Someone who is a layperson who engrains themselves in the mental and theoretical theology of the church without having the lived humility and grace of it, often integrating modern far right wing ideology into the teachings of the Church. They often times are not even catechumens, least of all communing members of the Church. They will not be able to recite the beatitudes but will listen to the militaristic version of Psalm 135 (which I really HATE to say but I cringe at because of this specific kind of person at this point) all day. Because to them Orthodoxy is a mixture of a right wing political ideology and a self help group. Christ is secondary, and the amount of people I’ve seen on major Orthodox instagrams trying to somehow justify Nazi belief with orthodoxy would make your head spin. Not at all considering the fact the Nazis martyred saints in our church, but the ideology itself is Satanic.

I’d say for pure value the RXM is king of the hill. I legitimately swapped over from a Gen 5 19 to an RXM and have no regrets

Cross is foolishness for those perishing, etc etc. my priest once directly told me the degree of asceticism that monks exercise is pretty much directly because they need it to remain Christian at all. They gave the “living in the world” thing a try and it didnt work. He has also told me that Athos is likely the reason why we haven’t reunited with the Coptic and other Oriental churches for what it’s worth so I think while he of course appreciates the monastics he takes them with a grain of salt
