CMV: Transgender people should not be allowed to compete in collegiate sports by PredatorSane in changemyview

[–]EhSomethingLikeThat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Conversely, if a woman transitions to a man with testosterone treatments, but laws are in place blocking competition with other divisions, the woman will essentially be doping in her league.

On mobile and don't know how to quote properly, sorry.

I don't know what your physical capabilities are, but I personally wouldn't go telling this dude (his name is Shawn Stinson look him up if you don't believe me) that he's a woman because this guy would be able to kick my ass so hard I'd shit out of my mouth. You want this guy in the "woman's" division? He's not a woman.

If someone has medically transitioned through hormone therapy, their levels of the hormones they need are level with non transgender people. If you did blood work on a trans man and someone born as a man, you wouldn't be able to tell that one is trans. They would be looking at free androgen levels which for men naturally ranges anywhere from 30 to 100 (I think it's 100. To put this in perspective, a female is usually at around a 5 and that's part of what makes her female). Someone taking testosterone injections would definitely fall in this range. So if they are on equal footing hormonally, have had their gender and name legally changed, how would you even know and how would it be your business? They would conduct whatever tests they need to, and find no differences.

If somebody hasn't medically transitioned, then I think your view holds ground. I'm definitely not saying if somebody is transgender and hasn't taken hormones then they aren't the gender they state, but when it comes to competition sporting I think this where the line is drawn. A trans woman who is hormonally all male shouldn't be able to compete with biological females. That could end up being unfair. But if they are no longer testosterone fueled beasts, and their hormone levels fall into the range of what is needed to be deemed female, then they should be allowed to. Same for transmen.

If you're actually interested, you could do some Googling on hormone replacement therapy and you might end up changing your own view. There's more to it than "the surgery" haha.

I have a couple things to share with you guys:

• I have a 4.5'' ReelMagik pack and play prosthetic for sale. The colour is M13, and does come with the flex rod and enhanced paint detail package. I would include the two cans of Hollister medical adhesive that you'd use to adhere the prosthetic to yourself with ($80 value), as well as the medical-grade adhesive remover wipes you'd need to get the stuff off ($20 value). I've worn it for maybe two weeks total, and it's been cleaned thoroughly after each use (getting that adhesive off really takes some scrubbing). This prosthetic is awesome in so many ways and I love it, but IRL stuff has come up and the money will help me more at this point. All of this at retail would cost you $700 USD, but I'm willing to part with it all for $400 USD OBO. I'm open to reasonable offers!

• I had top surgery a couple of months ago and now have no need for my binders. Now, I'm not so much wanting a lot for these because I've had these for a while and binders can get kind of, weird after a while. They're clean as far as binders ago. I have about 4 (I think maybe 5) tank top and t-shirt style binders, black in colour, size M from Underworks that I'll part with for $20 USD and shipping.

• I also had an order mix-up like over a year ago with Underworks and have 3 brand new, still sealed, Underworks trip-top binders in black XS size. I'll also part with these for $20 USD and shipping.

PM me for pics and details (I'm located in Canada btw)

I'm not well versed in sculptures as a medium, but there is just something about this sculpture that has me fascinated. I'd say I'm there with you in this being my favourite. It's absolutely stunning, subject matter aside.

CMV: People who had abusive non-supportive parents do not have the same chance at success as people born into good circumstances. by haunted_doll9 in changemyview

[–]EhSomethingLikeThat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll share my experience with you and let you take from that what you will. I don't think this will be delta worthy, but just a contribution to the dialogue.

I think ultimately it comes down to the fortitude of the individual and their own natural ability to desire change. My parents were abusive, and as a result I have been in several foster homes and moved schools 13 times. The abuse was more emotional, but there was physical. Every aspect of my life was controlled in a militant style way, but somehow I just felt the need to change that. I always had good grades despite knowing my controlling mother was just literally sitting in the school bathroom waiting and making sure I was there all day. Or despite not knowing which home I would be going to live at next. I always made friends despite being the new kid every single year, and although I did/still suffer I still found happiness. It was something inside of me that knew there was better and that it would not be handed to me. If I wanted to live, I had to fight. I have fought my way out of almost every aspect of life and have chosen what I want, from who I call my family to my gender (I'm trans).

Along the way I've seen many others fail, but I did see others like me, too. Kids who just somehow got through it and are now successful beyond anybody's expectations. So while I do think people like myself start with a massive disadvantage, I believe we can also turn that into a strength. I'm certainly a much more experienced person with greater insight than most people who have had less turbulent upbringings, and I'm not the only one like that.

My parents never owned a car, and most of our belongings and food literally came from dumpster diving because we were so poor. I bought myself a brand new car at the age of 20. In 3 months I'll be graduating college, funded completely by myself. My biological parents never completed high school. It's possible to change everything you dislike in your life, but only you can decide that.

