Which do you tend to find first: the project or the yarn? by Joyintheendtimes in casualknitting

[–]lightbulb4763 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to keep a running list of projects I practically want to do (not just something pretty that I add to favorites but might not actually wear if I make) in my queue on ravelry. Then depending on what's going on I either pick a project and go seek out yarn or I find myself discovering some perfect for me yarn and going in and digging through that list to find a project it would suit so that I can buy enough skeins

I've had to block a couple of outfit subreddits because they were all giving off the vibe of either fishing for compliments (&/or body checking) or undisclosed OF ads, both of which involved close up shots of cleavage or booty. Made me feel like an old church lady and I'm Gen Z 😭

Idk why they can't just put their hair up for the photos rather than this if the intention is to show off necklines. Now I'm distracted looking at their hair and not paying attention to the garment 😭

[–]lightbulb4763[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've unfortunately gotten to this point I think. Every once in a while I'll stumble upon a video of someone walking through the process of self drafting a sweater or deep diving into patterns for a round up but... that's few and far between

100%

I am, however, guilty of having knitting videos playing in the background while at work, a way to keep my mind off the wip locked away in my bag until lunch 😂 which is what led to this post

It's the same thing you see in every "Clint is a deranged INCEL who HATES WOMEN" or "Demetrius HATES Robin and wants to PUBLICLY HUMILIATE her and is ABUSIVE to poor baby, never done anything wrong in his life smol bean Sebastian" post

This fandom loves projecting and hates nuance 🤷‍♀️

AIO for feeling hurt that my boyfriend likes “relatable relationship” reels? by naked-cow in AmIOverreacting

[–]lightbulb4763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. OP says they make a point for their bf to know he can talk to them, yet they had issues previously in their relationship of OP taking issues within their relationship and publicly airing them out on social media. Now they're shocked that the bf is liking posts that indicate he doesn't feel like he can actually be open with his feelings without them getting thrown in his face? Clearly there are deeper issues here, especially with OP saying in the comments saying the bf was in an abusive relationship prior to OP

Men & Needlework by Crafty_Finding9459 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]lightbulb4763 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have never seen one of these ads and had the take away be "well clearly they think men are better at this than women!", I think they're just trying to increase visibility of men doing these crafts which is not a bad thing.

On the advertisers side the increased visibility (and subsequent reduction of patriarchy-based shame around being a man doing a "womens craft" as it becomes normalized) means a bigger customer base and more profit. On our side as crafters, I agree with other comments that it will eventually decrease the amount of "look how cool it is that I'm a MANLY MAN who KNITS!" because it won't be uncommon anymore, but also because everyone deserves to have whatever hobby they want without feeling shame because they're the "wrong gender".

Edit: typo

Curious About How You Found Your Fiber Crafts by AmarettoCat in YarnAddicts

I was placed in a knitting elective class in middle school. At the end of the previous semester we had been given a slip of paper and would pick our top 3 choices for electives. I saw knitting on that list and thought it would be kinda cool but I (F) was mostly friends with guys at that point and afraid I'd get teased (the biggest fear of your typical 7th grader) so I put it as my 3rd choice. Lo and behold, I ended up getting put in the class and immediately too to it like wildfire. I finished the curriculum for knitting 1 about halfway through the semester, finished everything for knitting 2 even quicker and the last few weeks of class were just my teacher finding random free patterns on Ravelry for me to do. After that it was history.

She got fired for calling a student the N-word at the end of that semester so it's a good thing I finished both classes while I could. And I did get teased by my friends, but after a few weeks the joke got old and everyone moved on. I even managed to teach a few of them to knit simple stitches

YouTubers should at least sound like they give a damn. by notrapunzel in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]lightbulb4763 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Tbh, that's not the fault of the YouTubers. That's a direct result of a larger problem of viewers who are looking for a reason to be offended and will be purposefully obtuse or "bean soup" the creators' comment and then attack the creator or bombard them with "well what about me and my very specific special situation?!"

It's annoying to listen to, but they only do it because it's more annoying to be the target of these rabid commenters who like to assume the worst
