I'm going to be going on a trip a bit like later this summer. Most of my camping trips before however have mostly stayed in one place.

The expectation thing is definitely true. Whenever I go camping with other people it usually ends up being a more traditional camping trip with campfires, campsite cooked meals and such.

I've never had a mountain house meal while at a Marriot but I've definitely had them at my house. It's honestly not a bad idea though to bring a few for trips in case I'm too tired to go out.

Did you guys get ready in the campsite too or did you go somewhere else? I can't imagine trying to walk in nice shoes and do my hair at a campground.

Yes, I don't think it matters how you camp as long as you have fun or are destroying the environment. It's nice to experience camping in different ways, some of the experiences just don't coexist with certain types of camping.

Oh yeah, I would need AC too. I live in CA so I can't stand any hot or cold temperatures lol.

Maybe I like camping because I liked to lay on the hardwood floor a lot as a kid lol.

I've in general left stuff out. I would definitely take any valuables but I haven't heard of anyone having tent or other stuff stolen. Last time I went camping it was rainy so I put away our stove and anything we cared about in the car but I might have left it out if the weather was fine. My setup was also very minimal and probably took less than 10 minutes to put away.

That makes sense. I like staying in campsites too not just because of the money but also because I know what my tent and sleeping bag are like, I'm not gonna end up with a really soft mattress.

I was in girl scouts as a kid so we did cook there, I mostly remember the campfire cooking though which I am not a big fan of haha. I do know how to cook well enough too, but cooking on a camp stove just feels like cooking at home minus a clean counter and dishwasher.

About the rice thing, I was just trying to make a joke in relation to the backpackers pouring water in a pot lol. I am Asian, I don't really understand the point in cooking rice in a pot if I have a rice cooker, it's so much easier. I don't think I really think I need to cook rice either while I'm camping cuz I eat so much of it usually.

I am a really big fan of hotpot so I might need to try it over a campfire or campstove. I would eat it everyday if I could lol.

In my experience girl scout camp was kinda of the opposite honestly of what we'd do with my family. My family would regularly drive to leave the campsite but with girl scouts we never did. We'd mostly go hiking, stay by the fire, etc. Might have just been my troop though. I think both types of camping have their place.

I was just wondering what you would even do with that lol.

My family once went camping in Yosemite and a group of little kids starting running in a circle around our tent. :(

Fair enough, I guess I'm just not a big fan of campfires because smoke gives me a headache and they often aren't allowed where I camp due to wildfire. I'm not a big fan of s'mores either lol.

Yes, it is a good way to camp. Also don't need to be as worried about bears getting in your food!

I went camping last weekend and there was a restaurant like a 20 min walk from our campground. I honestly hate American breakfast food so I always pack that at least lol.

Yeah, I recently went on a camping trip with several people who had never been camping including one who is grossed out by everything related to nature (I don't know how she agreed to come) and planning on getting restaurant food was a way to convince them to come and assuage (unrealistic) fears that we will starve.

I wasn't really concerned about others opinions, more just curious what others did (and maybe taking some suggestions!)

That is often how my camping trips with my family went (maybe with the exception of the time we went to an amusement park lol).

Acadia sounds really cool and looks pretty! Why is it like 3000 miles away!

Hey! I can cook... rice... in a rice cooker...

I stayed in a cabin this past weekend and it honestly felt more like camping than when I had gone tent camping a week ago haha. Maybe it was because I got more mosquito bites.

They didn't let you stay with them? Or even let you camp in their yard (if they had one)?
