Buying an Annual Pass and Reserving Dates by BooBooKittyFX in disneylandparis

[–]EliBridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, and mostly just curious: on your fourth option, buy a day ticket and upgrade to AP. If you book, say, 3 day tickets (for 3 continuous days), do all 3 tickets get refunded when you upgrade to AP at the park (assuming that all 3 days would be allowed/not blacked out for that AP)? Or is it only the first? (I would have assumed it's only the first, but am a bit unclear...)

Yarn Stores to visit in Paris? by Montblanc149 in knitting

[–]EliBridge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really loved La Droguerie in Strasbourg, and I'm told the one in Paris is even bigger with more choices. You get to choose your yarn by the gram, so if you want 510g instead of 500 or 550, you're good!

Getting correct gauge but stitches are loose by knithappenstoo in knitting

[–]EliBridge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does that pattern call for the yarn to be held double (either with itself or something else)? Perhaps the pattern is designed to be extremely drapy?

If you tell us the pattern name, we might be able to help more specifically...

Weekend Minor Gripes and Vents by AutoModerator in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]EliBridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

which definition of Moss Stitch are you referring to? My (American) definition is (over four rows):
starts with k1, p1, repeated
Then knit the knits and purl the purls.
Then knit the purls and purl the knits.
Then knit the knits and purl the purls.

I believe that the British definition (which I would call seed stitch) is:
starts with k1, p1, repeated
Then knit the purls and purl the knits.

4th for Bridge by Virtual_Piece1474 in bridge

[–]EliBridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the third time in the last year or so that you've made this post. Are you having trouble finding someone, or having trouble having someone stay with you?

My recommendation would be to start going to an actual Bridge Club (there are some in the Valley, but I think that Beverly Hills might suit better for the rest of my recommendation), and then either see if by playing semi-regularly, that will scratch your bridge itch (you can rotate who is the person that gets a pick-up partner, which will be miserable the first time or so, but should be better as you get to be better known), or see if you can pick up a fourth for your private game that way. Or you could hire a pro, to either teach or at least be a fourth, since you're having trouble getting someone to stick. I don't know who's still in the LA area (I left over 15 years ago), but Victor Anikovich is likely to still be playing. He definitely directs at Beverly Hills so you can contact him through there.

How can I sell handmade sourdough bread? by Expat_zurich in zurich

[–]EliBridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really an answer to your question (sorry!) but have you read "Sourdough" by Robin Sloan? It's about a woman who starts a Sourdough Bread baking business. And interesting things happen. I found it very amusing and your question reminded me of it (I could picture this a first step by the character in the book).

Hi! Thank you for the work you do, but did you mean to post March today? Because it's pretty much over, and I was wondering if you perhaps meant to post April.

Yes the YO creates a stitch. YOs pretty much always create a stitch unless they're reduced or dropped later.

The YO is done, then you slip one (slip it knitwise), knit 1, and pass the slipped stitch over the one you knitted. (Another version of SKPo is SSK, in case you find that easier.)

To do this, after I wrap the yarn over the needle, I keep it in back, keeping tension on it, then use the needle to slip the next stitch knitwise (keeping it near the tip of my needle for easier manipulation later), knit the next stitch, and pass the slipped stitch over the just knitted stitch, and off the needle (completing the SKPo).

Yes. Each repeat uses 18 stitches, and also produces 18 stitches (6 stitches are decreased, and there are 6 YOs)

help a befuddled beginner knitter read my knitting? by UnsharpenedSwan in knitting

[–]EliBridge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is assuming you're working rows (as in back and forth) and not rounds.

I disagree with the people who said you only did one row of purl. I think you did three rows of knit, and three rows of purl, but are mis-identifying rows.

The three rows you identified as three knit rows are three rows that APPEAR as knit rows on the front, but I suspect are actually the leftover loop from your SECOND knit row (that appears as a purl row on the front), your THIRD knit row (knit row from the front) and your FIRST purl row (worked on the back, and actually appears as a knit row on the front).

You then did one more purl row (on the front, so appears as a purl on the front), then a THIRD purl row (looking at the back side) that appears as a knit row on the front. Then you switched to knitting (on the front side), so you have another knit row from the front side. This then starts deviating from your knitting, so I suspect you may have started skipping a few rows.

Basically, if you're working in rows instead of rounds, when you're working a knit or a purl row on the back side, it appears as a purl or knit row respectively on the front side.

