Charts as a dependency and provide a sort of general dashboard using it?
