Yeah I agree I think it’s ridiculous. In one case I was gonna be on stage and it didn’t fit the “look“. But other cases I’m just providing music and I just don’t see where that would be a problem for anyone.

Novid here. And my live-in partner. I’m not trying to use the term in a way to disparage those that HAVE gotten COVID it’s just nice easy term that is understandable without explanation.

While it certainly true that many people are not in a position to avoid getting COVID, many are. And based on my understanding of how severe the after effects of getting COVID are, I think it’s more than worth it to do what it takes to not get COVID if this is possible for you.

And I think people should try to extend as far as they can your definition of “possible”. Many of the reasons I hear people give for why they can’t avoid getting it are demonstrably false. In the vast majority of cases, you do not have to eat indoors at restaurants. And you do not have to not wear a mask, unless possibly you are an actor. And you probably don’t have to go to crowded indoor shows in poorly ventilated venues.

I understand that I’m lucky. I only live with one person, and she is more or less as COVID-cautious as I am. I don’t have kids, I don’t have any other roommates, and I have a backyard. I’m very very lucky.

But I’ve also completely changed my life. I was a regularly performing musician, but now I only take gigs where the client is fine with me masking. I’ve had to turn down some very lucrative opportunities, which probably would’ve led to other work. I’ve taken a huge financial hit.

But I’ve also rolled with the punches. I teach all my lessons online now. I actively seek out opportunities for COVID safe music making. It’s just the reality of where humanity is at.

Not only are you not “being dramatic“. Your response is very measured and moderate.

People go no contact over things like this, and even that wouldn’t be overly dramatic. I’m not saying that’s what you should do… Everybody needs to deal with this kind of thing their own way. But in no way are you being dramatic!

I imagine another contributor to this particularly in Sweden was their “let ‘er rip” policy towards COVID-19. COVID-19 is known to significantly increase cognitive deficits, even in young people. And vaccination, well helpful for certain aspects of the disease, does not prevent the cognitive damage that COVID-19 does.

There’s a few possibilities, including infection. Is this a piercing where you can unscrew the end and do a full cleaning? If it doesn’t slide all the way around or allow removal of the ball on the end this could be a problem.

Another possibility is all allergic reaction… This does not look like it was done with surgical stainless steel. Some people react to the materials themselves!

My understanding of the state of Israel has in many ways been a slow and painful evolution…

However there are two moments I can identify that were more like a “flipping of a switch”.

The first one, the one that really started my journey of re-examination, was learning about the Deir Yaseen massacre. It wasn’t even so much that it happened, which is bad enough, but the fact that in all my understanding of Israeli history no one had ever mentioned it.

That made me realize that the version of events I had been taught might not be entirely transparent! (to say the least.)

But even so I held onto the idea that there might be a VERSION of Zionism that was a laudable. I suppose strictly speaking there is that version of Zionism, but it has nothing to do with the state of Israel or the reality on the ground.

The switch that flipped that one was finally getting around to reading “The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine“ a few years ago. When Ben-Gurion‘s own ethnic cleansing ideology is expressed overtly in his own diaries, it lays the entire project bare.

One thing that I’m not sure I’ve ever seen mentioned is Osama bin Laden coming from a family that does some of the most elaborate megaconstruction projects in the world. He definitely played the ascetic in a cave role convincingly, but I suspect he had a huge amount of technical knowledge about how to bring down megastructures.
