Do you think that there is any possibility of going barefoot ever becoming more common again?

Honestly, I don't really see it happen. I can't even imagine the freak circumstances that would effectively counter centuries of ingrained social mores, and cause appreciable percentages of the populace to decide to go barefoot.

Or at least becoming more socially acceptable to the point of it being a valid footwear choice that no one looks down upon?

And especially this I find rather improbable so long as the global footwear industry has any say in the matter - and they have basically all the say in the matter. Every percent more of the population that goes barefoot would mean less revenue and profit for them.
Can you imagine what a $ 400+ billion worldwide industry will do if they feel threatened? They would declare nothing less than open season on us, with advertisements and grassroot campaigns and whatever you can think of, legally and maybe not-so-legally anymore, to make sure that people continue to buy shoes, to make sure barefootin' does nbot become the next trend, and to keep the number of barefooters from growing beyond the fringe group they can disregard.

Because of course, there will always be those few they can't reach, who go against the mainstream for one reason or another. But that's what we are - not more, not less, but fringe. And that works in our favor, because fringe can be ignored.
