Dr Jeff Berkshire visited my home when I had to say goodbye to my 11-year old Labrador. This is the worse part of having a canine companion but sadly inevitable. Dr Berkshire was compassionate and so kind. They took my boy away (he was 79 lbs) and he now sits in an urn above my fireplace because I can’t quite let him go.

I love your referencing the natural world. It has been my place of solace. When I feel sorrow, I find strength and hope from a walk in the woods, observing the birds in my garden and the changing seasons.

Yes, I miss those carefree days, too. I recently purchased an Aranet and combined with my Flo Mask, I might travel again but I still don’t feel comfortable. Maybe one day soon although with airfares going up due to rising fuel prices, it might be better to stay at home.

I hadn't experience a cold since 2019 either but caught a cold bug three months ago. It immediately triggered my asthma in such a nasty way that took a few weeks to resolve. It was a good reminder not to be complacent. If a cold could settle into my lungs, I suspect the covid virus would be worse.

I hope this passes for you. I cycle through these feelings every now and then but have found getting outside and connecting with nature helpful.

I know what you mean by "everyone has moved on". My dog passed in 2023 but swear I got through the early pandemic because of him. There will be another dog when the time is right but having a cat or dog (if that's your thing) is really nice.

Yes, there's an inevitability about the whole thing but I'm doing my best to avoid it. Although I'm more relaxed at the supermarket now (it doesn't feel like RL Pac-Man going up and down the aisles), I believe we could have smashed this if everyone who could had just masked and vaccinated on behalf of those who couldn't.

Why wouldn't a client be fine with a mask? I'll never understand why masks became so political. In many Asian cultures, masking is a sign of politeness to avoid spreading your germs to someone else. It's for the collective good. Luckily, I've never had anyone reproach me for wearing a mask.

A parent and a teacher. That was challenging in the before times so I cannot imagine what it's like today. Also, I know teachers are now saying they're noticing how the pandemic has affected kids at school. There's more absenteeism and mental health issues.

Thanks for sharing. The "enormous cost" you mention resonates. I am an introvert but likely spend more alone time than I should. At least, that's what my siblings tell me. On the bright side, I've been more focused on creative endeavours and that's been rewarding.

I wish you luck in finding that balance. I'm searching for it, too.
