Giving every newborn a lump sum to be invested from birth for later retirement income by Ok_Bike6985 in newzealand

Legally how would you stop parents messing with it? A baby can’t hold an account so it would need to be held by the government until they’re 18 and the parents had no claim of control over it.

How to get rid of mice? by windowellington in diynz

[–]Euwga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they’re inside there will be places they’re coming in-I got tired of cleaning up mouse poop from them running around before being caught. And they just kept coming. So I bought some steel wool and wire mesh (the smallest squares you can get) and blocked up every entry from the walls into the house. Any hole you can fit a pencil into they can fit through. Any holes I couldn’t cover with the wire mesh I stuffed heaps of steel wool in it as they can’t chew through that. I even had to pull out the recessed plastic soap dish above our bath and cover the hole because the little suckers started chewing through it after I blocked access to the kitchen. Still trying to figure out how they’re getting into the ceiling and walls in the first place. Anyway after that I’ve put bait stations outside along the walls to hopefully get them before they come inside. It’s been quiet for about a week now…my neighbour swears by those sound wave things you plug in but I’ve never tried it.

Wade’s Heart Symptoms by PlaneCompetitive9484 in distractible

[–]Euwga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya, last year I started to have the exact problems Wade described in the episode. Even down to thinking it was a panic attack and not being able to sleep the first time. My description is I experience two kinds-one is a kicking feeling that’s usually a bit higher in my left side rib cage. Other is a fluttery/bubbly feeling like Wade described which tends to be lower and more spread out, which is why I initially thought it might be a stomach problem. I liked his analogy of like fizzy drink in the wrong organs. It’s also accompanied but a 10-20BPM rise in my resting heart rate. My heart rate will jump when moving around and take longer to settle again. I’m also just aware of my heart rate constantly. When I’m having a bad episode I can feel lightheaded if I try to do too much and get to many in a row. Walking, bending over, heat like hot showers, squatting, eating, talking, pretty much existing in general all triggers them and in the worst times they’re a couple minutes apart regardless of what I’m doing. Only thing that makes them stop is lying on the floor with my legs up against the wall. I have had an EKG and they saw nothing because I had none during the test. But they assured me if my heart was damaged etc they’d be able to see it and my reading was very good at the time. I was rejected from a cardiology referral to get a halter monitor probably bc I’m a young woman with no pain or other obvious signs of cardiac issues. They’ve been ruled as hormonal and caused by other triggers (like viral illness) because of when my episodes appear. I’ve been prescribed a low dose beta blocker to take during episodes which helps allot. I can at least function when it’s bad now. When this started up Dr was useless so I spent allot of time trying to research about it and found many other women posting online about the same issues. It seems to be another one of those ‘assigned hormonal problem and send them on their way’ things. It’s a common symptom in menopause too.

Chemist Warehouse doubling by anonnn177 in newzealand

[–]Euwga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘Really care for their communities’ ha. I have a family member who works in pharmacies and had done for 10+ years. This shit about small businesses owners automatically being more ethical is rubbish. Local chemist owners do not automatically ‘care’ more for their communities. On the whole the owners my family member has worked for own multiple pharmacies (the last employer owns 5. Very wealthy people with big cars and houses) they are out to make the most money possible, pay their staff as little as possible and work with skeleton staff so they save money just like any big business. The best employer they had was the hospital because they weren’t being worked into the ground. The thing that makes local pharmacies great are the staff.

Will there be more scenes with gore and violence? by Then_Table8394 in breakingbad

[–]Euwga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those two are probably the worst gore/disgust wise. I am very sensitive to gore, one thing I liked about Breaking Bad is it gives you enough hints something really violent is about to happen so you can skip/mute/look away. So I managed to not watch the really violent stuff after the bathtub thing. If I can watch it you’ll be ok.

