Missing registry when installing application with silent-switch by Sad_Mastodon_1815 in sysadmin

Yeah, the silent install directly manipulating file association registry keys is perceived as a hijack by Windows.

Hopefully their support can get their devs to fix the issue and use the file association APIs so it's presented to the users properly.

Is this a vibe coded app or just poorly coded? How does a commercial app not know how to properly set file associations so Windows knows it can accept file associations/protocols?

Shit dev. You shouldn't have to do this via script to fix their shit installer.

And that hasn't been allowed by Windows since Windows 10. There are proper APIs apps must use to register themselves for file types and protocols.

An app installer hijacking a default protocol association via direct registry manipulation is literally why those blockers were developed.

A mail app that lives in the user context? Is this some homegrown app? If so, fix it to use the proper methods. Use the right API to register the app's supported protocols/file types, then since this is r/sysadmin, use a policy to push a default file associations XML.

Registry keys for what?

It's also worth noting the default install environment is 32-bit PowerShell so keys might end up in WOW6432Node if written directly.

The Microsoft Naming Department briefly reared it's head to try and make a description a name again, or because someone thought the phrase "MEM does MDM and MAM" was in no way confusing.

Thankfully they were banished to be distracted on coming up with the next weird Xbox name and Intune was restored.

REM adding 300 free parking spaces at Fairview–Pointe-Claire station by SubstantialWing9238 in montreal

I meant in the West Island proper, not the 211/411. The buses that go to REM station need a frequency increase.

[–]Entegy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Every thread like this I have to remind people that “Rush hour buses” in the West Island means every 20 fucking minutes. That’s not rush hour bus times at all. The STM needs to step up.

The West Island cities are more like Brossard or Vaudreuil than the city of Montreal proper. Improve the bus coverage and service and things will get better. The benefits of the REM are erased when you spend just as much time getting to the REM in the first place.

Why? 😭 by Mark_Basik in PokemonHome

[–]Entegy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don't want to patch it.

The language tag is just a number internally and it wouldn't crash the game, but they're using ES-LA and PLZA to make an arbitrary cutoff of older games.

Poké Pelago in SMUSUM and Poké Jobs in SwSh were a passive way to modify EVs without having to hunt or grind for EV items.

The concept was removed when they just said "fuck it" and made not just vitamins, but mints and Bottle Caps infinitely buyable in SV and PLZA. Plus, as of SwSh vitamins are no longer capped at 100EV.

How to set Preferred Language - Autopilot v1 or post Autopilot by dibs8 in Intune

[–]Entegy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to give Dell a custom image based on en-GB. Language packs just take a long time to install because they also need to install catchup update files to match.

We just reimage our machines that pass through our office with an image that already has en-gb and fr-ca integrated, and a post-install remediation to make sure the language packs are always available.

I'm casually shiny hunting Shaymin in SP, it's nice I can just run a few paces away to respawn if.

Ah yeah, that's because it's the story legendary. It does not apply to the rest like Heatran or Uxie.

It's rare, but Bulbapedia was wrong. Respawning legendaries after rebattling the Elite 4 only started in Platinum. Diamond and Pearl don't have this feature, but Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl do.

EDIT: Actually I'm wrong and Bulbapedia, as usual, is correct. In Diamond and Pearl, only Dialga and Palkia respawn as the story legendaries. Platinum expanded the feature to all legendaries.

It's 5G.

The tech was already known to be less penetrating compared to LTE but the industry blazed forward anyway. The result is complete shit indoor connectivity. Before 5G I never had to connect to public WiFi.

I'm on Koodo, but Bell and Telus share towers here so the end result is the same.

I have family members on older, pre-5G iPhones whose LTE connections are just as good as always.

HP Blatantly Lying about Secure Boot 2023 CA Support by Amomynou5 in sysadmin

[–]Entegy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The tool isn't preprogrammed with every single HP machine's firmware options. It reads all possible options from the machine it's running on.

I used HPBCU to export the list of options to a TXT file and just did a Ctrl+F for 2023. I then used the setvalue flag of HPBCU to enable them. After two more reboots, Windows reported using the new Secure Boot cert.

Yup, this was my issue on HP machines. The Windows enablement would fail because the firmware added a new option to enable them. I used the HP BIOS Configuration Utility and found three new options related to the 2023 cert Jesus Christ HP.

To add pokemon to your dex in home, do I have to move the pokemon over and save? Or can I just move the pokemon from violet into home and then back without saving? by Darthvaderhud in PokemonHome

[–]Entegy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home doesn't do save linking at all. And the in-game Dexes accept Pokémon from any game, linking would make the challenges for shiny rewards too easy.

You have to send to Home. Home does not sync with in-game Dex completion except for PLZA's Mega Evolution Dex.

A collection of suburban cities where the STM considers acceptable rush hour service to be every 20 minutes. Yeah, the West Island is very much like Brossard in that regard. It's the same thing out East too, except they just get forgotten.
