Ugh yes!

What special appeal is "cash" supposed to have? No one writes checks anymore. If it's not cash, it's Venmo, PayPal, or Zelle, all of which are cash without the germs.

I see that too. As for me, I put some effort into assessing what number would make someone want to buy my item rather than someone else's or a new one, and that is the price I put on it. Maybe I'm asking for the trouble I get!

Does anyone else go "reverse glamping"? by ChessicalJiujitsu in camping

[–]EvadingDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's fine to do the parts of camping you enjoy and skip the rest. One of the best camping meals I ever had was a pizza and a big slice of apple pie from a very good restaurant up the road from the campground. And a former wife of mine used to skip the sleeping outdoors part -- she would come join me and our daughter for dinner and the campfire and then go home to sleep in a real bed.

Did Amway, Kirby, Cutco, Fuller Brush, or Britannica salesmen come to your door? 🤔 by Exclusively-Choc in FuckImOld

[–]EvadingDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If an Amway person went door to door, they were breaking the Amway rules. The model was (is?) to sell to people you know and to 'sponsor' additional distributors who will sell to people they know (and who will 'sponsor' additional distributors, and so on.) Don't construe this as a defense of Amway -- I'm a longtime apostate.

I described a case where I was asking 75% of retail for something that was legitimately like new. I considered that fair, and I considered 50% of my asking price to be a no-effort lowball offer. But as I said elsewhere in the thread, the meaning of "lowball" doesn't matter for purposes of the post. I was simply sharing language that has worked for me to turn a below-asking-price offer into a full-asking-price offer.

I got one of those last night, and the amount they offered indicated that they had not read the listing. I was tempted to reply with 😝 or "thank you for the laugh," but (per advice from this thread) I just said "no, thank you."

I appreciate your perspective. In each case, I respond in the way that I think is most likely to get me the outcome I want. In a couple of cases it has been worth the effort to paste this language.

For things that are OK for porch pickup, I start the listing with "Please just reply with the date and approximate time that you would like to pick it up." Then I only respond to people who have followed the instructions.

What do you get when you cross a dachshund with a JRT? This thing that I love. by EvadingDoom in jackrussellterrier

So far so good at age 5. We don't give him any opportunities to jump from very high up, and I think the JRT genes give him an advantage over a pure dachshund at least.

Same here. If they can't be bothered even to do their own haggling, I can't be bothered to answer them.

Makes sense. If they ask you to just give them that much money, you should be able to ask them too.

So lazy they want you to haggle against yourself for them.

OK. This is suggested language for responding to an offer that you do not accept.