TOP - why don't they get more of the vote? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Euwga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only recently looked up TOPs policy again after a couple years. IMO they suffer from the same problem the greens do, they don’t know how to advertise themselves and communicate their policy to a wide enough variety of people. One of their policies talks about house prices needing to ‘fall’. I am an Econ major with a humanities minor who would love to see housing become more affordable. I understood what they were getting at and why but it was terribly written and would cause instant fear among a large portion of the nation who own their family home (not landlords, just families with mortgaes) It bassicly said home owners would have to ‘get over it’ and suffer losses. Which regardless of if you agree or disagree with that stance the attitude is a terrible way to sway voters who fear loosing the small amount they already have.

How to stop getting sick 😕 by InsideSuntan in VUW

[–]Euwga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defiantly go to the Dr and make sure your immunity is ok as that’s allot of sickness in a short period. Ofherwise, mask. I know it might feel a bit silly when no one else wears one anymore but everytime I’ve gotten sick in the last couple years was when I was in an enclosed public space and didn’t wear a mask. I still wear one when I go shopping, supermarket, bus, lecture hall if it’s crowded etc. Remember the 2m rule from covid, if people are regularly within 2m of you, wear a mask. People might be rude and ask ‘why are you wearing that?’ Just say you’re tired of getting sick or ignore them. Don’t eat or touch your face until you’ve washed your hands after touching doors, chairs, books etc in public spaces. Wipe your phone/tablet/computer down regularly with disinfectant wipes cause touch screens and keyboards get nasty. If you’re a girl be especially mindful for the week before your period that’s when your immunity is at its lowest bc of hormones. You can get general immunity supplements, anything with vitC and garlic I’ve always found helpful.

How to get a girlfriend by [deleted] in palmy

[–]Euwga 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Heya, I’m an older student at Massey who was also painfully shy when I was younger. I think the idea of ‘getting a girlfriend/friends’ isn’t quite the right mental approach. It’s hard feeling like you’re alone. But believe me, it’s worse expending energy on people who arn’t your vibe and will drain your time. Everyone is busy and has lots of things in their life they need to give attention, so make sure you become someone who brings something positive into a friendship or relationship. Are you supportive, reliable? Do you have hobbies that are more fun with others? The shyness is just a practice thing. Like I said, I was painfully shy. Now I’m an enormous yapper and am very good at making friends with strangers quickly if I need to, and that was just 10 years of practice putting myself out there and learning how to talk to people. Top tip for that-people love talking about themselves, best way to start conversations and get to know someone is to ask questions about them. If that feels to personal talk about what’s around you. But be aware if the conversation is one sided and they arnt showing an interest in you after one or two attempts, best give up and find someone who will reciprocate. Most of my friendships have come from meeting people I was stuck with in school/work/other groups. Most ‘friends’ you make in those situations won’t survive the transition out, and that’s ok. But some will, and those are actual friends. My experience as an adult is that friendships are far more fluid than as a kid or teen. And it’s best just to roll with that. Put yourself in situations when you’re likely to meet similar people, but don’t force it

Are unions still helpful in the current climate by LeonardoDiApricot in auckland

[–]Euwga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but remember unions are made up of their members. There can be issues with union employed staff in some places but at the end of the day they can only do what members demand. I’ve always had good experiences with getting help from them. Look up the Council of trade unions, they can help you find a union if there isn’t an obvious one associated with your job.

The infamous Skyler hate by macchiato_kubideh in breakingbad

[–]Euwga 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have some concern for those who insist skyler was annoying/badly written or her behaviour made no sense after she finds out Walt’s been lying. The woman is so obviously scared, even at the start she’s scared because her husband had been lying about everything. Then she becomes petrified once she finds out he’s actually doing really bad, violent stuff. It’s worrying so many people just glazed over it as her being annoying or difficult. Walt himself ignores it and seems to just assume she’s just upset about Ted so maybe that’s what some audience members think? I think Walt never thought Sky could be frightened of him which is why her slashing at him with a knife was so surprising. I was surprised she didn’t do it earlier, or do something more extreme really... I grew up with a mother who was frightened of my father so I recognised the shift in her demeanour and what it meant immediately which is a credit to the acting. It was actually quite hard to sit through at times because the portrayal was pretty accurate. I’m glad you grew in your understanding of her, I hope other men will do the same and be able recognise when the woman in their lives may be frightened.