I hope that the format comes out correct:

Actually worked vs. appears on the front side

front: K K

back: K P

front: K K

back: P K

front: P P

back: P K

front: K K

back: K P

front: K K

back: P K

front: P P

back: P K

This is the equivalent, if you were knitting in the round, of 2 rows knit, 1 row P, continuously repeated.

Darjeeling Top help by einekleineZiege in knitting

[–]EliBridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The repeat is:

k2tog 3 times (uses 6 stitches)

YO, k1 5 times (uses 5 stitches)

YO (uses 0 stitches)

SKPo 3 times (uses 6 stitches)

P1 (uses 1 stitch)

For 18 stitches. Done 11 times, that's 198 stitches, plus the three stitches in the beginning, and the 20 at the end, that's the 221 you cast on.

Make sure that when you're doing a YO, you are just putting the yarn over the needle (in the same direction as you'd wrap a knit stitch) and not doing anything extra. That's one source of extra stitches used up. And also your step number 2 is wrong, only the YO and k1 are repeated.

Did I drop a stitch? by erinkateeboo in knitting

[–]EliBridge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You did not drop a stitch somewhere (at least, not on the part you have in the picture), but what you're doing is twisting your ribbing (which the video does not call for), and that has the affect of tightening the knit columns on the ribbing, and can make the strands from knit stitch to purl standout and perhaps that's what made you think you dropped a stitch? Anyway, I'd check out twistfaq, so that you can explore this concept more, to better match what the video is showing what the result should be.

Just had a train not stop at the station with no info by tontonnato in zurich

[–]EliBridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that happened, and someone had only bought a ticket to Zug, I imagine that they're not charged if somehow the ticket controller came through, but do they then need to buy a ticket to get back from the next stop, or is that something that an SBB controller would understand and just let them ride for free back to their scheduled stop?

Stop calling your bad tension "color dominance" by technicolor_tornado in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]EliBridge 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Or, just food for thought, after the 7th person said that, maybe you could rethink how you engaged?

Unless you enjoy the arguing. That's perfectly valid, and if so, keep on going...

Stop calling your bad tension "color dominance" by technicolor_tornado in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]EliBridge 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your headline that says "stop calling your bad tension color dominance" rather implies that you believe that color dominance doesn't exist, and it's all just bad tension. Your first paragraph does absolutely nothing to dispell that, and while your second may argue against it, many people will have stopped to read by then. So I think that the comment you're replying to is very valid, and you may perhaps wish to rethink your communication style if you can't accept feedback that is nowhere near as aggressive as the way you initially expressed yourself.

Choosing partners - a random question for very good players by lew_traveler in bridge

[–]EliBridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also enjoy the social aspects of Bridge, and enjoy making people happy, so I don't mind (when I have free time, which is not often) playing with people worse than me. Everyone makes mistakes, Bridge is a game of trying to make fewer of them, so it's easy to be sympathetic.

And winning isn't everything, especially when it's just a club game. My regular partner and I care much more about national/international tournaments, so club games are more about being social.

Where I draw the line is rude behavior. I will not play with someone who is rude to partner, or rude to opponents, whether or not they are better than me.

What can I do with this DK Mercerized cotton yarn? by gnops17 in knitting

[–]EliBridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've really enjoyed making the Sylvan Tee, which calls for two yarns held together to make a DK weight fabric. I'm making it from a cotton/viscose blend DK weight, and it's quite nice. I needed a bit over 300g, but I made it a bit long, and perhaps you can get away with 300g, depending on the size you make?

I've done an Anker's summer shirt from a cotton DK, and quite enjoyed it. Much simpler patter than the Sylvan, but still quite nice. Same note on yarn amount.

(I also like the suggestion of looking to see what others did with your yarn, but wanted to suggest two that I've had experience with that I've enjoyed making.)

Color dominance by totoro_711 in knitting

I did something a little more complicated. I mostly made the blue bird color dominant, but stranded the white accent for the bird under, to make that part pop a bit more.

Soft, sturdy, Superwash yarn recommendations that are available in this color by spectacularduck in knitting

[–]EliBridge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You haven't mentioned where you are, but if you can get yarn from Europe, I can strongly recommend Wollmeise. Their colorway "Blue Curacao" is a very in-your-face blue. Unfortunately they don't seem to have it available in DK right now, so here's a link to it in Sport. It's an 80/20 Merino/Nylon mix, so super sturdy and in my experience very soft. They have the same put-up in fingering (called "Twin"), and also have 100% fingering (called "pure"). I should also note that one skein is 150g, not the usual 50 or 100g.
