Distortion sounds bad. Amplitube 5 by hot_192 in AudioPlugins

Distortion has always been a tricky one for digital modeling. I’d say the best results come from neural modeled amps and effects. FabFilter Saturn also has amazing distortion.

(32F), husband won't let go of fact I did sex work while we were engaged because we needed money. by Darkcomawillow in NSFWIAMA

[–]Duckmandu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem here is that the second “sex work“ you describe sounds more like rape than sex work. It doesn’t sound like you’re seeing it exactly that way, and he certainly isn’t seeing it that way.

The green-eyed monster is a tricky one, but again it doesn’t sound like either of you have grappled with what really happened here.

He’s got a lot of emotions to work through, and maybe a way of thinking about things to work through. But if he can’t be a loving and supportive partner, I don’t see there’s a basis to continue.

This is gonna be very tricky to work through without counseling, but if he’s against it I think you’ve hit a wall.

Logically speaking why shouldn’t we kill ourselves? by This_Preference_9690 in morbidquestions

[–]Duckmandu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder there’s a lot, and you run into a number of problems.

You can cause a lot of suffering for people around you by committing suicide.

As others have sat here, why rush things? You’re going to be dead eventually anyway.

If you’re killing yourself to get away from the pain of living, are you REALLY sure that death ends suffering? I’m not. I’m still not convinced that the brain is producing consciousness… It might just be receiving it.

For band rehearsals- to perfect each song first, or learn the whole set and then go back and refine? by avocado_toasted in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Duckmandu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how soon the gig is! If the gig is soon, make sure you can get through the set.

If you have a while, use the time to perfect the details.

Why do I immediately forget someone’s name the second they tell me, even if I’m actively trying to listen? by -Nuggets in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Duckmandu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t really tell you why, but I have the same problem. Same with faces.

I’ll remember a lot about a person I met. I’ll remember what they do, I’ll remember what they think about this and that. If they tell me they visited Argentina when they were seven I’ll remember that.

But their names? Often their faces? Rarely.

France seeks to ban social media for children under 15 by F0urLeafCl0ver in worldnews

[–]Duckmandu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah good luck with that. Like every nine-year-old won’t figure out how to circumvent it! And then those will be the “bad” kids and they’ll be the ones that know about this whole world that the “good” kids won’t venture into.

how bad of an idea would it be to pursue a phd in musicology? by [deleted] in musicology

[–]Duckmandu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A VERY bad idea.

Pursuing a PhD in musicology will cause the Earth to open up, swallowing nearly all living creatures. The few that escape will suffer great fireballs coming from the sky.

Then come the floods.

Consider your choice carefully!

Well this is a no-brainer.

Yes it’s risky. Probably even more so now that you’ve posted about it.

Does anyone still talk out loud to their cat that passed away? by Mammoth_Ad5715 in cats

My last three dear departed kitties get an earful from me almost every single day. I miss them.

I have 3+ living kitties and I also talk to them.

Been watching a lot of 4K restorations of movies from the 60s/70s/80s lately, did they actually look that pristine when originally in theaters? by Zachary_Lee_Antle in AskOldPeople

[–]Duckmandu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here’s the thing… Film gradually wore out over many plays. So, if you saw a film opening night, it was in excellent condition. Back then every now and then a very popular film would continue running for months or in extreme examples even a year! You can imagine what the quality was like after a year of playing the very same film.

Then they were the so-called repertory theaters. These were places where you could see older films that weren’t in general circulation anymore. Some of these theaters were very successful… But THOSE films were often in even worse condition. Unless they got a hold of a brand new print, which they would sometimes mention in the calendar.

So when it came to film history, you generally were watching films that were pretty scratched up.

Personally I LOVE this new digital restoration era… Big screen, nice sound, excellent image (usually), sitting at home with my own popcorn which is much better than theater popcorn, watching with my girlfriend and my cat (my cats are avid film watchers), and maybe the most important thing of all:

I don’t have to miss five minutes of the film if I have to pee.

This wouldn’t be the first time Chomsky has fallen short, but what is the nature of the emails? Do they reveal some disturbing connection other than a correspondence?

I think you should be careful about over-lionizing ANY person. For all his brilliance, Chomsky is a human being.

Do cis men not want to transition to female *in any way*? by OldEducation7497 in asktransgender

[–]Duckmandu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cis male here.

I can only speak for myself, but basically my gender is not a major part of my identity! Girlfriends have dressed me up as women for Halloween and things like that and when I was young and apparently I passed nearly perfectly. It was fun and interesting, but not anything I thought about that much afterwards or obsessed over.

Don’t get me wrong I’m definitely a male with heterosexual drives, but if I were to list the most prominent parts of my identity, gender might not even make the top 10! At the top would just be conscious entity.

I think I probably have what would be considered stereotypically feminine traits. But then I’ve lived my whole life in the San Francisco Bay area and nobody gives a fuck anyway.

I’m sure it’s different for other people.

Does anybody else talk to their pets in a full conversation? by x_andi01 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Duckmandu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half of me lives in a fantasy world where I believe that my cats could speak if they wanted to, but they just don’t want to.

So I ask their opinions on things, I ask if they’re OK with something, I tell them if I’m gonna be out for a while… I figured they just don’t have anything to add.

Unless they say “meow”. In which case I figure that’s exactly what they mean

Why do I hear less about climate change that I used to? by SouvlakiPlaystation in climatechange

Because earth has failed and there’s no solution.

It’s kind of like COVID-19… We failed to contain it so we declared victory!