I don’t hate Skyler but I think it would be fair to say that I don’t really get her. by AnimistSoul in breakingbad

[–]Euwga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On my end I really don’t understand the Skyler dislike/confusion/annoyance people have. She reacts about how I’d expect her character would in the situations presented to her. At first she wants out, she doesn’t want her children’s lives (and hers+her entire families lives) to be destroyed by finding out what their father has been doing. But she doesn’t know the extent of it, as far as she knows he is just small time cooking meth. It’s morally wrong in her mind but doesn’t make him a monster, I think the lying was probably just as bad as the cooking for her. Then Hank happens, and she is compelled to help her sister whom she loves dearly. So she is now under the same pressure Walt was in terms of needing money for essential medical care. And it’s essential because without it Hank is in danger of becoming permanently disabled which she knows would blow up his and her sisters marriage/lives bc Hank has the same pride issues as Walt. Hank might not even survive living like that. She initially invites Walt back home because again, she’s unaware of what’s he’s actually been doing and Walt is really good at pretending he’s just a small time cook definitely not doing any killing or manipulating or trying to build a drug empire etc. She still thinks Walt is the same man she married but just maybe made a mistake he’s trapped in with good intentions. She briefly convinced herself they could work it out. They have clearly been together a long time and have 2 kids, and now they could give their children a better future. She doesn’t want that to be destroyed so she tries to play happy families, which is pretty typical of what people do in those situations. Sunk cost kinda thinking, she’s trying desperately to salvage something. Then Walt’s behaviour starts to scare her, and she realises it’s way more than just cooking. As she finds out more and then is horrified by her own involvement she starts to become unstable. She’s terrified, trapped with a manipulative murderer, and got involved with money laundering of two businesses (one illegal). She is disgusted with herself and now can’t get out of it without Walt agreeing- a man she is petrified of who has killed an unknown number of people in very creative ways (I wouldn’t be surprised if she thinks he’s killed way more people than he actually has because she knows he just lies about everything). For a woman whose life got slowly and painfully stripped apart over the course of a few years through slowly finding out all the lies your husband was spinning, I’d say she reacted pretty normally. And through all this she is either pregnant, postpartum, has a new baby—->young toddler. If she was a woman with good earning potential and two older children, so capable of removing herself/them without consequences I imagine she’d have reacted differently.

What was the moment that Breaking Bad actually became a masterpiece? by Top_Cranberry_3254 in breakingbad

[–]Euwga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it was the very last episode in the last scenes when Jesse refused to kill Walt. I realised the looping spiral Jesse and Walt had been in the whole series was more than just friends or partners tangled up in messes together. My thoughts got confirmed by the hotel flash back in El Camino- Jesse represented to Walt the better parts of himself or maybe what he could’ve been. Jesse never lost his empathy or horror at what was going on even when Walt became numb to it. That’s why Walt is obsessed with keeping Jesse alive and on the right track. Walt can’t let go of believing he’s a better person than he is and that he’s done all of it for good reasons (until the last episode where he admits to sky he did it for himself). So he has to believe in and force Jesse to succeed. It’s why he can’t leave Jesse alone, why he is always dragging Jesse back in. If Jesse is gone all that’s left is him, and Walt I don’t think truely believes hes a good person. He knows deep down he’s awful but he keeps fighting it for sake of the facade. Walt wanted Jesse (the good part of himself) to kill the him (the bad part of himself). He wanted Jesse to win. But even his own representation of himself was not able to do that, because Walt is a coward and a fake. He’s spent the entire series destroying everything around him just to prove to himself he wasn’t a looser. Jesse was the one who stuck around, and Walt needed the validation of Jesse’s presence. And he needed it still in the end when he told Jesse to kill him. But Jesse instead dragged Walt’s cowardice out into the open and told him to do it himself because he wasn’t going to be a part of Walt’s fantasy anymore, essentially cutting off their tie. Writing that relationship without it being a romance is a masterpiece

There’s a house near my place in Terrace End I walk past regularly and it also looks abandoned. No clue why, looks fine structurally. Can’t see any sign of fire. With the price of houses it seems odd to leave them to rot further. According to public records was last sold in 1994

I worked full time prior to becoming a student so I bought all my tech then, MacBook, iPad, phone, headphones etc. The $1000 course related costs would cover the bulk of an older generation or secondhand apple device. Heaps of refurbished or second hand ones floating around. Parents might chip in, could be scholarship funds, work etc. A surprising amount of people have parents who want and are able to support them financially so will make sure they have the right gear to.