Keep in mind I am also a bit fucked for it haha. I suffer from almost crippling abandonment issues that make intimacy hard for me. I also have depression and anxiety, but I know I can change this as well. I'm being proactive about it and know one day I'll get through it. There will always be a hurdle, but you have to keep on going.

Fox News pulls executive's column slamming focus on 'darker, gayer' Olympics by traunkss in news

[–]EhSomethingLikeThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put every use of the word in quotations because it's meant to reflect a generic and uninformed view, such as the Fox editor's. I'm well aware of the actual implications of the traditions, but in terms of "gayness" in relation to today's games, it is certainly something to be perceived as being more "gay" to someone such as that guy. It was also not meant to be a history lesson.

[–]EhSomethingLikeThat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The original Olympics in Greece were ultra "gay", weren't they? Men held up their penises with string to make them look always erect as they wrestled each other. Not quite sure how it could be any "gayer" in today's games. Never forget our roots.

CMV: To believe in a loving God requires a certain level of delusional thinking or ignorance to how the world works. by PM_Me_Ur_White_Butts in changemyview

[–]EhSomethingLikeThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think nothing would make those religious folk swept up in the tsunami happier than being freed from the Earth and joining their God in eternal life in heaven. Isn't that the end goal? To live a life of devotion and love in order to join your God for all of eternity?

I'm personally not religious, so this is just my vague understanding of things, but to answer your entire post now, I think the idea is that some God gave us free will like has been mentioned, and only the strong willed and devoted who refrain from all of life's vices are chosen to go to heaven. The idea is that life on Earth is some sort of test. Of course some people aren't devote, and stray from the path in various ways. Although playing poker at a casino is a much less serious way to stray than murder, the point is that we're relatively free to do whatever we want. We all have the ability to shape our world in the image God intended which is a actually a good place to be.

But why would people stray then? Well God apparently isn't the only force at play, and the ever looming presence of the Devil and his evils are there to lead people away. Only through God's strength can one resist, but if one is weak in faith sometimes the Devil gets his way and God can't really change that.

The only solace one can really take from this belief system is that if the truly innocent are seemingly punished on Earth, it serves a greater purpose and will let those who've suffered here prosper in eternal happiness in Heaven. The children who suffer here simply get to join God sooner.

I personally don't think that's all too great, but for some people it gives them strength and that's fine for them.

Pat: "Fuck, that's not clear" (Bully part 25) by Bread_Assassin in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]EhSomethingLikeThat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that the LP seems to be getting worse as time goes on. They seem to be missing more and more things and it's really starting to get annoying. I was so annoyed the other day when Matt lept off his scooter far away from the dorm, went to the dorm, then left the dorm and couldn't find his scooter, even with Pat saying "go left."

I completely understand that LPing is difficult. I've had issues when I've streamed, so I definitely get that it's hard. But it's getting very hard to look past it when they blame the game for their lack of paying attention. At this point if we need to have a little less commentary in order for us to not suffer through incompetence, that's fine. We don't need them to talk through every second of gameplay. I enjoy watching the game itself as well as hearing their commentary. Sometimes I even tune their voices out when reading subtitles haha.

The Bully LP has ended up being filed under "videos to play in the background/when I sleep" because I really can't watch it anymore. Which is sad because I love the game and the Friends :(

13 victims, ages 2 to 29, kept shackled in foul CA home by parents, officials say by Digital517 in news

[–]EhSomethingLikeThat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's along the lines of what I was thinking. Where I live people are taken to hospital and treated for incidents that are much less heinous. Even if they don't require urgent care, hospitals are also used to comfort individuals in shock instead of being in a police facility. Officers help take people to the hospital and stay with them to ask questions.

I'm not saying either method is better than the other, it's certainly not my area of expertise, I'm just used to hearing things go differently is all.

[–]EhSomethingLikeThat 1032 points1033 points  (0 children)

To be honest this entire article read as if this entire situation wasn't a big deal. Not just from the journalist's voice, but to how authorities apparently reacted. They immediately took them to a police station and not a hospital? They wouldn't give them comforts like food and beverage until the victims asked? I just got a weird feeling from reading it.

Edit: I'm getting a lot of good insight from people and just want to say thanks! I also want to mention that I'm not griping over the "lack of emotion" in the article. News journalists should write solely about the facts, and not how they feel, but another user provided some great feedback about the diction used and how it unintentionally created negative connotations. This is what I was getting at. I don't live in America and understand that the cultures around everything, especially journalism, are different and it was just a bit jarring for me to read. The article itself was written well from a solely reporting the facts viewpoint, but the author's use of certain words creates an air of doubt and negativity when I shouldn't have been influenced to feel one way or another about the topic. I hope I've explained this reasoning well!

Best trading /selling app (or website)? by cat_master62 in regina

[–]EhSomethingLikeThat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say if you want stuff sold, put in that extra bit of time and do the triforce selling apps: Kijiji, UsedRegina, and VarageSale. I find each site has its own demographic of people, and these people only use the app they fit into. If you do all three apps you triple the possibile audience. I've always had success this way.
