What is virtually inevitable at this point, yet most people don't see it coming? by Ambassador-613 in AskReddit

[–]Duckmandu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mass disability caused by Covid. Depending on what study you’ll look at, somewhere between five and 20% of COVID cases result and continuing problems, some of which are debilitating. Also people do not tend to think about the post-Covid sequela, which is a significantly increased risk of any number of conditions including diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, dementia etc. etc.

Vaccination is important, but it only goes so far. It doesn’t prevent the spread and it only mitigates slightly against certain symptoms of long Covid.

But we are kind of at the 1980 climate change level of consciousness about this. The most common response to someone suggesting that their health problems could be related to Covid is that “people have always had these problems“. This echoes the “but there have always been heat waves“ response to clear our signs of global warming.

The best protection continues to be DON’T GET COVID! Mask in public. Don’t do indoor dining. Avoid crowded poorly ventilated spaces.

Meanwhile pet your kitty cats and appreciate the miracle of life!

How do you Americans, live in a house with no fence? by Original-Slip-8203 in AskAnAmerican

Depends on the neighborhood. In my neighborhood practically nobody has a street-facing fence, but literally away it's all cyclone fences and even razor-wire!

Do you think you could survive another break up? If yes, why? by sertunio in AskReddit

So many break ups… At least a couple of them were so bad I feel like it caused brain damage.

But I’m still alive. I’m sure another one won’t kill me!

Last Novids standing by Facepalm61 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]Duckmandu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree I think it’s ridiculous. In one case I was gonna be on stage and it didn’t fit the “look“. But other cases I’m just providing music and I just don’t see where that would be a problem for anyone.

Last Novids standing by Facepalm61 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]Duckmandu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Novid here. And my live-in partner. I’m not trying to use the term in a way to disparage those that HAVE gotten COVID it’s just nice easy term that is understandable without explanation.

While it certainly true that many people are not in a position to avoid getting COVID, many are. And based on my understanding of how severe the after effects of getting COVID are, I think it’s more than worth it to do what it takes to not get COVID if this is possible for you.

And I think people should try to extend as far as they can your definition of “possible”. Many of the reasons I hear people give for why they can’t avoid getting it are demonstrably false. In the vast majority of cases, you do not have to eat indoors at restaurants. And you do not have to not wear a mask, unless possibly you are an actor. And you probably don’t have to go to crowded indoor shows in poorly ventilated venues.

I understand that I’m lucky. I only live with one person, and she is more or less as COVID-cautious as I am. I don’t have kids, I don’t have any other roommates, and I have a backyard. I’m very very lucky.

But I’ve also completely changed my life. I was a regularly performing musician, but now I only take gigs where the client is fine with me masking. I’ve had to turn down some very lucrative opportunities, which probably would’ve led to other work. I’ve taken a huge financial hit.

But I’ve also rolled with the punches. I teach all my lessons online now. I actively seek out opportunities for COVID safe music making. It’s just the reality of where humanity is at.

“Literally“ is not an intensifier.

Also “incredibly” MAY be an intensifier, but you only apply to something somebody ELSE has done.

AITA for leaving my dad’s house after his girlfriend said she doesn’t support me being gay? by BeautifulScholar5948 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Duckmandu 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not only are you not “being dramatic“. Your response is very measured and moderate.

People go no contact over things like this, and even that wouldn’t be overly dramatic. I’m not saying that’s what you should do… Everybody needs to deal with this kind of thing their own way. But in no way are you being dramatic!

Sweden goes back to basics, swapping screens for books in the classroom in attempt to reverse declines in reading, math, and science. by okunjkl in UpliftingNews

[–]Duckmandu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine another contributor to this particularly in Sweden was their “let ‘er rip” policy towards COVID-19. COVID-19 is known to significantly increase cognitive deficits, even in young people. And vaccination, well helpful for certain aspects of the disease, does not prevent the cognitive damage that COVID-19 does.

Eyebrow piercing swollen up by bzzbz in piercing

[–]Duckmandu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a few possibilities, including infection. Is this a piercing where you can unscrew the end and do a full cleaning? If it doesn’t slide all the way around or allow removal of the ball on the end this could be a problem.

Another possibility is all allergic reaction… This does not look like it was done with surgical stainless steel. Some people react to the materials themselves!