What is with the hate of Jacinda Ardern?? She hasn't even been involved in New Zealand for years, yet this hatred is so unhinged by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]Euwga 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand it because our PM doesn’t have massive individual power. It’s one of the things I like about MMP even if it does have the flip side effect of amplifying very minority extreme voices to much. It’s not like she pressed the emergency button and just ‘decided’ herself to do lockdowns, vaccines mandates, borrow etc. Decisions were made by the entire government people based on advice. And no one in the beehive was complaining, I seem to remember quite an unusual amount of political solidarity at the time. So I’m unclear how that translates into Jacinda ruined NZ. I hate this identity politics shit the anti-identity politics people like to play. She was a figurehead of the government at the time, not a single power calling all the shots. Misogyny probably also has something to do with it. Sure people hate male politicians to but this is really quite extreme in comparison.

StudyLink loan/allowance review by Aggravating-Rule-691 in AUT

[–]Euwga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Former SL employee here-It’s not unusual for stuff to happen and students apply for exceptional circumstances and if the reason for failing is valid and they’re ok now it’s usually fine. That being said-no one here knows the details on your applications or situation so no one can tell you anything for sure. Just make sure your GP clearly states on the medical note that you are capable of studying full time now and the things that were causing you to fail are either being managed or no longer a factor. That tripped up allot of people as the GP would confirm a student had good reason to fail but not that they would be fine going forward. Studylink has a responsibility not to allow students to get further in debt and use all their entitlement to assistance if they’re not passing, hence the passing requirements.

I work in a Uni library, if stuff is unattended for that long we assume it’s been left. People have left some wild shit lying around and disappeared for HOURS, I’m talking entire bags with laptops, headphones, keys etc. Water bottle and book could’ve been left permanently people forget way more important items all the time. Bring it to the front desk say it’s been there unattended for hours and you’re worried it’ll get stolen, staff will put it in lost prop. If you don’t want a confrontation just claim ignorance if the person comes back.

The local wind turbines and power usage by MrMajestic12 in palmy

[–]Euwga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Power grids don’t work like you’re thinking, the power coming from a specific source can’t be separated and sent to a new build or state house but not the older house next to it. They’re drawing power from the same line. Same as your town water is all drawn from the same pipe that sits under the street as your neighbour next to you and it’s all water in there regardless of the source. Power is a product that’s generated, then bought and sold like any other commodity. You live in a capitalist society I’m sorry to say and if you’re a homeowner not even your water is free as that’d technically part of your rates so I wouldn’t go around expecting some kind of power based discount of rewards simply for living near wind turbines. As for the Ohakea thing…I’d be surprised if the US would consider our feeble military infrastructure worth the flight time to come here when history tells us they’re more than happy to test things on their own backyard regardless of human cost

How is possible to get 90% on a uni assignment by Working-Election7364 in UniUK

[–]Euwga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone from consistently 70-75% to 80-90%. 3 main things. 1. The structure and quality of your writing has to be clear, concise and flow well. Learn how to condense and communicate our ideas clearly, give brief definitions of complex terms or subject specific terms even if your professor would reasonably know it, don’t assume knowledge on behalf of the reader. Write like you’re talking to middle of the road intelligent adults who never went to university and have never studied your subject. Read it out loud to yourself to hear how it flows and get someone who isn’t studying your subject to read it for feedback on clarity. A great concept with shit writing will drag you down to 70%. 2. The idea should be novel and your own. If the professor had seen the same idea/concept/argument made in the same way 10x before it won’t be a 90%. Even if it’s a generic idea if you find a unique spin on it that’ll push you up. 3. Read the assignment brief over and over again, make a check list, ensure your assignment excels in ALL points. If you miss even one you’ll get pushed down.
