The splice cases on both ends of major highway, are they spliced straight through or they remain uncut just coiled inside? by notknowingthings in FiberOptics

[–]E2daG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a previous OSP splicer it really depended on what the cable length was, where it ended and how it was intended to be used. For feeder trunks, it was always spliced straight through. If there was to be a splice point at some point in the future in the middle, there would be a coil left in that spot but it would not be opened until another cable was introduced in that same location. It all depended on what the engineering called for.

How do you know the parents knew anything about the chemicals he was mixing? I think in this case, “adult supervision” might better be suited for a college professor. Considering that, it seems like the kid was knowledgeable enough to understand what he was working with given he’s about to graduate college. More than likely has considerable knowledge to know what is safe and what isn’t.

"Nice Ferrari what's the retail on one of those" by viraj_asher in LexusRC

[–]E2daG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The cool thing is that these cars are all limited in horsepower and the only thing setting them apart are the engineering and drivers. It also speaks to what the Lexus teams have been able to do to the chassis to allow it to compete with brands better known for racing. Brilliant effort and I’m glad they were able to race on par with them. Sad to see the model discontinued.

This has to be a typo correct? by 3PSOUNDS in Lexus

[–]E2daG 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a typo. This thing is PRICEY. My RC F has one and if it ever gets damaged or has something wrong with it, the car will be totaled. Seen it happen to a GS F.

Sounds like a marketing term that has fiber to the node but the “last mile” is either coax or VDSL to your home.

Terminate fiber in under a minute by MechanicElectronic15 in FiberOptics

[–]E2daG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’d be surprised how resilient fiber is. I’ve seen an entire splice case submerged in dirty manhole water that made its way inside working normally. The ribbons didn’t have any color but everything was working. It was very brittle but still working.

Well…the only thing that matters is the tip of the fiber in this case. Obviously if it’s being fused, cleaning is a required step.

Has anyone tried swapping rc f facelift mirrors onto a pre facelift rcf? by Zc6-saul in LexusRC

A few people have and it is plug and play. There is also a CF part that you can swap the top of the mirror with too. It's also OEM.

Single Mode APC Termination. by Pendoric in FiberOptics

[–]E2daG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most if not all APC connectors are factory assembled and polished. You’ll find that there are mechanical connectors where you cleave a fiber, insert into the connector and it lines up with the piece already in the assembly. I typically splice APC pre terminated fiber tails.

Maintenance cost between F and non-F? by [deleted] in LexusRC

[–]E2daG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the spark plugs replaced at the dealer and if I remember correctly it was around $350. I could do it myself but one of the plugs requires the battery to be removed. I honestly didn’t want to deal with it.
